We have never taken dance lessons before! Where do we start and how long do we need to take lessons to become decent dancers?
Learning to dance may seem intimidating for those who have never experienced a group dance lesson or private instruction before. Fear not! The experience with MADHATBALLROOM.COM promises to be a pleasant one! Jennifer is one of the most patient teachers and is one of the few certified instructors in the state and has been teaching couples like you for almost two decades, so you are in good hands!
To thoroughly prepare yourselves for your special day typically takes anywhere from 5-10 private lessons. A simple routine can be taught with an entrance and exit on and off the dance floor. The amount of step patterns you will learn depends on the couples' individual needs and the amount of time you have to practice in between lessons before your wedding day. (Plan at least 2 months before your big day to ensure ample learning time.)
Don't forget that, even though you are preparing for your special day right now, learning how to dance is a wonderful skill that can be used for the rest of your lives together! Many of your family and friends will also have weddings and parties you may be attending for years to come. Dancing is one of the most rewarding and fun-filled activity you can continue to learn and improve upon as you happily grow old together.
We have a special song picked out for our first dance, but don't know how to dance to it. How do we know what dance we should learn?
Once she hears the song you have picked, Jennifer can explain which dance(s) might work best for your choice and also apply her knowledge of the dances for the specific amount of space you might be working with at your reception. (Small dance areas call for dances that do not travel whereas large reception halls give the couple more dance choices.)
She can also take into account how many lessons you have alloted before your big day so as not to overwhelm you with a routine that may be too difficult to suit your individual needs. Because Jennifer has been doing this for so long, and because of her expertise, she has never had a song given to her that she didn't know multiple dances in which a couple could choose from. (Couples who may take lessons from a less educated source may be disappointed with their experience, and unfortunately decide not to dance at their wedding or never try to learn how to dance. Understanding the roles you both are to uphold is how we begin to learn this wonderful pasttime called ballroom dancing! During your lessons, you will be taught how to hold your partner correctly, how to move together as a couple, how to understand the music you are hearing and how to dance to it. Dancing can be the best pre-marital counseling out there! You will learn how to communicate with each other in a way you may never have had to do before. You will learn how to truly be a working team. You'll be in each other's arms and feel closer than ever, all while getting great exercise!
We would like to have our parents/family/friends enjoy learning with us as well, so the entire wedding party can dance at the reception together. How do we arrange this?
