Leah was phenomenal - she has an amazing eye for finding spectacular and memorable settings for the shots, and has a knack for catching the most touching spontaneous moments. She was very easy to work with and made sure ahead of time that she knew exactly what we wanted, and then delivered it in a way we never would have expected. Thanks to her, all the wonderful feelings of our best day ever have been expertly captured so we can enjoy them for years to come. Thank you, Leah!

Leah is truly amazing! She is so friendly and easy to work with. Her pictures are works of art and she got them back to us within a month of the wedding. I cannot say enough good things about her. We are looking forward to working with her again.

To say that Leah is talented is truly an understatement. She not only has a technical appreciation for her work, but her craft is very artistic.
I felt incredibly comfortable and confident in Leah's capabilities within the first few minutes of meeting her. My fiance met her for the first time when we had our engagement photos, which we were both naturally nervous about. Leah's fun and laid back attitude put us at ease immediately and we had a blast. The pictures came out beautifully. The range of emotions and moods that she caught in an hour was stunning.
On our wedding day, Leah was early and with her fantastic second shooter, Nat. They captured every single detail -- every tiny aspect about the day was beautifully captured. We did not take a lot of formal shots, but Leah knew who the close family members were and captured some priceless shots of our parents, grandparents and siblings. They were both there until the bitter end, missing no detail along the way.
Did I mention the turn-around time? We received our pictures faster than anyone I have ever spoken to!
If it sounds like I'm cheerleading for Leah, it's because I can't imagine a better perspective on our day. For the most important day of our lives, I'm so happy we chose L. Hewitt Photography, and I would absolutely recommend to anyone.

I am so pleased with the photos that Leah provided. She was so very open with communication before the actual date and she always responded to my emails and phone calls in a timely manner. The end results are everything I had ever dreamed of. Highly recommended! I want her to come back and photograph our one year anniversary.

Leah has done two shoots for us now-a maternity shoot and a newborn shoot-and we are beyond thrilled with the results! Her style is unique and exciting and her turn-around time is phenomenal. Leah has always been very responsive and the quality is second to none. We highly recommend LH Photography to anyone!

I looked long and hard to find a photographer for my wedding. I wanted a particular look, and I hate (HATE) stiff, posed wedding photos. I came across Leah's profile on this site, then checked out her website and fell in love with her photos. Her prices seemed a little high to my partner and I, but they weren't outrageous compared with other photographers. Once we met with Leah in person, we hit it off immediately--during the meeting we were quoting Family Guy and cracking up.
Throughout the planning process, Leah responded to all my emails almost immediately, and was very flexible. She was incredibly thorough regarding the venue and what i wanted. By the time the wedding came, I felt like we were friends. The day of the wedding she kept me calm (no easy task) and happy, and got amazing photos. When the processing was done, we had 950 photos, and they were all lovely. She captured EVERY essential moment, and beautifully. After seeing the photos, my parther (the skeptic) said that Leah had been worth every penny. I totally agree. She cares a great deal about the end product and making your wedding photos gorgeous. I couldn't be happier.

We met with Leah almost a year before our wedding and connected with her right away on a personal and professional level. That's why it pains us to have to write a review like this.
We worked with Leah on our engagement shoot, which came with our package, and we had a great time. The photos came back promptly and we were pleased with them.
When the wedding came around, Leah was a bit flustered and kept forgetting what time things were supposed to happen, but she and her second shooter did good work with both the formal and the candid photos. She posted a few previews right away for us to see, and we were very happy with how they looked. She told us that we would have our photos and our album 6 weeks after our wedding.
Right around 6 weeks later, just before Christmas (12/20/11), we touched base with Leah about when our pictures would be ready. She told us that it would be another week or two, and that time frame was fine with us. We understood that because of the holidays, things might be pushed back a bit. After not hearing from her for nearly 3 weeks, we got in touch with her again to touch base (1/8/12). She got back to us two days later to let us know that she had uploaded our pictures to a gallery for us to view.
We waited another 2 weeks (1/25/12) and got in touch with Leah again, asking politely when the DVD with our pictures would be ready. She did not respond. Three days later (1/28/12) we wrote an e-mail that was considerably less pleasant, as we were getting very frustrated. We had not yet received the DVD or the album, and it had been two and a half weeks since we had had any contact with her whatsoever. She responded a week and a half later (2/8/12) with a very conciliatory e-mail, apologizing for not having made us "a priority," and offering up several excuses (it was the busy season, an unnamed medical diagnosis, etc.). She offered us a $50 credit for prints (which, we were made to understand later, we had already paid for through our contract), and expressed an interest in meeting soon. We understood that she may have been busy, but all it would have taken was an email explaining that she had other things going on. What was frustrating to us was the lack of contact.
A week or so later (2/16/12), she sent us what looked like a sample page or two of a photo album. We weren't very impressed with the layout, as it looked like something that could have been thrown together in a couple of minutes. We had confirmed a meeting with her 4 days later, on 2/20/12, but the day before the meeting, she e-mailed us, said she had the flu, and strongly hinted that we should reschedule our meeting, or do it remotely, or something like that. A week later, we were still trying to help her with designing our album (which once again, did not look very impressive, or like any time at all had been spent laying it out).We emailed Leah to tell her what we were looking for and ask questions about changing the layout but she did not respond.
About 3 more weeks later (3/19/12), Leah contacted us to ask for what text we wanted in our album. She claimed that she was going to wrap up the album 3 days from then, on 3/22/12. For reference, had the album been wrapped up then, that would have been about 19 weeks after our wedding, instead of the 6 we had been promised in our contract.
After 3/20/12, we didn't hear from her again until we sent her another e-mail more than three weeks later (4/14/12), requesting a hard and soft copy of our contract. At this point we were getting fed up, because it was already more than five months after our wedding and we had not yet gotten our pictures. At that point she appeared to panic, sending us several e-mails on top of each other, and calling us a couple of times. We did not answer the phone, because we didn't want our frustration to get the better of us.
When we made clear to her how unhappy we were, she immediately offered a full refund, minus what she paid her second shooter. This was obviously a better result than not getting anything at all, but it made us both feel that Leah had never really intended to treat us as a priority, and that even at this late date, she had not even come close to finishing the work she had been promising us for months. She didn't protest that the album was almost done, she didn't ask if we could work things out, nothing. She just jumped straight to a refund. All we wanted were the services we had paid for. We asked her if we would still be able to order prints should we want them, and she told us that the $50 credit was on the website and we would still be able to get those prints. When we followed the link she had sent us, however, our photos were no longer there. Not only did we not get the services we asked for, but we now have only a couple photos we ordered at our own expense immediately when...

Leah is amazing! She did both our engagement shoot and our wedding and we're extremely happy with the pictures she took. She's very detail oriented and took BEAUTIFUL pictures that we'll treasure forever.
We highly recommend her.

Leah was a great photographer - professional, flexible schedule, and a really fun personality! Highly recommended!

Leah is fantastic! Totally unassuming, fun, and quirky behind the camera, yet the pictures she gets are outstanding. She blended in like she'd known us for years by the time she shot our wedding, and as a result photos came out much more natural than I would have ever expected. Definitely the perfect blend of fun, elegant, and professional -- which is clear from her photos!

Last summer, my boyfriend and I had a vintage-inspired (think Mad Men!) photo shoot with Leah. I have forever wanted to do something like that. Then, I came across some of Leah's pictures online and decided that she was just the right photographer to get it done.
Leah's response to my suggestion for a themed photo shoot was immediate and enthusiastic. She made lots of great suggestions ranging from outfit-related ideas to helping me pick the right hotel for our photo shoot and bringing some of the props. Additionally, she found a great hair and make-up artist for me, with whose work I could not have been happier. On the day of the photo shoot, Leah printed out and brought all the pictures that I had sent her before, which captured the mood of the photo shoot that I wanted to create. Leah then built an inspiration board with those pictures right in the hotel room. Leah also took a lot of care in adhering to the concept of the photo shoot that we had discussed.
Before the photo shoot, I was slightly nervous that I would not be able to relax which would reflect poorly on the quality of the pictures. Leah, however, made the whole experience very easy and enjoyable. In fact, even my boyfriend later commented on how much fun he had during the photo shoot. The pictures came out great and I am very happy about my decision to ask Leah to be our photographer!
I am now thinking about having another photo shoot with Leah, for which we have already started developing a concept. I cannot recommend her enough - especially to those couples who are interested in creatively styled fun photography.

We used Leah for both our engagement session and our wedding and we are very pleased with the results. My husband and I prefer more artistic & candid photos then typical "formal portraits" and that's exactly what we got for both sessions. Leah was very responsive to all of my email questions and she had great previews to us within 2 days after our wedding. The photos are everything we could hope for! We would highly recommend Leah for anyone looking for a great, artistic, and easy to work with photographer.
GUEST

The preview photos are beautiful and she works well with natural light (little to no post processing). I am still waiting on the final photo disc but am looking forward to seeing the rest.
I did have a problem with how long it took to arrange people for photos. With that job, you need a big voice. This photographer was not good at directing people which led to fewer photos because each shot took a long time to set up. That is why I gave the lower rating for the professionalism.
Now that I have the photos I wanted to mention how happy I am with the them...especially the wedding party formals. They turned out great despite the coordinating issues. There was a camera malfunction during the ceremony (unfortunately for us) so those photos are lacking a bit, but they were taken the best they could at the moment. We did get a discount due to the issue and we are very appreciative. I would recommend L. Hewitt Photography but for a smaller wedding or event.

I'll take a look at the process and see where I can improve. Thanks for the feedback!

I must say that I was super excited when I stumbled across Leah's website. Her photographs were amazing. I wanted very special and unique memories to look back on for our wedding day. I have to admit that Leah's work is stunning and she gave us exactly what we were looking for. She has a very special talent. Our wedding day turned out to be a rainy one, beautiful nonetheless but it caused a slight problem since our ceremony and pictures were scheduled to be outside. Not that Leah had any control over the weather, I thought it was very nice of her to offer to have us come back for another photo shoot. Leah was willing to take additional time so we could have the pictures we desired. I did decline her offer because I wanted to remember our wedding day for what it was, even if it was a rainy one. With that being said, I truly believe that Leah has a very special talent and her pictures are certainly unique and beautiful. I would definitely use Leah again if I was ever in need of a photographer and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for stunning photos. Leah went above and beyond for our day. Overall, my husband and I were very pleased with her work and she was a joy to work with!

Leah was awesome!!!! My wedding was on the beach in Texas. It was her first time visiting Texas at that time. So, to familiarize herself with the surroundings apparently she was up scoping out the beach and figuring out the best shooting angles at 5am. How do I know this...well, my husband who was my fiance at the time was so excited :) he couldn't sleep so he and his friend were at the beach at 5am that morning and they saw her. He thought it was sooo awesome. I loveddddd my pics.

Leah was a joy to work with! From the moment I met her, I felt instantly at ease with her. I had a unique situation where I was living in Hawaii but getting married in Maryland, and so even though it was many months between first hiring her and then actually talking to her again closer to the wedding, she still made herself available to answer any questions as soon as I got to Maryland. On the wedding day she was so patient and fun with all of us while she took pictures. Her excitement was contagious and so my husband and I were up for anything she proposed. We even climbed up into a tiny elevated old building for her because it was so easy to trust her vision! She sent us an online gallery of some of our pictures the day after our wedding, which was amazing, and all of the pictures were in the gallery within I think a week! The photos were unique, creative, modern, but then she also made sure to do the formal poses for the parents : ) She even went back and edited a bunch of the photos for me so that they would have the "vintage' feel I wanted. The only thing I regret was that Leah nor myself remembered to take photos of my mom and me, which I had made a point to tell her I wanted beforehand. Our wedding day was quite rushed though, so it's understandable. Everyone loves our pictures though, and we get compliments all the time!

Leah Hewitt is amazing!! Her shots for our wedding are everything we could have dreamed of and more! She was so generous and kind and really got us right off the bat. When the sun set early on our wedding day, Leah generously scheduled us an extra session a few days later to get more daylight shots in. She is extremely kind and funny, generous and flexible. Her heart comes through in all of her work - she is, hands down, the perfect choice for a wedding photographer. I absolutely couldn't recommend her more highly!

After beginning my search for a wedding photographer, I was shocked at the prices I found for the type of pictures I wanted. And then I stumbled onto Leah's portfolio. I loved the pictures and the price was just right. I don't think the saying "you get what you pay for" applies here because we got a lot more than we paid for. Leah was easy to work with, receptive to any and all our requests and the finished product was outstanding! We highly recommend her!

Leah was absolutely wonderful. She arrived at our site way earlier than planned in order to scope out the place and be fully prepared for our day. She was flexible and open to our ideas about pictures. While we haven't gotten all of our photos back, the previews that we have saw are breathtaking. I would definitely work with her again for other events where a photographer is needed.

Tim and I were so fortunate to meet Leah when we first started looking at venues for our wedding. We bumped into her at one of them and she gave us her business card. We didn't think too much of it until we looked at her website. We were amazed at the quality of her photos- they were classy but so artistic and not boring at all. We definitely wanted a photographer who would take the formal photos (that were really important to our parents) as well as some more creative, inspiring, fun photos that truly reflected our personalities. We completely lucked out with Leah. We met her for our engagement shoot before the wedding, which worked out well so we could get to know each other. Although we started the shoot in a completely different neighborhood, Leah was willing to walk a good mile or so to our house so we could grab our dogs and take some photos with them too!
Before the wedding, we met with Leah to go over photos that were important to us as well as the ceremony/reception timeline. The following week, Leah even met us at our venue to do a walk through and get some ideas for photos so we wouldn't waste too much time looking for good places to shoot before/during the wedding. She came up with some AWESOME ideas that we used and were so happy we did. The photos turned out amazingly well. I have received so many compliments on our wedding photos and how they are just the right mix of classic elegance and free spirited. Leah took the time to really get to know us and our personalities before the wedding and I believe that really shines through in our pictures. She will definitely be our go-to photographer as long as we live near Baltimore!

I used Leah for my engagement photo session, my wedding photographer was not available at the time, and I had a great idea and needed a photographer fairly quickly. Leah was extremely responsive through email and was pleasant to work with. But once we received our photos back in an astonishing quick turn around of less than 12 hours both my husband and I were less than pleased. This is what we found to be wrong with our photos once we had a professional review our pictures: There were blown highlights on over HALF the photos (that is the white part of the photo that has no detail due to the "photographer" overexposing that part of the photos), and the terrible composition of the photos ( She hid us BEHIND tree bushes for our engagement photos!!!) She tries to compensate for plain mundane photos by over photoshopping ever single photograph and over saturating them. If you notice in many of her group shots under the Hirsch gallery the back ground is all blow out white that reason you can't see the background is because she doesn't know how to set her exposure and blows out the photo. Needles to say after many emails back and forth I was able to receive a 50% refund of the session fee, to say the least this was after she wanted to offer a 10% refund. Please beware I would hate for the most important day of your life to be ruined by the pictures!!!! She is correct and offered to do a re-shoot I said that would be fine and that i would like my pictures taken with our dogs in Old Town Alexandria because thats were we live, she was not up for driving all that way and wanted to meet at so Rose Garden more convenient to her, our dogs were not allowed and personally if I am the client, and you advertise that you are a Washington DC photographer and you live in Baltimore and are unwilling to travel for your clients why would anyone want to do a re-shoot.

I did not shoot Heidi's wedding, just a couples session, but it bothers me that Heidi walked away disappointed. Overall I am a little perplexed by her response. I thought the photos were lovely, and would happily show them to anyone interested in booking me. She did not have specific complaints when requesting a refund, aside from not liking the way she looked. I offered a re-shoot instead of a refund, and 15% as a courtesy. She agreed to do it, and then cancelled suddenly.
I work in the spirit of cooperation, I don't know why Heidi said I wouldn't travel to her, I go to Alexandria often. I have correspondence to her saying I can. I am willing to work with clients, even if that means going the extra mile. I have worked with many, many people who attest to that - - including the Hirsches in Heidi's review (in Jeanie and Dylan's review of their photos - they'd be willing to fly me out to California to work with me again).
My only suggestion would be to review a photographer's portfolio to make sure their style is what you want before booking. I'm sad things turned out this way, but I wish Heidi and her husband all the best.

Leah is by far the most accommodating photographer I had the pleasure working with. We had a tight deadline, but not only did she meet with us within days after first contacting her, but she completely edited our images in the same day of the shoot. The images came out great, perhaps even better than expected. I would highly recommend you inviting Leah into any area of your life that should include photography. Her upbeat personality and creativity makes her a joy to work with!

Leah was such an unexpected blessing on the day of and leading up to our wedding. She was a pleasure to work with and made the planning and the day of a little less hectic. She is a complete package, which is very difficult to find. She is responsible and reliable with skills all rolled up into one. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect Photographer. She is artistic as well as very logical in the way that she takes pictures. She has a wide variety of skills in that she can do formal and photojournal while incorporating her artistic talent. She definitely has an eye for beauty and capturing the special moments. She thinks out of the box and yet still gives you exactly what you want. She is a gem! - One of a kind! Thank you so much for capturing the day with such beautiful pictures! I hope to take future pictures with you! Even if I have to fly you out across the country to California! :D

We loved working with Leah! She was super helpful and amazingly fun to work with! All of our guests loved talking with her. In addition, she got beautiful shots of everything we wanted and got the prints to us in a timely manner.

L. Hewitt Photography photographed our wedding. Beforehand, we got all of our questions answered, were able to voice what styles we liked, and met Leah personally. She came to all parts of our wedding day--from girls getting ready at the house to the venue and reception. The group was so comfortable with Leah around--it was almost like she was a part of the wedding party!! When we got our photographs back from Leah (in a well-thought out package with everything from a note to a disk of prints, wrapped in beautiful package) we were blown away with all of the shots! Everything about each shot was beautiful--from the posed to the candid--everything was very artistic and captured the beauty of our day as well as the people involved. Throughout the shots, Leah offered great advice: instead of pulling and pushing a person to the "perfect place" she advised and informed us on the best ways to stand--but really let us be the leaders.
Leah took it upon herself to really make sure the once in a lifetime day was captured with feeling and beauty (before, during, and after the event).
We got married in April 2010 and are STILL getting compliments on all the beautiful shots! I cannot wait for another event to book with L. Hewitt Photography!

Extremely responsive from the first day. Leah worked well with my wife to find out what we wanted. Good sense of style and worked with us to fit it to what we wanted. Of course the free engagement session was great, we put them up at our wedding and our guests loved them. We got the wedding photos in a timely manner and enjoyed the candid shots a lot. Leah is really an artist. My wife and parents were very happy, we couldn't have asked for any better.
Leah is fantastic. She's organized, dependable, SO creative, and her photos are INCREDIBLE! HIRE HER!!
