Reviews for Laura Bravo
Laura is a very talented seamstress. She can make pretty much anything you want and does a really good job. She is also very affordable. The BM dresses were $105 each which included her buying the material and all alterations. The only problem I had was the language barrier. Laura is more comfortable speaking Spanish and some information seemed to get lost in translation even though I had a friend help translate during our conversations. I would recommend Laura to anyone who wants to do their BM's a favor and get them cute, custom made, yet affordable dresses. I would also recommend that the Bride go with the first couple of BM's during their 2nd fitting so you can tell Laura and write down EXACTLY what you want. There was also some mix-ups with dates scheduled for fittings, etc. I gave Laura a 4 because she is so talented & I loved the way each dress fit the different BM's. Plan early and make sure either you or your made of honor stay on top of the scheduling & confirm several times.
while hunting for a dress, my bridesmaids and i liked watters' style #7415. however, it did not come in the color i wanted. i also loved the idea of a double hem in a contrast color as well as the underside of the sash in that same contrast color, so the custom route seemed to be the only answer. luckily, veroni2413 found laura and recommended her to me.
laura can make pretty much any formal gown from a few good photographs. on my first visit, i was impressed with the quality of the dresses she had in progress and hanging in her workroom. she was also about 30% less than a couple other seamstresses i had met with, so it was a no-brainer to give her a try. the dresses came out beautifully, especially since they were custom fit to each of my bridesmaids (except the out-of-town one, who sent me her measurements). she can get very busy in the summer months, so i would advise seeing her for the first time at least 4-5 months before your wedding so that you have time to shop for fabric and get your girls in to be measured.
Laura is very nice, and very talented. You show her a photo of what you want made, and she'll make recommendations regarding the type of fabric you should get, what details will look good, etc. I opted to buy my own fabric downtown to get an exact shade of emerald green, and she charged me only $70 per dress (each of my 4 BMs chose her own style, plus my mom had her dress made w/Laura) including the interfacing, zippers and some accent fabric she had to use since I wanted black sashes on all the BM dresses and forgot to buy it. Great deal.
I thought the quality was pretty good, too. Not perfect, but certainly good enough.
It's important to confirm and reconfirm dates and times for fittings. She ended up finishing my dresses two weeks after our agreed upon date, but still in time for the wedding. She does pull through in the end, but you may be stressed out in the meantime. If you can overlook this and know that in the end she delivers beautiful dresses, then you should definitely go w/her.
I was seeking out a seamstress to make dresses for my two Jr. Bridesmaids because of the gap in their ages (a very adult looking 13 year old and a 9 year old). It was very difficult for me to find dresses that made dresses for their two ages. Luckily my DOC Paola from Just Chic Events recommended Laura to me. I showed her a picture of a Vera Wang dress I wanted to tweak a little bit to make more age appropriate and she said it would be no problem. When we went for their first fitting, the dresses were so adorable and fit the girls perfectly. My two Jr. Bridesmaids LOVED their dresses and I did too. Laura gets busy in the summer months so it's best to call in advance if you know what style you like. Also her prices are very reasonable for the quality of work she does. And she also tries to be very accomodating in scheduling fittings and dress pick-ups. She's a great find if you want to do custom dresses for any of the girls in your party.
You get what you pay for... if your brides maids are on a budget like mine were she a good option but I didn’t like the quality. I also recommended calling her and conferring multiple times be for you have your girls go down for fittings... she might not have all of them done.
