Reviews for Kelly Paper Store

Overall, I was expecting something more. They didn't have a good selection of flat cards. I also noticed that even though I was looking through the same company's paper, the color between the envelopes and paper were noticeably different. Thus, I chose to stick with the prepackaged flat cards with inner and outer envelopes by Williamhouse. Those were moderately priced.
I also bought prepackaged blank thank you cards for about $13.00 by Paramount.
They didn't have small invitation inserts so I had to make a separate trip to Paper Source in Pasadena to purchase them.
I wish this place had more invitation things. Unfortunately, the pre-made invitations are heinous. Don't expect too much from this store. For what I purchased, I feel like I got a good deal. However, I can't say that I am 100% pleased with my DIY invitations. If I could have done this process over again, I would have just purchased them from a designer.

Amazing people. I did my invitations myself, and everyone thought they were so gorgeous. The stock came from kelly paper, they have great selection. they're very friendly & attentive. they had 250 of everything i needed except one item of which they had 200. so they had it picked up from their SF store and fed ex'd to my house overnight since i had to get it all printed that weekend. No charge to me. the guys there were all very nice.

I had the worst experience of my wedding-planning at Kelly Paper in SF. I went in looking for a specific paper for our DIY Thank You notes to coordinate with our wedding invites and when I asked for a sample book to flip through, they informed me that they don't have one! What kind of paper store doesn't have a sample book? Even Pearl and Flax have sample books, and they aren't even paper specialists.
Undeterred, I asked whether they carried a specific paper that our invites had been letterpressed on, since I thought our printer had obtained it there--then the sales associate proceeded to yell at me, tell me that the paper wouldn't work, and question me as to why I would attempt to DIY my thank you notes if I had used a printer for the invites. It was unbelievable. She clearly had some sort of issue with me or had completely gone off the deep end. I have never in my life walked out of a store due to flat out rudeness, but I turned on my heel and left Kelly Paper without another word. I will never set foot in there again.
Nightmare!

I purchased paper from Kelly Paper in Pasadena in two colors: 80# classic linen Augusta Green and Classic Natural White. Ribbons were purchased at Michaels. I also purchased fabric cagome paper, which looks like woven bamboo, from Swains Art Supplies in Glendale to embellish the main invitation a little. The invitations were definitely a labor of love with all the time and energy we spent on assembling them, but well worth it for the compliments we received.

Kelly Paper have a wide selection of paper but most are in different shades or white or ivory (think business stationery), and you buy by the ream. Sample sheets are also available for purchase. They are not big on fancy paper, but recently they got a shelf of metallic paper. The folks there are nice and helpful so they can help you find what you are looking for. You can also order custom cut paper or paper not current available on the shelf and they can get it for you the next day. Prices are great when you buy by the ream.
About Kelly Paper Store
Originally a family business (run by the Kelly family of course), Kelly Paper was sold in 1986 to private investors. This is also the time they started serving larger customers.
Somewhere along the line, it looks like they've hit up the internet as well. You can now order your paper products (and wedding invitations) online. The site could use a little bit of work, so you might want to at least check out the wares in person.
Their brick and mortar store layouts can be likened to a smaller version of Costco or Sam's Club, but this warehouse specializes in paper. It might be intimidating at first, but with a little effort and elbow grease, you might just find (or make) that perfect wedding invitation.
