JustGive.org is a website that links to tons of other charitable websites. My husband and I loved the idea of selecting 3 very personal charities and donating a small amount in each guest's name. I love a bag of coffee and who doesn't love a handful of custom M&Ms but to us, this was a better route. We gave to donating to: juvenile diabetes research foundation, cancer research and Alzheimer’s.

“I went to a wedding recently where my friends Dave & Bridget donated money to families of fallen soldiers as wedding favors instead of a take home gift. Dave had just gotten back from Iraq and nothing seemed more appropriate. I loved the idea and also wanted to make my wedding favors meaningful to me and helpful in some way to others. With my grandmother suffering a massive stroke this year, I knew I wanted to do something in her honor. I found the National Stroke Association, which puts the money toward preventive research and aids in making the lives of stroke victims better. There are so many groups & organizations to choose from, and this fit perfect for me and my fiancé. My family truly appreciated it too. Your money is helping others, and it will beat any mints, picture frames or wine stopper favor you could buy! ”

"We were so glad to find JustGive.org! The gift we really wanted from our family and friends is their support for the nonprofit organizations we love—not another blender or toaster."

“For couples still deciding, it (a charitable gift) is a great way to make the favor meaningful, and at the end of the day, it always feels good giving back. The wedding is so much about the bride and groom, and this is a great way to make it about others in need.”

Additional Advice
Looking for wedding favors that are unique, meaningful, and will always remind guests of your special day? Make a donation to your favorite charity in honor of your guests—the most personal gift you can give:

* Honor a loved one with a donation to their favorite charity.
* Celebrate your community with a donation to a local charity.
* Remember a family member with a memorial donation.
* One for each of you? Choose two charities.

How do I politely inform my guests that I would prefer donations instead of gifts?

If your guests ask you what you would like as a wedding gift, you can express a preference for donations. You should not do this so strongly as to give the impression that you will be offended if you get anything else; some guests will want to give material gifts, and not everyone will want to support the charity that you have selected. And whatever you get, whether you like it or not, write a thank-you note!
