Karin is just so wonderful to work with. Not only is she a skilled seamstress but she is a great listener. Unfortunately, Karin will no longer be doing alterations only but she does have her own designer collection and she also does general gown design.
I had bought my wedding dress in 1995 during an engagement that didn't pan out (Thank the sweet Lord!!) It is a Private Label by G dress purchased at Bridal Impressions in Toms River, NJ. My mother had it preserved and kept it in the attic all this time. When my DH and I got engaged, Mom brought it down and we checked it out. I still really loved the dress, my FI approved (very important!), but it needed some updating (POOFY Sleeves! UGH!) Based on recommendations from the ladies of the knot, I brought it to Karin Yngvesdotter for alterations. She is a dream. I think I may have been one of her last alterations jobs, she is now doing her own designs exclusively. Karin did beautiful work on the dress, transforming it from a questionable early 90's poof-a-thon to an elegant 3/4 sleeve ballgown-unique with detail just not seen on current designs. I highly recommend Karin, her fabulous personality made her my favorite vendor to work with and her wedding dress designs are really gorgeous. If you are looking for a custom dress-give her a call!
I am so glad I found Karin before she stopped doing alterations. Even though she is concentrating on her own designs now, I feel I still need to give her a great review. She is incredibly talented and kind, she made the fitting process (and oh my god was it a process) a far less painful experience than what I imagined. She was so attentive to detail and really listened to my needs. Not to mention listened to my gripes, body woes, nervousness about perspiration and daily affirmations to work out 6 hours per day (which never ever happened). She did a magnificent job on my dress. You would never know it was touched by anyone, like it somehow just dropped from wedding dress heaven in this perfect form. A million thank-yous to Karin for being a consumate professional and a joy to be around!
I cannot say enough how fabulous Karin is. Her designs are fabulous, her personality is wonderful. She is wonderful at alterations and can transform your dress if necessary.
I cannot recommend her services enough.

At the age of seven, Karin was attending sewing classes and starting to create and design clothing. By the time she was fourteen, she began an apprenticeship with a master tailor that solidified her interest in couture fashion and nurtured her natural talent for design and dress-making. At sixteen, Karin began offering couture garments made to order at a small formal wear shop she operated out of her parents’ house, in her home town.
Four years later, looking to broaden her already formidable knowledge, Karin moved to New York, where she worked for over ten years as a designer, head designer and design manager for several esteemed design houses.
While Karin enjoyed her exposure to the fast-paced New York fashion industry, she found herself missing the intimacy of the boutique and couture environment. So, in 2000, Karin reinvented herself and founded Karin Yngvesdotter Couture, a company that specialize in made to order couture bridal and formal wear.
Karin is also a part time Professor at the Pratt Institute of Design, where she has the opportunity to share her knowledge with the new wave of young designers.
In 2002 she launched her own collection of wedding gowns. Her collections are replete with the distinctive cuts, elegant embellishments and fanatical attention to detail that captures her European sensibility. The unique patterns and subtle accents of her bridal gowns are the very essence of couture and they embody Karin's singular approach to dressmaking. Understated garments of distinction that accentuate the unique personality of the individual, never overpowering it.
She still continues to make custom made wedding dresses. Unlike some designers of her stature, Karin attends to every client personally, regardless of size or budget. From the initial consultation to the final fitting, Karin brings all of her creative energies to bear to realize her client's wishes. The modest, intimate setting of Karin's studio, is reflective of the serenity of much of her portfolio.
