Vows Floral Design Studio
Mary at Lawrence Gardens took the time to sit with us and get an understanding of what colors and flowers we like, and then customized centerpieces, ceremony décor (including arch and baskets), bouquets and boutonnieres, and even flowers for my hair. Her use of calla lilies, hydrangeas, roses, and stephanotis made our day even more beautiful than we could have imagined.
Mary was very helpful and my flowers were beautiful. She asked a lot of questions and really honed in on what we wanted. I only needed 2 bouquets and corsages and boutinniers from her and she didn't push when we said we were using fake flowers for the centerpieces and ceremony. I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and she basically copied it. She didn't incorporate one shade of calla lily that was in the picture, but I think she was trying hard to match my bridesmaid's dress, which she did beautifully. I'm not one to get upset over things, so it didn't bother me, but I would've liked that deeper shade in there, especially since it was in my invitations and ribbons. No one knew that difference except me, so I didn't fuss over it. She came right to our venue (it was only 5 minutes away) and dropped off the flowers. She even attached my grandmother's cameo necklace to the bouquet for me. I was very pleased with her services.
Mary and Paula are such sweet, professional, and knowledgeable folks to work with for your event. Not only were the flowers everything (and more!) that I'd hoped for, they were HALF the COST!! My bouquet was something I will always remember and I am so lucky to have such wonderful pictures to remember Lawrence Garden's fabulous work.
I swear I'm not one of those enthusiastic brides who runs around giving an "A++++++++++++++!!!!!" rating to all of her vendors- it's just that we truly got 5-star service and product from most of the folks we hired for our wedding.
Mary Lavoie and Lawrence Gardens are a perfect example of that- and even more so, because at no time did we even experience any glitches or problems with anything at any point in the process. From my very first phone call to when she delivered the flowers and decorations to the different sites and to my parents' house, Mary was attentive to every detail and enthusiastic about all of our input. And the flowers- I hope after I write reviews that this site will allow me to upload a picture. Just beautiful.
I have to be honest, at the beginning of the process, I had no interest in the flowers- I just wanted everything to look "natural" and "springy". We had met with 2 florists that I had seen at bridal shows before going to Lawrence Gardens (who some family friends had referred). Unlike the other florists we talked to, Mary didn't try to push any of her own ideas on us- and even more importantly, had suggestions when we asked for them. I know nothing about floral arrangements except that I had seen a lot of things I DIDN'T like, and Mary educated us and talked about a bunch of different directions we could go in.
After about a half hour of asking questions to learn what I did and didn't like, Mary pulled some things together on the fly, and actually had (what I didn't even realize, until I laid eyes on it) my dream bouquet already put together in the fridge, waiting for a bride later that day. We chose some other flowers to add to it and picked other greenery, but it was great to find the florist who was on my wavelength- especially when I didn't even know what my own wavelength was!
I do some beading, and Mary was thrilled about the idea of incorporating some of that into the centerpieces- as it turned out, because it worked so nicely with the feeling we were going for and the decor of the reception hall, we went for entirely floral-free centerpieces (that we created ourselves), and Mary had absolutely no problem with that, even though she could have made a lot of money talking us into flowers- she even stored them for us and set them all up at the reception hall! She also took some beach glass and shells and strung some vines around them to decorate the card table- which was once again exactly what we wanted, though I didn't realize it when we were meeting. We wanted to dress it up, but not with an arrangement, and she came up with the perfect solution.
At the very last minute (I'm talking, days before the wedding), we ran out of time and didn't get everything together for our ring bearer- Mary happily put another basket together for her similar to those of the flower girls so that she would feel "as official" as the others. She also put together floral sprays for the church doors (which we didn't realize would be allowed until a few days before the wedding) without batting an eyelash and really nailed the bouts, which the guys were concerned about because they didn't want anything at all feminine.
The flowers couldn't have been more perfect- and all the credit goes to Mary, truly. I wasn't even competent enough to describe what I wanted- but she was able to figure it out and execute the plan beautifully!
My flowers for my wedding were gorgeous. They informed me of what was in season and also delivered flowers to both my house and the church. The florist was even present at the church and was helping my fix the flowers that were in my hair!
