Josh Johnson Photography
I was very excited to meet Josh. A friend of my family used him for their daughters wedding. He was very laid back and his prices were super fair! I thought "too good to be true". The trouble started after our engagement pictures. We were told at our session that we would have the pictures the following week. We ended up waiting a full FOUR weeks with no communication from Josh or anyone at his company in regards to the hold up. I even tried emailing multiple times to make sure everything was okay (as I was beginning to be worried) and got no response. With the stress on a bride of planning a wedding this is simply not something you want to be worried about with your photographer. Time finally approached for the big day and I had no proactive communication from Josh to get details of the timeline for the day. I had to go after him...Multiple, multiple emails sent with no response! AH! I understand that life is busy, but being a paying customer if there are things going on you need to communicate to your customers the reason for your unavailability. I was truly worried he wasn't going to show up for the big day. Also, as time approached and the invoice was due in full I attempted to pay for it on his website. Well something was wrong with the website and it wouldn't allow me to pay electronically. I emailed Josh and poof and instant response. He asked me to bring a check with me the day of the wedding. Just what a bride needs, another thing to remember the day of. The day was busy and by reception time (DURING THE PARTY) i had josh ask me multiple times for my check. Now the problem I see here, it wasn't my fault as the customer that his payment site was down and if he had not gotten my check the day of the wedding, he had ALL of my pictures to hold until he received my payment. What bride wants to be bothered during her wedding for a check. I thought it was completely unprofessional. Due to the nature of his pictures, guessing he doesn't use photoshop, he said we would have our pictures of the wedding in two weeks. GREAT! except it didn't happen, we waited over a month with no response from Josh until we finally got the CDs. We had some nice pics but were given none in black and white and not to mention i had multiple family pictures with horrible shadows on peoples faces. At this level of photography and the use of digital cameras this is just unacceptable. I had asked if he could fix and he told me he would work on it... its now Almost December and I haven't heard from him. These are just extra stresses that a bride doesn't need. Simple things that never should have happened. A real shame. He's a nice guy but I hate to say I wouldn't recommend him.
We receive the most complimentary comments on our photos. Josh did both engagement photos and day of ceremony/reception photos for us and both sets are absolutely amazing. He is very artistic and creates beautiful work. However, if it is important to you to have the formal looking family photos, I wouldn't say this was his expertise (but maybe just because we didn't necessarly request anything like that) - the posing of family members wasn't the best. But every other picture during the ceremony, reception and engagement were just beautiful. We have sooooooooooooo many ceremony photos, yet didn't even notice him during the ceremony - he was magic. He did a great job of making rounds during reception and before ceremony to get friends and family hanging out. The price was great too. He was also very flexible - our wedding was not on the island he lives on and he'd never shot at our sight before, but he worked with us on our needs and delivered more than what we could have asked for.
