Reviews for LA Dance Experience

I wish my fiance and I had followed the other couples' examples on this vendor and taken a private lesson. We thought we might learn more over a six-lesson series for east coast swing. Unfortunately, we didn't count on being required to rotate partners with the other students in the class. We hardly ever got to dance together.
Russell, the instructor, was energetic and a good teacher. But he taught at an excruciatingly slow pace -- it took us two sessions to cover a single 10-count combo -- and we rarely danced to music. Worse, the other men in the class were soooo creepy. I hated going. We stuck it out for three classes and then never returned. It was money down the drain.

We had a great time at LA Dance Experience. They cater to people who may not have a lot of dance skills, like my fiance. Mireille was our instructor. She's sweet and patient and really takes the time to break things down so the dance was easy to learn. She also kept things like the length of my dress, the height of my heels, the size of our dance floor, and the surface that we'd be dancing on in mind in putting our first dance together. Overall we love the choreography and it looks great. We initially signed up for the 5 lessons for $400. Ultimately we decided to add on a 6th lesson a few days before the wedding. That was because we didn't practice enough on our own at home. I thought we got alot for our money and I'm glad that we decided to take the lessons. It was a fun part of the wedding planning process and something different for us to do together as a couple.

After our nightmarish dance experience with 3rd Street Dance (read my review), my fiance and I were about to forgo dance lessons altogether. We decided in the end to give one more studio a try. I called LA Dance Experience and spoke with the co-owner. I let her know right off the bat that my fiance and I have two left feet so we need a patient instructor. She was extremely sweet on the phone and set up a lesson with Jackie. We had our first lessons Sept. 14th and LOVED it. There are some people who are great dancers, but horrible teachers. Jackie is a great dance and a great teacher. She taught us so many steps in one hour and never made us feel uncomfortable for tripping over our feet. Oh and she also asked important questions like what my dress was like and how my hair would be so that she can modify our routine. We loved it so much we signed up for the five hour session. Even though you may not have a "private studio" like 3rd Street Dance, you have genuinely wonderful people who care about how you will look as you dance together on your special day. Oh and another bonus? The owner called me Monday morning to see how the lesson went. Gotta love caring individuals like that.
