Joanne Kim Hair and Makeup Artist

I found Joanne through someone who used her services. Her prices are very reasonable and it's nice that she's willing to travel to your location for the day of. Many months before the wedding, I went in for a hair/makeup trial and she worked with me to get the style/colors that I wanted. She was very patient. A month before the wedding, I changed my mind about the hairstyle and decided to put it all up. I was a little nervous about not getting the hair style that I wanted since it was different than what we did at the trial, but on the day of, I showed her a picture of the style and she perfected it! I was soooo happy!! I felt beautiful!

I found Joanne through Yelp. She got rave reviews and her prices are reasonable. Additionally, I preferred an Asian make-up artist as I am asian, so Joanne fit the bill! I did a hair and make-up trial with Joanne a few months before the wedding and was totally impressed. I had my engagement session with our photographers later that day and they said it was one of the most natural jobs they have seen... and let me tell you, I don't think I've ever looked that pretty in my life! I wanted to take Joanne home with me!

The make-up felt natural and not too heavy and she did a great job with the fake lashes. I felt like she listened to me and quickly understood my style and vision. She also does a great job with hair (although I only wanted something very simple) and can work quickly. Joanne also did make-up for my bridesmaids and they looked stunning and all loved her. I had a hair and makeup trial with her in Feb. '09 and I was ready to hire her for my wedding after the seeing my makeup (she hadn't even started on my hair yet)! She pays close attention to detail, enhancing your natural features. She's capable of giving you exactly what you want right there on the spot. I was also quite pleased with my up-do. The hair and makeup did not budge after 9 hours! Needless to say, she was hired.

Joanne was phenomenal during our wedding last month. She was already set up by the time we arrived. She did the hair and makeup for one of my bridesmaids (without ever meeting her or seeing a picture of her) and Joanne fully delivered. She was stunning! Being the bride (and after the trial), I knew I was in good hands, but I had no idea that my hair and makeup could look even BETTER than our trial! Joanne is very flexible and accomodating, even with my last minute requests. She has an incredibly calming and friendly presence as well, making her an ideal person to be back there in the bridal room with you.

You are in the best of hands with Joanne. She delivered nothing less than excellence. I would recommend Joanne to any bride!

Joanne was a delight to work with and her prices are reasonable. My entire wedding party was really pleased with her services, especially my sister who hasn't worn makeup since her wedding day. My niece was also very happy with her hair especially as the curls lasted all day.

As I wear very minimal makeup, the makeup Joanne applied was very natural. I received a lot of compliments from friends who attended the wedding about how I wasn't overly made up. Thank you Joanne.

I was referred to Joanne through someone I knew who had used her services for her wedding day. I had my hair and make-up trial with Joanne last weekend. She was an upbeat person and very helpful and patient.

For make up, she allowed me to bring my own, but of course, what she had was better. She gave her suggestions on eye shadow colors and tried different ones. She introduced me to the world of false lashes. With my long lashes, I would have never considered false lashes, but she showed me how it can add volume to my existing lashes. I thought that was very cool. Of course, my mom was there with me to give her opinions and she liked Joanne as well.

For hair styles, I showed her some magazine cutouts as well as a photo of my dress so she can help me to decide what kind of hair-do was appropriate. She curled my hair and gave me a half up half down do as well as an up-do. It seemed easy and natural to her when I can never style my own hair! I enjoyed working with her and can't wait for the look on my wedding day!

Also, I liked the fact that she does not require mothers and/or bridesmaids to getting their hair/makeup done in order for her to travel. Most hair/makeup artists require to have mothers and/or 2+ bridesmaids to get services done in order to have them come to your specified location.

It's been about 1 month since my wedding (4/19/08) and I wanted to make sure I expressed my thoughts on such a wonderful make-up / hair artist. Joanne knew her stuff and thanks to Yelp, I was able to land on her review and give her a whirl...I'm so glad! She was really easy to work with and made each of us (me and my bridesmaids) feel comfortable! I would recommend her to anyone planning something special in the future as she would definitely do you up magically!

I Love Joanne! She is so awesome! She did hair and make-up for my wedding as well as several people in my bridal party. She is very professional, sweet, and puts 110% into what she does. I usually look weird with too much make up on (i've had not so stellar trials done by mac and benefits make up artists) but she did such a great job enhancing my natural looks. Love the false eyelashes she puts on and she does such an awesome job of it that you don't even feel them. Everyone complemented me on my make up and surprisingly the make up stayed on all day with no touch up! Oh and she is so reasonably priced compared to other wedding hair/make-up people. =)

my fiancee (E) came back from a couple make up and hair trials before our wedding and for the first time in our relationship, i had second thoughts. and then she came back from joanne.

the difference? the others made E look like julia roberts pre-richard gere/hector elizondo. joanne didn't make her look like a ho.

joanne, thanks for not making me marry a cheap hooker...i mean a hooker...period.

Joanne is totally sweet and personable, definitely the type of vendor I'd want to be with me on my wedding day. I felt very comfortable talking to her and asking her questions. I had brought pictures of hair and makeup styles I liked and she was able to replicate the makeup style to what it was in the picture. She uses Bare Minerals and Mac makeup, and does the natural look, but can go more dramatic if you ask her. We tried three different hair styles. The one I had asked her to do (a wrapped/woven bun) wasn't pulled off as neatly as it appeared in the picture, but I think she had never done that style before and my hair also might not have been long enough. When I saw my fiance, he was impressed and told me to book her. So I did.

When I think back to my wedding day last November, I will inevitably be thankful for Joanne's participation and help. She took great care of me and the bridesmaids and handled everything with very calm grace. She is professional, prompt, easy to be around, and helpful to all my bridesmaids (and flower girl) on an important day that was pretty hectic. My wedding party featured multiracial beauties and Joanne deserves extra props for making everyone gorgeous and happy with the way they looked. My cousin and I have both had our share of makeovers gone wrong because of makeup artists that don't work well with Asian faces and skintones. She's a pro!

I also loved that she handled both hair and makeup very well. She was a valuable addition and worth every penny she charged me and more. I am so glad to have discovered her.

Joanne did my hair and make-up for my church wedding. What I liked best besides her beauty skills is her professionalism and versatility.

At the trial, I requested more natural-looking makeup. But after seeing the photos, I decided to go with more color. The final result exceeded my expectations. It complemented my complexion and showed up well in the photos but didn't look overdone in person. It didn't get cakey, nor settle into fine lines over the 12-hour day, nor did it fade when I had to dash from the car to the restaurant in the rain.

I had requested an updo with height at the crown, but as she was pinning it up, I asked if she could leave some curls down in the back. She re-adjusted, and I was really pleased with the final result. I asked her to pin an enamel brooch in my hair as an accessory. I thought it might be too heavy, but it didn't come loose the entire day. The real test (besides the rain) was when I took a much-needed nap before the reception. I carefully propped my head on pillows, but the pins didn't come loose, nor did the curls die.

I received at the wedding numerous compliments and inquiries of who did my hair and makeup. If you're looking for these services, book Joanne soon because the word is getting out, and her reasonable rates will no doubt go up.

5 stars. I've known Joanne for many years. I'm in my late 20's now, am getting married, and am bummed that she is already booked for my wedding. But back in the day, Joanne did my hair for my high school proms and formals so she has plenty of experience and that was almost 10 years ago. She's always had a talent for hair and makeup. You'll also never find someone who is as genuinely nice and real as her. She really makes a big effort to listen to what you want and is great at what she does.

A friend of my brother recently got married. When my brother arrived at the hotel where the bridal party was getting ready at, who does he see but Joanne working with the bride! I'm told that she did an awesome job and everyone was happy with her work.

*** Update! ***
So Joanne's schedule freed up and she was able to do my hair/makeup for my wedding. She came to do makeup for everyone in my bridal party, then did touch ups after the ceremony and redid my hair to a 2nd style. I received so many compliments that it was hard not to smile!

Joanne was great! She arrived early to my house and was very professional. She did make up for me, 3 bridesmaids and my mom and we all looked great! Love the false eyelashes too! I'd definitely recommend her for your wedding makeup, especially if you like a more natural look.

I had my hair and make-up trial with Joanne yesterday. I'm so glad I held out and waited to meet with her. She listened to exactly what I wanted and solicited honest feedback from me so we could create the exact look that I wanted. She works wonders on my very difficult thick mane of hair and is equally skilled in make-up. She is also just a very nice person and someone I felt comfortable talking to.

We tried on various hair styles and played with my make-up until we got it perfect. I left immediately after for my 12 hour engagement shoot. Guess what? My hair and make-up stayed up all day through the heat (75) and even while we hiked through Muir Woods during the photoshoot. The make-up definitely passed the test! Our photographer, Chris Sommers, commented that the make-up looked natural as well. I'll update with some photos soon.
She is excellent at false eyelashes application. I was at first apprehensive but whatever she used, I didn't feel it on me all day! in the past, falsies have always given me problems but the ones she used, were perfect. Didn't cause me irritation or fatigue at all!

I highly recommend Joanne and can't wait for her to beautify me on my wedding day!
