Joe Enroughty and his band were a wonderful addition to our wedding reception. Everyone had positive things to say about the music.
Joe paid attention to the songs we wanted and the songs we didn't want. He was even able to handle requests "on the spot", which made many of our guests quite happy!
I would highly recommend this band for any wedding reception where high quality, first class musicianship is the order of the day.

FAQ for Joe Enroughty And His Royal Virginians
Are you an agency or a band?
Band
What is the size of your band?
Large (6+ musicians)
What music genre does your band play?
Big Band, Swing
Do you have liability insurance?
No
What is your band's usual attire?
Tuxedo for formal events or white collar shirts and khaki pants for casual or outdoor events.
Do you offer live sample performances or CDs?
Yes we do. Whenever we have a public performance, you are welcome to come and hear us. Occasionally we can get you into private events to hear the band if needed.
Are you willing to learn songs that you do not currently know?
Yes, but it depends on the song. It can generally cost anywhere from $80 to $100 just to have a 2 and a half minute song arranged.
How much time do you usually need for setup?
Usually an hour to an hour and a half is standard. Depending on the venue, and location of setup, more time may be required.
How much space do you usually require?
Some of the greatest dances we have ever played were in very crowded rooms or for a very small crowd (one party had 15 guests). We are also much lower in volume than a disc jockey although we have more people. We can fit in a space against the wall 13?x28?. In a word, we find we are never ?too big?. Please talk to us if your event planner, hotel caterer, (or anyone) tries to dissuade you from hiring the music you want.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
We supply sound equipment.
Do you usually emcee the event, or talk between songs?
Yes, I can do this if required. At dances, this is standard.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you need a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Meals are not required, but are always appreciated. Soft drinks, water and coffee should be provided to the musicians during breaks. We do require at least 1 fifteen minute break per hour (excluding the 1st hour of performance time).
Do you play recorded music during your break?
This can easily be done. The customer can supply the music or we can, depending on what is wanted.
What is your overtime rate?
Please contact us directly regarding our overtime rate.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Yes we do. It depends on how far we have to travel. Please contact us directly for more information regarding travel expenses.
Additional Advice
Q: Should I Hire An Orchestra Solely Through A Video?
A: Possibly, yes. Remember, however a video cannot adequately capture the energy or tenderness of a performance. Be cautious of videos in general. Pay attention to reputation and see a band live whenever possible. Our video is not “slickly” produced in a studio. Our video is made up of music recorded live at one of our many dances. Our production, while not as “glitzy” as some, does offer an honest glimpse of our unique style. This “style” is really the essence of what you are hiring. Also, we are aware of many stories of clients who have hired orchestras through videos only to find a very different orchestra showing up at their party (sometimes with disastrous results). Some of these “orchestras” were assembled only to produce a video. The leader then calls musicians that happen to be available (even though they may never have played with any of the other musicians on the job, let alone rehearsed with them) and this becomes the instant “orchestra” for your party or dance.
Q: Will Everyone Like This Music?
A: Well…there is no one universal taste in music (or anything else). However, having done many events, we find we are extremely well received and recommended by the vast majority of our clients and their guests. We hear some interesting comments over and over such as: “Big Band music is not our favorite, but we had a good time dancing and stayed through to the last song” or “It was so refreshing to have a band that was not so loud. We could actually carry on a conversation in the same room; how refreshing and different from the typical big band”. We feel our entertainment factor, sincerity, and respect for your guests transcends musical taste.
Q: Will The Younger People Dance To This Music?
A: Absolutely. Of course, anyone can dance a “slow dance” to our ballads and while many people refer to our up-tempo tunes as “swing” most people we observe dancing are not “swing dancers” but they sure are dancing and having fun. Many times, we hear from young brides who are attempting to persuade their parents to hire us for their wedding (rather than vice versa).
Q: Can A Smaller Version Of The Band Be Used For Our Particular Event?
A: We are a 12-piece band complete with a female vocalist. 12 musicians and our vocalist are required to perform our arrangements accurately and authentically.
Q: I Do Not Know If Our Entertainment Budget Can Allow Us To Spend This Much.
A: Experts usually state, “the band makes the party” or “give your guests good food, drinks, a very good band, and cut corners elsewhere.” Although we have 14 people to pay in our performance, we are the same price as some much-respected 9 or 10 piece “Big Bands.” Yes, there are cheaper bands (and you'll get what you pay for). Moreover, there are more expensive orchestras (sometimes at only a fraction of our size). Our focus is to entertain and make people happy, not make lots of money. We enjoy what we do, and love to see people having fun as a result of our music.
Q: Do You Play The Music Of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Count Basie, And Others?
A: Yes, we play their hit songs in our own inimitable and danceable style. Everything from "Opus One" to "Pennsylvania 6-5000". We can swing with the best of them while maintaining our unique danceable sweet style. There's nothing better than our beautiful sweet saxophones swingin' out to the sound of "Woodchopper's Ball".
Q: Does The Band Play Any Contemporary Songs?
A: While we are not a "Top 40" band, we can perform music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and even a few songs from the 80's and 90's. Please keep in mind however, that we are a big band, and music from the big band era is our specialty. If you have a specific song you would like us to perform, it might be possible to have it arranged for your event. Just let us know!
