Dealing with Kansas Memories has been a TOTAL nightmare.
We wanted to meet to consult for our DJ and reception services and it is nearly impossible to get ahold of Ryan. Every time we called, we got his voicemail and he never returned our calls. When we added the photography to our reception venue rental, he required that we meet him at the venue to make a deposit, 8 p.m. - and he never showed up or called! We had to meet him the next week after we called him twice about meeting him.
We called every other day for two weeks to make arrangements for the DJ music list, before I finally talked to him. When we set up our appointment, he was 30 minutes late (as we sat outside in the cold). When I asked to look at a song list in order to set up our music, he said they had a 'theme' and 'plan' that they used for every wedding, but when asked to see it, he would not send me a copy. This should have been my warning that things would not go well. He also asked us to pay the balance of our payment 4 weeks early - for the top end of the estimated number of attendance - ANOTHER WARNING. He ASSURED us that he would refund us the difference if the number was lower than our top end.
The day of my reception (we had a destination wedding), it rained in the morning, but had stopped before noon, however Ryan tried to get us to reschedule the outdoor photos - even though the sun was shining. I told him that I did not want to reschedule due to the fact something may happen to my dress and I would not have my hair done or a bouquet. He said that it would look better without. I held my ground and he took the pictures. I later found out - he was not organized enough to be out taking pictures as a people were arriving at the reception, as none of his staff knew my husband and I's wishes for starting the reception.
When we arrived at the reception, he had us wait for 25 minutes in the bar next door as he prepared for our entrance. In the meantime, our caterer had the food already waiting and it was getting cold.
During the reception, my husband and I had to get constantly ask him to begin the reception with the first dances. By the time he got them started, it was almost 9 p.m. and some of the guests had already left. He had us wait on the dance floor for almost 20 minutes as he got the music ready (another point for unorganized). When he got our song ready, he flashed a name of ANOTHER COUPLE on the big screen behind us. When we did the mother/son, father/daughter dances - he got the songs and videos mixed up and stopped and started them twice.
As I stated earlier, Ryan assured us a refund for the number of people we paid over for the event hall (almost $400). When asked, he said that his office would send a check to us 7 days after the event. After 6 weeks, I called and inquired about the check and the photo disk and he gave an excuse and said it will be in the mail tomorrow. After 8 more weeks of calling once a week and asking about our refund and 8 weeks of listening to his excuses, we demanded to meet him to get our picutres and the check. The morning that we were to meet him, his assistant called and said that Ryan needed to reschedule. We never did meet with Ryan, when we picked up the check, his assistant said that Ryan asked if we could not cash it until the end of the week - ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I should have gotten more $ since he had ours for 3+ months - for the lost interest!
The engagement shots were okay, but there were only 4 different poses and about 40 pictures of each, so we were only able to get 2-3 prints made. The wedding photos were less than to be desired. Most of them were out of focus or completely blurred. There were 10 shots at the end of the bartender looking like he was attacking the camera with a pizza wheel?! You cannot be serious - I paid $300 for about 15 usable pictures. Most of the desired shots were out of focus - I am extremely disappointed!!!!
It takes forever to get a hold of the office because they had lost the girl running the place. They did good pictures but it wasn't until the week before the weeding before I actually heard from the photographer they contracted out to me.
I would suggest them, you just have to be patient and make sure you keep in contact with them.
The photographers from Kansas Memories assigned to our weddng were very talented and we really loved our photos. The only negative experience I had in regards to the photographers is that they forgot to take a couple of specific photos that I requested and were a little disorganized as to who was going to shoot our wedding. Otherwise, the girls did GREAT work! However, they are no longer with the company...
Unfortunetly, my experience with ordering our photos and albums from the owner of Kansas Memories was a complete nightmare and this is what I have primarily based this review on. The owner was completely disorganized and forever told me that products I had ordered were "in que" and could never provide me with delivery dates. I had to constantly contact him throughout the year to remind him that we were still waiting for our products (or responses to our emails) and to ask him for estimations of when he thought they would arrive (which he would never outright answer). Reflecting back, any descent and honest person would have "manned-up," apologized, and tried to reconcile the situation. He hardly (if ever) apologized for the inconveniences, lack of communication and TERRIBLE customer service. He just threw out one lame excuse after another and at times I even felt like he was trying to twist it around and make it my fault.
Most unfortunetly, several friends had used their services around the same time I had and most everyone had a similar experience in one way or another...GREAT pics from the photographers but terrible service from the owner. I will NEVER recommend Kansas Memories (or Westbottoms Photography as it is now called)! There are too many other GREAT local companies that will provide beautiful photos at a reasonable price, without sacrificing their customer service.
They travel to almost any location you would like and Cost are reasonable. You also get a copy right release for photos
Katrina did a wonderful job, and was very sweet and fun to work with. I definitely recommend her for anything.
The only issue I ran into was that there was a miscommunication regarding engagement picture date. Because of the mix-up they gave me $100 credit. I was impressed by the quality of product for the price.
Wedding photography was something very important to my husband and I... and Kansas Memories definitely did an amazing job to satisfy our desire. We were very happy with their familiarity of our Ceremony and Reception site which made taking great photos a breeze. Our photographer was amazing at being there to organize all the group shots, yet also great at blending in to be able to take those amazing shots that you would have never even remembered that existed. We were very impressed with all aspects of Kansas Memories. From the great photographers we used for our Engagement Photos and Wedding Photos. Plus how inclusive our wedding package was compared to many other local photographers. We would definitely recommend them to anyone else we knew getting married.
Kansas Memories was a wedding nightmare for us. We booked them at a bridal show for a really good deal, but it wasn't worth it. They had not contacted me for consultation as they said they would so two weeks before the wedding I spent a whole week trying to get a hold of them , and when I finally did I found out that a week before the wedding that they had still not assigned a photographer to my wedding. They had overbooked our day and had to ask a friend of the owner if he would shoot for the day. They were fine the day of the wedding, but since we hadn't met before hand, they didn't know what we had in mind and we missed a few important shots. Then after the wedding they said the pictures would be posted on their website two weeks after, and a month and a half later they were still not there. I would not recommend them at all.
This was a great place for a large group of people! My wedding had 250 in attendence and were all able to hang out in the venue together! The decore was fantab and the service was great! The price was perfect for a fun night after a great wedding!
Overall, very happy with our photography. Very creative with their shots and they didn't miss anything going on with 2 photographers catching it all. They were also very flexible with us...we live out of town and were limited on when we could come in for planning, but it all went smoothly.
Kansas Memories was a HORRIBLE nightmare! We booked them because friends of ours had used them and their engagement pictures were beautiful! Well... we should have waited to see how the wedding went!
We had no problems with our engagement pictures at all. BUT, the wedding was a nightmare. First, they showed up 30 minutes after they were supposed to. Luckily, we were just getting our hair done, so we let it slide. They also had not gotten back to us ahead of time to consult with us on our wishes. When we got ready to do our formal pictures, we had to call up the people we needed and pose them ourselves. They had no idea how to do this! (And we have since opened our own photography business because we KNEW we could do better!)
After the wedding, we were told our pictures would be online in 2 weeks. It was more like 2 months!!! Then we were not impressed with the images. All of the ones taken in the church were too dark. My husband even tried using Photoshop to lighten them, and they were so dark that even that didn't work!
THE WORST PART... We have been married for over 6 years, and we still never got everything we ordered. When we contacted them about it, they always had an excuse (it's on the way or it must have gotten lost in the mail). We finally got our preview album, 2 parent albums, and the CD of images. We are sill missing a parent album, prints, and being able to use the $400 of credit we had toward an actual album. We asked for a refund and never received a response via phone or e-mail.
This was the only negative experience we had during our wedding. It just makes me sad because the photos are all I have to remember the day. Luckily, we have a lot of friends and family that took pictures! I would NEVER use this company again!
They were HORRIBLE.
There were suppossed to provide photography and a DJ.
I should have switched from their service entirely.
The "Consultation" with the photographer, to discuss times, pictures I want, etc. Was on the phone. She called me while I was grocery shopping... I told her it wasn't a good time and she said "Oh that's fine this won't take long."
The result? We missed out on important pictures and she didn't have a clue what was going on at the wedding.
The DJ... I called them once every other day for a MONTH leading up to my wedding trying to figure out when we were going to meet with someone to arrange songs... 5 days before my wedding I GAVE UP.. called another DJ... they were GREAT... canceled KM's DJ service... the kicker. THEY WOULDN"T GIVE ME MY DEPOSIT BACK! Because I canceled!!! They did not uphold their part of the contract by never returning my calls and arranging a meeting. How were they planning on knowing what songs to play???
The photographers were very rude to me and my wedding party. They expected us to take pictures in the open sun (Bad for pictures on SO many levels... including we couldn't open our eyes... most of the pics we are all making faces because the sun was so bright).
I got married in a rose garden and you can't tell from the pictures.... they are some nice lilies and irisis in the pics thought (ugh)
During the reception I personally had to go find them to tell them we needed pics of the toasts, cake cutting, certificate signing and dances!
They came to me while I was eating at my reception to collect the balance.... that should have been done before or after the wedding... it was rude and unprofessional.
When I reviewed the amount I paid for them it was more than I ordered. They charged me for things I did not receive (Like a signiture board).
When I called the owner, Ryan, to ask for my money back (only on the parts they over charged me and the deposit for the DJ), he said he'd never had any problems with other brides and wouldn't give me any refunds.
Personally, I don't care if they have a 100% satisfaction rate before me... they messed up with ME.
DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. Just don't do it.
I was not impressed with the quality of my photos, I did not meet the photographer until the day of the wedding and half the formal shots have eyes closed or people looking away from the camera
Great before wedding and day of. Not very responsive after and took a long time to get wedding photos and video.
