Reviews for Los Verdes Golf Course

My husband and I loved having our wedding reception at Los Verdes Golf Course. Jackie Lowe was a very gracious and friendly person to work with and made the planning for this event a breeze on our side. Everything was beautifully and professionally done and we wouldn't have changed a thing!

Los Verdes Golf Club is a spectacular venue for a wedding and reception. The setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean is lovely and the Terrace and Ballroom were perfect for our event. The staff was a delight to work with. They were so helpful in planning. They were responsive to questions and concerns. They were flexible in working through all issues. It was also a really good value. We highly recommend Los Verdes Golf Club.

We cannot say enough good things about Los Verdes Golf Course. Everyone we worked with (Jackie during planning, Tony the day of, and many others in between) was an absolute joy to work with. Trishta waited on us hand and foot during the day and was amazing. They were so pleasant! We did not think we could afford a "real" wedding but this reasonably priced venue gave us not only that, but an incredibly classy and beautiful one.
PROS:
-Location in upscale area of Rancho Palos Verdes
-Beautiful view on the drive in and from the grounds. (However, you can never control the weather. Thick fog at the beaches below completely covered the ocean on our wedding day -- but the sun was shining and the clouds stopped just below the golf course, giving our wedding an ethereal feeling of sitting atop the clouds.)
-Beautifully manicured golf course
-Incredible service and very responsiveness
-Ceiling draping is included
-No venue fee for reception
-Nice florals, vines and lighting on terrace
-Reasonably priced which more than makes up for the cons
-Includes two free rounds of golf and advanced tee time reservations for an even bigger group (not something you can usually do at this golf course)
CONS:
-The actual ballroom walls, floors, banquet chairs are older and not very luxurious. Because of this, we considered it mandatory that we drape the walls (an option offered through the venue or other vendors), get chair covers and lower the lights a bit. Turned out great!
-Terrace railings, parking lot feel very "municipal golf course", which this is. Not that big a deal for us. Looked great as the sun set.
To address some of the other concerns mentioned in reviews, this venue offers high-level planning and catering but is not your wedding planner! You will need to hire someone or assign a family member (as we did) for extra day-of coordination. Booking our wedding here was possibly the best decision we made during the planning process and we...

Jackie our catering manager:
Helped us to the highest degree. Coming in off the clock to let us set up early, continually sending us updated floorplans; head counts, budget sheets and etc. The staff was very professional the day of the wedding. We truly appreciated that we were given a chance to enjoy our appetizers and drinks while we were taking pics on the 15th hole. Overall we would refer anybody there for their wedding. The food was great, the room had capacity to seat our guests comfortably, the dance floor is massive, the views are obviously spectacular and the setting was pristine. We overall loved our day and it was worth every penny.

The staff at Los Verdes was very helpful, but let us do our own thing. We had a beautiful day.

All in all, I loved my wedding venue. It was beautiful and my guests had a lovely time. Jacqueline was very helpful and was there the day of the wedding to help things go smoothly.
There was just a few things that were negatives...but nothing major. They charged an additional $250 to use the bridal suite...which is not AIR CONDITIONED. So a nervous bride in the summer basically melts in there because there is no air. Also, I specifically requested that wine and beer be tray passed during our cocktail hour, however, that did not happen...only the one bar was open and there was a constant line...which I wanted to prevent by having the tray passed drinks. The last thing that bothered me was that the lights were not dimmed during the reception. I had to ask them to turn them down, and then somehow they were turned on again so I had to ask them to be turned down a second time!
Other than that, everything was very nice. =)

The venue was beautiful with a view of Catalina. Our consultant bent over backward to try to accommodate or various requests and attempts to keep cost down. She was patient and understanding as we negotiated what could be a very stressful time in our lives. I always left our meetings feeling happy and most importantly calm knowing that Jackie had everything under control. The day of the wedding went smoothly, if there was a hitch it was kept from me the bride. The banquet captain was amazing!!! The buffet went quickly and special diets were accommodated with a smile. She even checked on me to make sure I was eating. My husband and I would highly recommend the Las Verdes Golf Course.

I had the wedding of my dreams at Los Verdes Golf Course! My friends still talk about my wedding 1 year later. The view is stunning - which is what brought me here in the first place. The ladies in the office were so helpful, flexible, professional and super friendly! I was able to bring in my own caterer and had a full Asian 10 course meal. It was the first time the servers ever had to serve a wedding like this and there were no complaints. My wedding was such and amazing day, thanks to Los Verdes and Jacqueline!

They were extremely professional in all of our encounters, and you will love the view and atmosphere the venue provides, I just have to say I would be warned about some of the details.
They are very busy so most of the time, we didn't get a response without having to ask for one multiple times. We also got a call about a payment being due a couple of months earlier than it should have been, which they apologized for.
When an emergency came up, it was only 2 days after we paid and they refused to refund any portion of it. So we had no choice, we had to just make it happen so we wouldn't lose that huge deposit that was thousands of dollars. That I can understand, they can't just be flexible in this industry and I couldn't complain about that.
I would have overlooked all of the above if it wasn't for a few of the negatives from the actual wedding day. Your wedding is something you spend so many hours, days, weeks, months on planning, and you put so much of your heart into it... the things I trusted them to do didn't get done the way I specifically requested. The crew set the tables up quickly and didn't do what I asked, so the table numbers were just leaning on the flowers, which covered up the expensive jars I bought and some of the expensive flowers. Their projector wasn't very good so our slideshow looked very 8-bit unless you were directly in front of it, which most people weren't with the side-of-the-dance-floor table arrangement.
When I talked to them about this after the wedding, they didn't do anything to try and make up for it at all.
I have to say that all of our guests loved it... the view, the weather, the pretty golf course, the pretty drapes inside of the venue... but as a bride, you just can't trust that they will do what you ask and give you the wedding you planned.
I'm actually the most laid-back bride, all of my vendors got 5 out of 5 reviews and I was so happy with everything else! If you are also laid-back, you might...

It was great working with Jackie, we always had questions and or changes and she was always available to answer or accommodate us as needed.

The venue was beautiful and everyone was extremely helpful. Very responsive and very professional. I was only a little disappointed that they no longer offered the photos at the 13th hole, the iconic photo by the tree next to the ocean. The food was good for catering, I highly recommend the salmon with miso sauce.

The Best Wedding Venue!!!! My husband and I could not have been more happy with our choice in choosing Los Verdes. From the second we went to preview the venue, the staff was so kind and not the least bit pushy. They are incredibly flexible with your needs and wants. For the most part, Jordan was our contact throughout the process, and she was great! We are just middle class people, not wealthy in the slightest, and it was such a relief to find a venue that was beautiful and affordable. During and after the wedding, all our guests told us how beautiful everything was. We got married on a Saturday at about 5:00 on the grass. I was worried because some people told me that it gets really foggy. But the weather could not have been any better. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining. The view of the ocean was incredible.
The staff was so helpful and everything was so organized. It was such a beautiful day that we will never forget.

My husband and I got married here on August 28, 2011.
We picked this venue because we wanted to get married with the ocean in the background and that is exactly what we got. We got married on the 10th tee and it was so amazing and so picture perfect.
Yes, people were playing golf near by, HOWEVER no one seemed to notice and it NEVER interfered with our very special ceremony.
We worked with Jackie who was amazing. She always got back to us right away and really helped to work with us to make our special day PERFECT and just how we ever dreamed.
Yes we had to get ready in the bathroom, the room was a little dated and yes the food was so so. Others said the chicken was just amazing. The way I look at is that no one really eats at weddings. We also transformed that room into what we wanted it to be. The up-lights make the difference, and getting ready in the bathroom didn't bother any of us.
If we had to do it all again, we would NOT change a thing. The view is amazing and the price is beyond right. =)

I'm so glad I chose Los Verdes as the site for my wedding ceremony. I would have chosen them for the reception as well but there was no availability. Jackie Lowe was always so helpful and attentive and always returned every phone call. The staff was accommodating and genuinely interested in making sure our special day went well. The location also provides for very lovely settings for pictures. I would do it all over again!

Everthing and everyone was absolutely wonderful on our daughters wedding day..Joran from Los Verdes was the best of all..Had Debbie Collis do all of our centerpieces from Opps a Daisy..she was terrific..had Vox D.J.'s for the music..they were ok..not the best..The wedding dress came from David's Bridal..which was perfect..

We had our ceremony and reception here and I LOVED it! Everything ran smoothly. The only thing is that the ladies incharge don't do much the day of. We booked a wedding coordinator to do everything for us. The price was very great considering everything was included. I would recommend this venue to anyone =)
GUEST

It would have been nice to have an actual bridal room to get ready in, but I was okay with the set up they arranged. I thought that it was extremely nice and helpful that they had a person there to assist me; however, it would have been nice to have known that ahead of time, as I had arranged for one of my friends to get to the site early to help me into my dress.

Very nice location but poorly managed. The wedding coordinators are non-existent (the day of the event) and do not follow-through with basic matters/requests. They are too busy showing the site to potential clients even on the day of your event. lA bit run down: speakers do not work, restrooms smells, and they do not have a dressing area for the bride or groom. Los Verdes is absolutely horrible when it comes to having a contingency plan for the weather. Basically, no place to take pictures if it rains!

My friend had her wedding here and at first glance, I thought it was a great deal for the location and (I assumed) the quality. However, my fiance and I thought that the facilities were lacking and the food was terrible (salmon was fishy, beef was REALLY tough, salad was plain and sloppily put together). The only positive thing about this location was the beautiful view & gazebo, the bar package which included good premium selections, the hors d'ouevres which were generous in quantity, and the most important thing, the newly weds who were so happy and beautiful together. BUT, If you are looking to spend about $100 per guest in the same area, why not look into La Venta Inn. The food quality and the view is SOOO much more superior.
GUEST

The coordinator does not follow through with what she promises and no matter how many times you confirm the details of the reception the details aren't right. It's a beautiful venue that is horribly managed.

I love Palos Verdes and checked out all the different sites there. While many choose La Venta Inn, I did not like that the dance floor was separate from the dining area. I had plans for activities throughout the reception and thought that it would be inconvenient for guests to leave their dinner and come to the dance floor.
The Interpretive Center in PV also offered a gorgeous view, but I wanted to avoid the hassle of bringing in my own caterer, chairs, tables and everything else. Why deal with that when there are many other things to think about.
Los Verdes Country Club was perfect for what I was looking for. Stunning view of the golf course blended with the infinite ocean, gazebo, beautiful reception room with huge wood dance floor, great packages, amicable staff and even a DOC provided!
I would highly recommend looking into this site if you are looking for ocean views.

I also love Palos Verdes and wanted a beautiful ocean view. Trump was a bit too pricey. La Venta - the food is really awesome, but the site was too small and the space is broken up. Redondo beach historic library was really cute but not private enough (beach goers are strolling around right outside). So, Los Verdes seemed just right. It's definitely not perfect. I have to agree that the food is sub-par (although my guests argued it was pretty good). During our tasting, the beef was really dry and the bruschetta was soggy and plain, but the mashed potatoes were quite good. At our actual wedding, the mashed potatoes were only ok. I've heard other people say that they've been to multiple weddings here and the food has always varied from delicious to not so delicious. It seems they have a problem with quality control. But, really, how many people go to a wedding expecting 5 star quality? If you are, then you should go with New York Food Company (La Venta & Verandas in Manhattan Beach). Also, I do agree that their ballroom could use some updating, but you hardly notice once all the linens and decorations are in place. If you're looking for a site with a great open space, beautiful ocean view, and reasonable prices, you should look into Los Verdes. Despite the negatives, I was really happy with my wedding and wouldn't do it any differently.

Our ceremony was at the Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Like many brides booking their wedding at this site, I had difficulty finding an affordable reception venue. I called the places nearby, Trump National (wahaha, $$$), Palos Verdes CC, and other restaurants in San Pedro and Long Beach. I finally found Los Verdes CC and was extremely happy! They are very easy to work with, professional, affordable and on the wedding day, they were GREAT! We had Jennifer as our coordinator that day (someone who was unfamiliar with our planning, being that she didn't work there on the days we had gone). She was extraordinary! Everything went off without a hitch and I had nothing to worry about on our special day! That was worth so much to me. Los Verdes CC made our day WONDERFUL!

We had our ceremony at a church in Hermosa Beach, but Los Verdes was our reception location. We planned our wedding long-distance with help from local family and friends and booked this location based on their photos and impressions and availability of the locations, with the one big requirement being an ocean view. Being that I was unable to physically see the property until AFTER the first payment was due (about 6 months prior to our event) I was EXTREMELY nervous, but it turned out I didn't need to be. Overall the ladies at Los Verdes were very accommodating. We had a few unique touches/customization of the desert menu and they were pretty flexible in working with us on it. When I was unable to make it to one of the scheduled tastings due to living on the east coast, they allowed my maid of honor and myself to come up one weekend I was in California and do a tasting of the food they had prepared for that evenings event. When we ran into an issue with the availability of the specialty linens we had selected Amanda went back and forth on phone, email, and even went as far as mailing me samples of other options. The day of the wedding Wendy was great and brought me some of the hors d'oeuvres and drinks during pictures, as well as some for the bridesmaids. They also did the set up which was very detailed and did a great job. All in all I was very pleased with the end result and would definately recommend this location.

I recommend that you book this place at least a year ahead. It books up quickly! Los Verdes Country Club is gorgeous and the people who were there are amazing

The site was just what we wanted -- ocean view, not too hot in the summer, and a great dance floor. The day of banquet manager was wonderful and offered 'beverages' right before we walked down the aisle. She was reassuring and just what I needed at that moment. The gazebo and 14th hole (for photos) were great, and taking the golf cart for pictures was just the perfect way to have a little fun right after vows.
If you don't mind the bathrooms (not bad, just not beautiful) as a place to get ready since they don't have a changing room, this is a great place for people who want all the pluses of ocean bluff views but can't afford the Catalina Room. We had ours on a Sunday which also helped defray costs.
I recommend the services of Los Verdes Golf Course to make your Wedding Day that very special day you always wanted, that will be remembered and cherished by you and all your guests for many years to come. ~~ Angela Neik, www.calligraphybyangela.com Dallas Calligrapher
