JPC Event Group
VENUE: New Hazlett Theater (Pittsburgh, PA) / JPC SERVICES NEEDED: Catering, Rentals, Day-of Coordination. Hiring JPC Event Group was the best decision we could have ever made. They are a one-stop-shop for everything from catering to rentals to event planning and design, and I felt very at ease from our very first call with Rick. He answered all of my questions and explained their overall process and pricing structure, which is much more economical than a lot of other city caterers. I knew right away that they were perfect. On the day of the wedding, the level of service and professionalism JPC provided was above and beyond anything we could have expected. Rick and his team are so efficient, so polite, and so organized. The only thing I worried about was getting myself to the theater on time! They were at the venue bright and early, and every detail I had communicated in the weeks prior was perfectly executed. And the food? For cocktail hour, the mac&cheese cupcakes and shrimp-cocktail shooters were a huge hit! Not only were they delicious, but they were also beautifully plated and presented by JPC's friendly staff. The staff even came outside to cater to guests as they were waiting to have their picture taken -- very appreciated. For dinner, we wanted to have a traditional, family-style Thanksgiving dinner, and JPC gave us a Thanksgiving feast worthy of any grandmother's table. Everyone I've talked to has just RAVED about the food, which was so flavorful (it impressed our foodie bridesmaid, our chef groomsman, and my super-picky aunt!) and served right on time and still piping hot. I've never ever seen so many clean plates at a wedding! JPC is a class act. They did an OUTSTANDING job and are an INCREDIBLE team. A million thanks to Rick and everyone there for helping to give us the wedding of our dreams.
I am so thrilled that we hired JPC Event Group to cater our wedding reception at the Buhl Park Casino in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Additionally, their sister company, Garnish, provided gorgeous yellow monochromatic floral arrangements for the wedding party, our parents, and the centerpieces at our reception. Upon arrival to our reception, I was so relieved to notice that every little detail I had requested during the planning process had been executed perfectly...from the vintage milk glass hobnail vases used in our floral centerpieces to the delicious buttercream cake to the chairs, the linens, the place settings, and the way they had arranged our seating.
Paisley was our contact person as we neared the big day, and she responded immediately to all of my email requests and concerns. She went out of her way to make sure everything we desired was in place and also made several excellent suggestions along the way; I felt completely confident in her because she really knows what she's doing and truly cares about the satisfaction of her clients. This is crucial.
As for the reception itself, the food was amazing and the portions, generous! Our wedding guests went on and on and ON about the food. I had countless people tell me it was THE BEST food they have ever tasted at a wedding, and my father and the DJ both informed Chef Rohn personally. All of the people working the event were so courteous, friendly and helpful, and Celeste, the main event person, stopped by our table several times to make sure everything was okay, which was very thoughtful.
To sum it up, JPC is a class act. They genuinely care about the satifaction of their clients and the people working for them are true professionals. I am so thrilled that we hired them for our reception and feel they made our wedding day an extraordinary event for all.
The event planner I worked with for nine months decided to leave her job a month before my wedding. I was assured by JPC Event Group that my planner would fulfill her responsibilities and be on hand the day of my wedding. Since she was most familiar with the planning of the day, she needed to be there, but she wasn't. The result of her not being there was miscommunication, unsatisfactory service, and broken promises. For the money we paid JPC, I expected much more. I would not recommend them for a wedding (or any event for that matter) in the future.
The food they prepared was DELICIOUS! People are still talking about the food we had. We chose stations and couldn't have been happier. The mini milkshakes we had at the end of the night were delicious. The cake was beautiful and very very tasty! I was a very full bride by the time I tried everything. They are a great company and I would hire them for any events I had. The linens and chairs wer chose were gorgeous as well and set up perfectly.
First of all I'd like to encourage brides to post about the experiences they've had as its the only way for future brides to get a real sense of what they can be in store for. If it werent for another bride who's day was ruined by JPC Event Group I probably wouldnt have had the courage to write this so for that I say thank you! Like another review posted in the fall 2012 we worked with a JPC Coordinator for 8 months prior to the wedding. She left her position a few weeks prior to the wedding. This is something JPC went to great lengths to keep under wraps. From then on it was nothing but non communication or no communication at all. They barely returned calls and refused to meet with us in person. They ended up taking some notes (they claim) our coordinator gave to them and proceded to put on a wedding for which we paid for. Everything was wrong! Our flowers were terrible to the point I cut them up before walking down the aisle and didnt want to be photographed with them. They were the wrong flower types, the wrong colors, and the entirely wrong style. In some instances they were even in the wrong locations. Our food was ok, it was warm and cooked thoroughly. Our cupcake display was a disaster and I wanted the entire thing taken down! Not only that but many cupcakes were on their sides in the boxes and ruined. We also had gelato served as a desert. However this was served almost two and a half hours late and was a total waste of money. JPC was a complete nightmare to work with. And even after the wedding they have yet accknowledge a single thing was not as it should have been. To this day they continue to blame us and take no responsibility.
The food was amazing! They also did the wedding cake and everyone loved it!
Unfortunately our experience with JPC was somewhat disappointing, especially after seeing all the great reviews. Better communication from them would probably have prevented the issues that caused us dissatisfaction. My husband and I can only explain our experience by the fact that the JPC handles many events and, from looking at their site, most of their other customers probably pay a lot more money. Given the size of their staff, they need to prioritize the higher paying customers first. We only used them for catering, bartending and linen/china rentals (not planning our entire event).\r\n\r\nIf you are reading this for a quick review: At the end of the day, yes everyone got their food (no major complaints) and the JPC met the minimum requirements of the agreement… but the attention to detail and level of elegance that the JPC boasts, was not carried out at our reception. The planning leading up to the wedding was cumbersome and communication with the JPC made us feel like our wedding was at the bottom of their list.\r\n\r\nIf you have time for some detailed comments, the following are the areas that were most disappointing:\r\n\r\nLeading up to the wedding... Working with the JPC was very frustrating. In person they were very nice but they were hard to get a hold of otherwise and either they would ignore our email questions completely or only provide partial answers. To their credit, we think they may have been looking into some of the questions/requests, but they never communicated either way so we didn’t know which questions were being addressed and which were being ignored. \r\n\r\nOn the wedding day .... We paid $399 (incl. taxes and fees) for a champagne toast with a strawberry garnish because we thought it would be an elegant touch. The delivery however was just the opposite. They put all the glasses on the table in one cluster near the edge rather than taking the time to place a glass at each individual setting. It looked really cheap and on top of that, our guests had to pass the glasses around themselves or get up from their seat to retrieve a glass. We’ve never seen glasses left in this manner at any other wedding. Had we known this was a possibility we would have paid whatever the cost was to have the glasses placed at the place setting. In retrospect, given how they were displayed, forgoing the toast glasses altogether would have been more elegant.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, we were surprised to see that the water glasses weren’t initially poured for guests. The proposal said that there would be a water pitcher at the table and we mistakenly assumed that meant there would be the extra pitcher there in case guests needed a refill. We didn’t realize it meant they would have to serve themselves right from the start. Again, we never saw it done this way at any other wedding and had we known that the JPC was only going to do the absolute minimum, we would have paid to have them pour the first glass of water!\r\n\r\nThe most frustrating of all issues was our bar service (We hired our bartenders from the JPC). They recommended 1 bartender per 100 guests so we had 2 bartenders with about 130 guests at the cocktail hour. We had several guests and family members tell us later that the bar line was one of the worst they’ve seen at a wedding in terms of how long it took! We believe that the signature drink (which we picked) may have contributed to the slow line. HOWEVER, what is frustrating is that we were worried about that prior to the big day and we emailed the JPC on three separate occasions asking for them to review the recipe and to advise us if we should pre-mix anything or if they foresaw any issues with our selection. The JPC never responded to our questions about the signature drink so we foolishly assumed that they must have it under control.\r\n\r\nAll in all, our recommendation is that if you are on a small budget (i.e. $7k for catering 140 ppl) then you should really consider other options (even if you have to pay a little more). We really feel like the JPC did the minimum possible to meet the contract and carelessly carried out the details of our day because we weren’t one of their top-paying customers.\r\n
They were the best event planners for our daughter's wedding on May 12, 2012. The wedding was a great success and our guests really enjoyed the whole day. It was a pleasure working with all of them. The food was fresh, tasty and delicious. The bridal bouquets were gorgeous with the perfect yellow garden roses my daughter wanted. The cake looked exactly like the bride thought it should and was exceptional, and the cookie display was enjoyed by everyone. Just a job well done all around. We were so pleased.
JPC Event Group were rockstars in our book! They gave us so many unique ideas that we used to make our wedding different. Everyone always says they want a different or unique wedding but it ends up being the same as everyone else. Ours really wasn't and people still talk about it months later. We had food stations with cooking live and the food was great. They also did our flowers, linens and made our wedding cake. Allyson was our event planner from their staff and she always returned our phone calls and wrote back to our emails. Jody, the owner, came to our location and offered alot of suggestions that we loved. They all worked really hard to make our day great.
On the big day, everything did go smoothly and everyone loved the food. I wish I could give 5 stars for everything, and I wish I had a great experience like everyone else raves about. I have many different situations which were not right or should have been clearer with dealing with Jody's Pantry aka JPC Event Group.
1. CONTRACT: Thankfully I was able to secure the price for all of the services provided; however, looking back now, I realized what is right and “not right”. When signing the contract and making a deposit with Jody’s Pantry aka JPC Even Group, there was no pricing structure outlined in the contract. Selecting your food menu and taste tasting your menu came after signing the contract. I printed out all of the menus and pricing from Jody’s Pantry’s old website before I contacted them. When we signed our contract (again, it doesn’t state a pricing structure-and we were going off the website pricing structure) Jody’s Pantry was going through a transition phase to JPC Event Group. They updated their new website taking down all of their pricing for the different selection menus. When the time came for us to pick our menu, the price jumped $10 per person for the same menu from the old website. Thankfully JPC Event group honored the original advertised price. If they didn’t , I would have felt taken advantaged of since they now no longer itemize menus printed with any type of pricing structure. Brides don’t like overpaying or being overcharged!
2. TASTE TESTING: Ever since the issue with the pricing structure I felt that communication with JPC Event Group was not how it should have been. When it was time to taste test our wedding menu, I asked and confirmed a menu that we selected, plus certain cake options we wanted to taste. Upon arrival, we were served the wrong menu to test and the 2 flavor options that I requested to try was not available (which would have been fine if they told me that via email).
3. COMMUNICATIONS: The first couple days before we signed the contract, Jodys Pantry was great with returning phones. Rick told me email was the best way to communicate after we signed the contract, after our pricing structure issue and the taste testing and trying to reschedule another re-taste testing, my emails would go days without response, I would have to make a phone call to have my email questions or concerns answered, and even when some of my questions were answered, other parts were not. The week before my wedding it took 4-5 days to get in touch after I left both emails and phone calls where messages were left. As soon as I contacted my venue where JPC Event Group are highly recommended, I received a response immediately.
4. FINAL BILL: When it was time to receive our itemized bill, there was a mix up from a sit down menu to the buffet style which we had selected. We were also charged for a wedding cake which we told Rick months in advanced that we had another vendor making our wedding cake. The wedding cake was later taken off. We were also charged a china fee per person and then taxed 20% as a service charge for the china… I understand the 20% for the food, and the appetizers--- but china?
I was surprised how everything played out considering all of the great reviews that I have seen. I am thankful on the day of the wedding everything was fine. The preparations and communications with JPC Event Group were very stressful and that was my only issue through my whole wedding planning, every single one of my vendors that I worked with went smoothly with no miscommunications or problems.
*** **We recommend this vendor for the food quality and the price, other than that, be organized and proceed with caution*****
Vendor response to review
The JPC EG pricing guideline structure is clearly highlighted in our wedding services brochure, and customized service proposals are prepared in writing for every client who seeks our services before they contract so that they are aware of all costs, menu components and service fees. This proposal is signed along with the catering contract. We believe in a custom experience for each client so that they can elect for the services and menu items that best reflect their needs, rather than feeling trapped in an ABC package that has components they do not desire.
In the instance of this particular menu, the client was working from "sample menus" of previous events and chose to change out the listed beef and chicken options in the sample menu which resulted in an upgrade in quality and ingredients and that was clearly reflected in the written proposal. When the client requested for pricing concern that the meat selections were return to the original sample menu selections the listed pricing was fully honored.
As to taste testings- at JPC EG we offer one complimentary tasting that is chef's choice of menu items and appetizers. Cake flavors are baked fresh and subject to availability. We recommend to our clients to save their complimentary tasting for after menu selection has occured to enable them to taste their chosen items.
Final billings-- JPC EG utilizes an on-line webform for the convenience of our clients to submit their guest counts to us for their event, confirm time frames and specify any special needs for vegans, vegatarians, and the allergies. When this particular client completed the web-form, they filled in the entree count box for sit down service listing each entree and the number of each desired. Logically we took this to mean that they had elected to change to sit-down meal service since the meal counts were delineated- and please note that no change in costs were incurred by the client despite the seeming change in service style. When final billing was sent, we noted the fact that entree counts had been provided and questioned this as a buffet was originally desired.
Service fees- our company charges a service fee as all companies do to cover service staff at an event, culinary staff at the event and in preparation of the event, travel costs, equipment usage, liability and insurance for the production of your event at an off-premise venue, and the administrative hours holding planning meetings and tastings. The service fee is charged on equipment as we must transport it to your site, load and unload it, and in the case of dishes, flatware and glassware, wash them. These fees are clearly listed in our contract, on our proposals, discussed on our JPC blog and in no way hidden or an attempt to overcharge our clients.
It is never the intent of our staff or owners for any client to feel as if our services were not exemplary, and as if their day did not receive the full attention it deserved.
A fabulous experience all around. My flowers were gorgeous, the decor was just what I had envisioned and more, the food got rave reviews and the cake was perfect and delicious. I could not have asked for more. They accommodated us in every way and helped us have the best day ever!
JPC will not just cater your wedding, they will put on a food production for you! I knew that I didn't want your traditional "chicken of beef" at my wedding - we wanted to "wow" our guests with the food presentation and taste- and I had so many other options to choose from I could have had 100 wedding with different menus. The quality of the food and service is superior and is reasonably priced - I felt that the price/person was very fair. Another plus is that they make BEAUTIFUL (and tasty!) wedding cakes for their bridal clients for a very reasonable price - I had a very ornate cake with hand cut fondant flowers covering it for $3.25/serving - if I would have gone to a specialty bakery it could have easily cost more than $5.00/serving.
In addition to using JPC for our catering, we utilized their bartenders and I sourced my linens through them - they have a very large selection. Overall - I was extremely pleased with the presentation, the quality of food and the service we recieved on our wedding day. Their event captains could not have been more attentive to me on the wedding day.
My only negative comment is that I had to wait for responses to my e-mails/ phone calls longer than I would have liked/ was used to with my other vendors- but when I did get a response it was very professional and they were very accomodating to what my wants/ needs were.
Thank you JPC Event Group so much for everything you provided and did for us to make our wedding day at The Mattress Factory PERFECT. The service was wonderful and the food was AMAZING! Everyone had a great time.
It was a great celebration for Brooke's wedding and reception! Much of the credit goes to Rick and his staff for their many talents in making an event like this be very special, beautiful, and worry free! Truly professional from start to finish.
Should we have a need in the future, we will certainly call you. From the initial tasting, to the set up, to the cocktail hour, to the reception and custom sailboat cookies---our hats off to you!! It was a pleasure working with you.
Jpc Event Group were by far my favorite vendor. Rick was kind, funny, and informed me on every wedding trend. They helped me with so much more then just food. The staff was very polite and professional also. Thank you for making my day so special.
Jody's Pantry provided my catering at the Atrium and they did a fantastic job. From the first time I tasted their food, I knew I wanted them to cater the wedding. All of my guests commented about what great food we had at the wedding. They were a pleasure to work with and I would suggest them to anyone looking for a cater for any event.
Everyone at JPC made our day absolutely perfect! The food was excellent, and the cake to die for! Our guests keep talking about the scrumtious food and how amazing the staff was during the entire set-up process and the reception itself. We couldn't have imagined a more exceptional experience.
Jody's Pantry provided the catering at our wedding reception. The food was delicious. They also made the cake, which was beatiful. They provide excellent service at a low cost. I would recommend them to anyone getting married!
I really loved my experience working with everyone at JPC. Our planning process was easy and organized, and they were able to assist us with everything we needed from linens to wedding cake. They also recommended alot of the other vendors we used and they were all great. All in all, I would highly recommend them. We loved our cake, our guests raved about the food, and they seemed to work very well with our venue at making sure everything ran smoothly for us.
Jody's Pantry did an amazing job! The food was wonderful and the cake was SO beautiful! Everyone was talking about how great the food was even days later! We were impressed with the price and everything it included. My husband and I also felt there was a very high level of professionalism.
We held our reception at the Village Inn facility that the catering company owns. It was such a great experience from start to finish. They thought of everything, they quickly responded to all our questions through the planning, and the facility was newly remodeled and we were one of the first events since the remodel. Our guests kept complimenting us for finding a treasure with great food, cake and service.
Any bride or wedding guest will be delighted with an event including services by Jody's Pantry. They have an intense desire to create the dream of the bride, and the expertise that enables their staff to fulfill that desire!
We met with Rick personally while planning our event, who discussed all of our wants and needs. Jody's Pantry's showroom is in a fantastic, restored old barn of a building, and there are many books with pictures as inspiration, while you sip on tea. The atmosphere is fun and sophisticated, and you feel secure that these people "know what they're doing".
The weather was very unpredictable during the week before our wedding. Rick consulted with the staff at Buhl Mansion Guesthouse and Spa, the site of our reception, numerous times to adapt our plans, so that the final outcome would be the very best solution. On the day of our wedding, Jody and her staff set up our reception professionally without interfering with our plans and our presence. Their staff, dressed in matching black shirts and perky pink satin ties, was prompt and friendly. You always felt that it was their desire to serve you and they were pleased to do it, but they were never in the way. Their vast experience gives them an air of confidence while they swing into action.
The presentation was exactly what we had hoped for and more. We had planned an informal, fun cocktail hour reception. Rick and Jody created amazing hors' doeuvres
served in sparkling barware to promote the cocktail party theme. Delicious and visually stunning, the food was complimented over and over by our guests. Our cake was exactly what we had desired, communicating our 60's look with our wedding colors.
Jody's Pantry's discreet retreat from our reception also added to our satisfaction. As a hostess, my participation in the clean-up was minimal, so I could continue to enjoy my guests.
A bride can have complete confidence that Jody's Pantry is able to create and deliver your wedding dreams, hopes and plans. They are continually training and seeking to improve their personal skills and supplies to keep current with trends. As a hostess and a mother, I was so proud of the wedding reception we gave our daughter, and the happy memories we gave her to start her new life.
The staff at Jody's Pantry made my wedding day perfect. We had a rustic outdoor theme to our reception held outside at my Grandparent's farm. It was very important to us that the event be as organic as possible, and eco-friendly. They came through for us on everything. Rick helped us custom create a menu of autumn goodness that also took into consideration the vegans in our wedding party. They were also so flexible when we presented them with all of the DIY touches we wanted for the event. My grandmother made vintage fabric napkins for each place setting, and they ironed them for us before folding! No charge! Our pumpkin and spice wedding cake was such a big hit too. Very moist and filled with cream cheese. Our photographer told us that was the best wedding cake she had ever had at a wedding and obviously she has had alot of wedding cake.
I would have loved to have given Jody's Pantry a higher rating as she is a real sweetheart who made us an absolutely gorgeous wedding cake. My cake, however, was extremely dry. Almost all of our guests left their cake on their plates. This was a real disappointment as I have been to many a wedding where her cakes were the highlight of the evening.
Food was terrific. My cake was gorgeous! I got to pick 3 different flavors and they were all wonderful. Highly recommended!
The food was delicious and they offered a ton of choices, not just regular wedding food. Staff was very professional and friendly and everything was taken care of without me having any worries.
As for the cake, I cannot say enough. They let you look through their books and you can go off that if you want or tweak it and tell them anything you have in mind. The price was very reasonable especially considering they hand make each little sugar flower (which look ridiculously better than actual flowers) We got a million compliments on the cake and have a picture of it up on our wall.
I only have good things to say about my experience with Jody's Pantry! We booked them through the Atrium so I didn't deal with them directly but i have no complaints. The catered my wedding buffet dinner, appetizers and also did my cake. The cake was beautiful and the food was good. The guests all enjoyed the meal, a few guests complimented that it was great. The staff was very professional.
Jody's Pantry Catering did an excellent job not only with the food, but also with the table service - linens, chairs and all the wonderful suggestions along the way.
Jody and Rick were WONDERFUL to work with. Our wedding was outdoors at my parent's home by the lake and they arranged everything for us...clear tents, tables, chiavari chairs, table linens, their company china, charger plates...and on and on. The food was served in stations with chefs and our guests loved that! Jody did our cake and sugar cookies for our favors...loved them! The made many great reverals for floral, photography and music too. A+ company.
loved every bit!
We used Jody's Pantry at our wedding at The Atrium. They were wonderful to work with. I can't tell you how many people commented on how good the food was. The cake was beautiful! They really did an excellent job and I would recommend them to others without any hesitations.
Smiling all the way to my honeymoon because Jody's Pantry was FABULOUS! Our guests raved non-stop at our reception-- about the food displays, the uniqueness of the menu (not that same old New Castle Chicken and Pasta), the gourgeous wedding cake, and the attention to detail that saved the day several times. Please use this company if you want an event that will be flawless and food that will be above wedding par!
They catered our wedding and people still talk about how great their food was three months later. We almost booked another caterer right before meeting them at a bridal fair, and we were so glad we waited becasue they were very good. Eventhough we wanted a buffet, they made it different for us by putting out the food in a unique way and it made the lines move fast and people wer e impressed. I loved my cake too. They have a great "event specialist" named Bonnie. Ask for her when you call them.
The food was delicious....the family style worked really well for the large group of people at our reception and everyone was happy with being able to still choose what went on their plate and the ease of getting more of something they enjoyed. The cake was absolutely beautiful and the taste was beyond anything we've had at any other wedding. Friends still talk about the cake!!
Jody's Pantry provided the food and the cake for our wedding. We got positive reviews on both, although I was too excited to eat much that day! The cake was incredible. I will say that I wanted something simple and felt like I wasn't using Jody's talent to it's fullest ability - she is able to recreate just about anything you could dream up and I know I didn't give her a challenge. But our 4 tier, round, edible pearl embellished cake topped with Gerber daisies was stunning! We also were able to choose 3 different batters and fillings for our guests to choose from. Look at the website for a long list of mouth-watering combinations. My only complaint is that there was a miscommunication about our cake tasting. We showed up to sample the cake; Jody showed up to design our cake! She kindly ran to the kitchen and pulled out 4 different batters and fillings so that we could taste something. We also did not hear about their tasting open houses early enough and were unable to attend. In the end, it didn't matter because the food was good and the cake was lovely and "scrumptious", as Jody's Pantry likes to say. :)
I meant to write this review a while ago, but we moved out of town after the wedding and things got stressful. Anyway-- Jody and Rick- you were great. Mike and I could not have asked for more. They took care of so many little extras for us and didn't nickle and dime us while doing so. Our linens were so beautiful, they recommended a wonderful florist and a fun dj that our guests loved. The food was presented in such a metropolitan way that was better than most caterers in our neck of the woods. And of course our cake was the best! modern and delicious. Jody made me a believer in fondant!
I wish there were more than 5 stars in that rating selector because Jody and Rick deserve more than 5! They are simply the best at what they do. They care so much about their events and clients and we felt so pampered and taken cake of by them. They ensured that our day was flawless. Our cake was a show stopper, our food was delicious and well presented, and our guests continually commented throughout the evening about how perfect everything was. Kudos to Jody's Pantry staff and owners. We would always be happy to give a reference for them.
We got all of our wedding cookies from Jody's and she also made us the most beautiful fondant cake. It was so delicious that we have almost eaten our topper several times in this year before our 1st anniversary! The tasting she set up for us was amazing. She had cupcakes made in practically every cake/filling combo you could imagine, so we really got to try ALL of the flavors before making a decision. We also got to try all of the cookies. Jody's definitely takes the time to make sure you are completely satisfied with your decisions. They have an awesome portfolio of deliciousness!!!
We had the catering and the wedding cake ordered from Jody's Pantry. Everyone really enjoyed all of the food. I loved the wedding cake and I was super impressed that I got to select a different flavor & filling combination for each of the layers. That was cool! Everything was scrumptious!
My overall experience with this vendor has been very frustrating. I would say that I am your average bride, who was willing to pay good money for great service and excellent food. The owners of JPC enent group were overall nice people. The initial correspondences were handled in a timely manner, but the closer I got to my wedding day I could not get ahold of anyone to answer my questions, clarify questions about my contract, or even drop off my final payment.
In a nutshell here were my biggest complaints: waitstaff, cake, contract and communication. I had several difficulties with members of the waitstaff during the wedding. This was brought to the vendors' attention after the wedding was over and hopefully the servers were trained better on how to wait tables. My complaint was that they were rushing the food service while people were still trying to eat, they seemed very confused about some of the meals we purchased and what needed delivered where, and one male server was just rude then entire night. JPC did issue a partial refund to me due to these servers' actions.
Next on my list would be the contract. I am not a lawyer. I did not think to scrutinize every line of our contract. I did read it and understand it at the time, but sometimes you just don't know that something is missing until you realize it your wedding day. I operate more on the basis of what I remember talking about in our meetings with the caterer and what was agreed upon during that time. Here are some of the miscommunications that I had because they were not written in the contract. To the average bride who has never planned a wedding before-- pay attention to: the beverage service (know what is complimentary: water, coffee, etc.) I was under the assumption my guests would be served tea during the cocktail hour and wedding reception and that was not written in the contract so it did not happen. They were left to wander around and then hit the bar very early running up our tab and cost of soft drinks. We discussed having tea, flavored water, and coffee during our first meeting, but the tea is a seperate line on the contract even though we discussed it with the other complimentary items. In my mind they were all lumped together because we talked about them together.
Also, cake pieces are charged by the slice. They calculate the total based on the guests consuming cake, not the guests present at the wedding. The cake flavor was excellent; however, we had a lot of confusion about how many slices were served. I felt like some of my guests did not receive full cake slices. As a side note: children who receive a child's meal DO NOT get cake. This will cause you to run short, so keep this in mind that the servers are not supposed to serve them a slice. I did not know this. It just appears that you are not getting cake to everyone at your wedding. Then your guests will start to complain. Also, vendors do not get a slice of cake even when you purchase a vendor meal for them. Keep that in mind as well. I had a few guests with plates full of crumbs because we appeared to not have enough cake for everyone. I should have had enough cake despite the children and vendors, so I don't know what happened. Also, the anniversary cake topper is complimentary, but be sure they give you what you ordered. Mine had to be thrown in the garbage because it contained fresh fruit instead of a what we had originally ordered. I was assured that we could have eaten it anyway, but I was initially told that it would not hold up so I threw our anniversary cake in the garbage. It was a disappointing anniversary for us because we did not have a cake to celebrate, but hey, it was free afterall so I guess I'm not supposed to complain! <insert sarcasm here>
If you choose to use other outside vendors, in addition to this event group, be aware that there is a lot of room for confusion to occur. I used a different florist and the cake was baked properly (well, everything but the cake topper) but decorated incorrectly because the florist gave them the wrong flowers. After mentioning the error with the cake, they made sure to mention that I did not hire them to be my wedding planner or coordinator. So, I guess they never thought to mention that the flowers did not resemble the original picture, because the flowers were not their department. I didn't see the cake until my husband and I came into the reception and we walked over to cut it. I was thinking in my mind "This is so not my wedding cake!!!", but what are you supposed to do infront of all your guests? So we carried on as though every thing was fine.
It is my opinion that bigger businesses or people who have lots of money to throw around do not necessary see all the small mishaps that happen, nor are they as emotionally invested when something goes wrong. However, for a bride like myself who saved every penny for her wedding, received money from parents and other loved ones, and planned a whole wedding by herself... all of the small details DO matter. As a client, I like to feel like I get what I paid for. Seeing how we paid close to $4,500 for our small venue of 90 people I was "underwhelmed" and very, very, frustrated. I felt like a fool for paying that much money for what we got. I had a lot of time and money invested in my wedding day because I planned everything myself and I wanted it to be a perfect day.
In all fairness, the food this vendor offers has the potential to be good and Rick and Jody are not unreasonable people. We had some timing issues that caused half of our meal to be dry because our pictures ran over so plan accordingly. (As a side note: I would not do a plated meal again either, I think the buffet opinion would offer guests more food and allievate the worry to time it properly with pictures and all.)
Nonetheless, it's been a year since our wedding and I still have enough frustration running through me (especially after the cake topper incident) to write a review because I want other brides to have a reference before considering this company. I felt like I wasn't really cared about and the mistakes that happened with me were just "unfortunate". In their minds, I am probably just some "bridezilla" who couldn't be made to be happy. They did issue an apology and a small refund as I mentioned before, but I am still left feeling taken for a whole lot of money and not having been given that "five star service" I was promised.
Good luck brides, shop around and beware of those contracts.
