Making the Moment Photography

My husband and I moved to the Cleveland area about four years ago, and
fell in love with the city. When we got engaged, we knew we wanted our
engagement pictures to be in downtown Cleveland. I called Brett and we
were able to meet him in his studio and after meeting him in person
and seeing his work- we knew we HAD to have him as our photographer
for both our engagement pictures AND our wedding. This was one of the
BEST decisions we made for our wedding! We are SO happy with our
wedding images and cannot say enough about Brett as a person and a
photographer!! Brett was able to travel with us to our hometown in NJ
for the wedding and got there a couple days early to scope out the
town- he was able to find locations that even my parents and I were
not aware of- that were absolutely stunning! He learned everyone's
name for the weekend which made things so personal and so easy! Some
of our groomsmen were a little bit crazy at times- but Brett handled
it like a pro and was able to get AMAZING images of them! The day of
the wedding was such a blur for me and my husband and getting our
pictures taken by Brett was the BEST decision because we were able to
piece our day together and remember all of the amazing moments we had
that day! Without such incredible pictures, Im not sure the experience
of the whole thing would be the same for us. All of our parents are so
grateful too and so happy with our pictures, which was also so
important to us! You will NOT regret choosing making the moment - they
are simply the BEST!!

As soon as we got engaged, the first thing I did was look into wedding photography, as it was the most important thing to me. I soon found Brett at Making the Moment and knew that there was no feasible other option for our big day, as nothing else could even compare. His portfolio speaks volumes and the images he produces are absolutely breathtaking. I am a pretty picky person when it comes to photography, and I didn't think the style that I was looking for was even out there, until I found Making the Moment. Communication before our wedding, during, and after was great. The images we received from our wedding were beyond our expectations and were not only well-taken, they were beyond perfect. I fell in love with Making the Moment when I first saw their website. They have a wonderful site with portfolios of the photographers as well as a blog not only showing their work but also giving little tips to help you understand several things about photography. Some of their blogs talk about how to plan your day (as far as photos) others talk about what you should look for in a photographer, I found it all very helpful before I even decided to hire them.

Their image quality is amazing and their approach is awesome if you love candid shots. If you're looking for a traditional photographer that will pose you for every shot and is no fun then go elsewhere. There are so many things that I loved about this company, but most of all is Brett. He's the owner and a photographer (an awesome one) and he is so friendly! After meeting him I knew that I wanted to go with them, he just makes you so comfortable! It's like you're instantly friends and he will do anything to help capture the moments dearest to you. We haven't received our wedding photos yet, since we just got married two weeks ago, but our engagement photos came out great!

A few things I really liked are:
*You get them for the entire day at one flat rate
*You get the rights to all of your photos (they give you a disk)
*They personally go through your photos and do any retouching necessary
*You can order a hand-bound book which they graphically design themselves.
*They back everything up several times to make sure your images are safe!

Also, they are wonderful about getting back to you if you have any questions. Brett is very responsive to emails and they have a neat client site to help keep everything organized. Honestly I don't think I have any complaints! Everything was great and I'm sure our images will come out wonderful!

I just wanted to add that since then, we have received our photos and albums and they are fantastic!! We are very please with the quality of their products. We even got entered into their Image of the Year contest and won 3rd place! :) Our parents LOVE their albums and everyone we have shown have been totally impressed.

My only complaint would be that a few images that we would have like to have had were not captured. This is more due to me not wanting to be pushy, so I probably did not stress some of the things that I wanted. I read so much about bridezillas that I was afraid to say much and sound controlling. Choosing Making the Moment to do our photos for our wedding day was one of the best decisions I made in the whole wedding planning process. Brett was great to deal with in the planning stages (both for the general photograph and the LiveBooth). He was awesome about calling and e-mailing right back and answering all of the questions I had as we figured things out. He is genuinely excited about your day and providing the best pictures possible. And our photographer, Benjamin, was awesome to deal with as well. He was great to talk to when we figured out the details of the day (and was as excited as Brett was about everything we had planned) and when the day finally arrived, he was amazing in person. He had an awesome personality and got along great with the wedding party. He was joking around with us (and rolling with the punches from my bridal party) pretty quickly after arriving at the salon to meet us. He was great at keeping us upbeat, but also finding a way to sneak in to take pictures when I least expected it (which I’m sure will result in the type of pictures I loved on their website). He was really good at keeping things moving along during the formal session at the church after the ceremony and then came up with some awesome set ups and ideas during the more creative session before the reception. Based on the general ideas he was relaying and the couple shots he showed us on the LCD on the back of his camera, I know that we’re going to get some amazing shots.

We also did the LiveBooth, which goes above and beyond any photobooth you might consider using. It was something we added on only a couple weeks before the big day, but it was worth every penny and I’m so glad we did it. Not only did everyone have a great time using the props (and being inspired/directed by the photographer Anna – who was such a blast – she even ended up joining a couple pictures since people liked her so much!), the pictures were up online on Monday morning after our wedding. It was awesome getting to see all the fun at the airport on our way out of town on our honeymoon – and also to get e-mails and texts from everyone telling us which ones they loved.

I can’t speak any more highly of everyone at Making the Moment and recommend them to everyone who might be getting married (or need any kind of professional photography) in the future.

Where can I begin? Brett at Making the Moment was the second photographer we met with and fifth or sixth wedding vendor we spoke with. From the very beginning, Brett treated us like old friends instead of clients. Our initial meeting was at a coffee shop (I distinctly remember Brett being VERY excited about a certain Pumpkin Spice Latte...) and it lasted close to two hours. I am still amazed at the quality of our wedding photos. We used Making the Moment photography for our Sept 2010 wedding. We wanted something fun & unique for our pictures. Photo's are something that lasts a lifetime, they link you into the memories of the day. We were so lucky to be able to book them for our engagement pictures from Brett & then our wedding with Jeff. These guys were open to thoughts ideas that we had. & they came up with some surprise's of their own. The pictures that we had seen from their previous weddings were just so different & unique. We wanted that! We got Fun & different, they captured so much of the wedding & personalities. We didn't want the traditional pictures. For the prices of the pkgs we right in line with other photographers- BUT, When you weigh the options the time the service the promptness, the quality there shouldn't be a question on who to work with. Making the Moment is amazing! My husband and I were married in September 2010. We booked Making the Moment in December 2009. The initial meeting with the owner Brett was great. He was extremely enthusiastic and made it clear how Making the Moment would capture our special day. He put us as ease immediately and the photo books he brought to show examples of their work were gorgeous.

My husband and I were not interested in a traditional wedding photographer. We wanted photojournalistic, moment capturing, spontaneous images from our wedding day. Making the Moment absolutely exceeded these expectations. Our photographer spent the entire day with us. The photos that resulted are amazing! We were blown away by the final product.

We also ordered a photobook from Making the Moment and while we have not seen the finished product yet, we are confident it will be amazing.

Great Service , Great quality, For not the same old wedding photography i would really recommend them. They give you wonderful unique photography. I love how they are with you all day to catch the moments between the big ones and that you get rights to all your photos so you can easily print what you want. From the moment I saw the portfolios online I was floored by the creativity and detail that was put into every picture. I immediately contacted the company to meet with someone and talk details. I got a response right away. We easily set up a day and time that was convenient for me, which is exactly how each meeting went (easy and flexible). Even though I knew going into the meeting that I wanted to book a specific photographer with Making the Moment, what really sold me was the professionalism, positive attitude and excitement for my day. Every time I met with them after that I really felt liked the center of the universe. I had such a fantastic experience working with them and such amazing photos to commemorate my day that several of my friends have booked/are planning to book with them in the future. I cannot recommend them more highly. There is no way that you will be disappointed with the service and attention you receive. I cannot wait for the opportunity to use their services again!!

Truly one of the best decisions of my wedding! I actually rearranged my wedding date to make certain that they could shoot the day for us! Brett was amazing and was always super easy to get a hold of for questions, etc. Vince was perfect! He actually drove into town the day before our wedding to scope out places to take killer pictures. That's above and beyond! I can't tell you how many people are raving about our pictures. And yes, even though it's nice to hear that from others, I can honestly say that I love EVERY picture (all 663 of them!)

Brett made everyone in the wedding party VERY comfortable. Our pictures are beautiful, we couldn’t have asked for better pictures. Brett was able to make our Lake Erie wedding look like a tropical destination. Everyone that sees the pictures always ask where we were and are shocked when I say good old Lorain Ohio. I would absolutely recommend Making the Moment!

If you are wondering why I waited a year before leaving my review, it is because it took a long time before we finally got a somewhat acceptable product and because still every time I look at my wedding pictures I find something else that disappoints me. In addition we are now sharing our pictures from Making the Moment Photography with others, and we yet to find somebody who was overly impressed with the photography.
My father recommended Brett Yacovella to me as a wedding photographer because he had done non-wedding related business with Brett in the past.
I met with Brett at a local Starbucks, and he brought one or two finished Storybooks for me to look at. But he referred me primarily to his website to see his work. Brett was very convincing, and after liking what I saw on his sight, I chose him to be my wedding photographer.
He was paid approximately $3480.00. We got 40 engagement images, which we really liked. In addition we got a full day with one photographer and a partial day with one equipment assistant. We got one large Storybook, 2 smaller ones for the parents, and 417 print quality edited digital images with copyright release.

As per contract it took over 3 months to get the images, I then had a little over one week to pick out the 300 that I wanted printed in our books. Our contract stated that we would be getting 300-700 images, I was a little surprised to only have gotten 417 images, since Brett had spent such a long day with us, and that 300-700 was such a wide range. Among the 417 images, 51 were of me and my bridesmaids at the hair salon, 2 were self portraits of Brett and only 13 of the actually ceremony, which was well over 30 minutes long. There is exactly 1 formal portrait of the entire bridal party of 13, and it’s not that great. The pastor only allowed the photographers in the back 4 pews during the processional and recessional, and in the balcony for the ceremony. Brett was made aware of this well before our wedding.
I had made thank you signs and was going to have a relative take some photos so that I could send out our cards promptly. At the church Brett told us he would be more than happy to take the thank you shots and get them to us within a week. When I got the early release images, Brett wanted me to order grossly overpriced thank you cards through him. Since I did not want to do that, I had to pay an additional total of $90.00 for 2 images. I thought it was quite disingenuous of him not to mention the charge when we discussed this at the church.
One of our photography sights was at a local college that most of the bridal party had attended. My husband asked Brett to take a picture of entire bridal party, but he refused.

I had a couple of requests/questions when I first got the digital images and based on Brett’s responses I did not feel comfortable bringing up any other issues, as he had been paid in full and I felt that pressing for a resolution would impact the quality of the final product.

Some of the issues we had, were 2 different pictures of groomsman with their eyes closed, family portraits with hidden faces and dark faces. Many pictures were taken directly against the sun or bright lights. Also we had told Brett in advance that we would be smashing cake in the maid of honor and best man’s faces. He captured that event, but failed to capture a single image of when they in turn smashed the cake in our faces.
He seemed to have also missed some other important moments. There are no pictures of; my bridesmaids and myself, groomsmen and my husband, me by myself, especially since I had a very interesting and unusual train. Brett got photos of my husband and his bridesmaid sister, but none of my groomsman brother and myself. His website showed many lovely images like the ones that I did not get.
BUT most unacceptable of all, were our Storybooks. First and foremost, the numbering of the pages was completely random. Some numbers were repeated, others were skipped, and they were printed in 2 completely different fonts. Colors were off and some pictures printed very dark. In order to fit some images into the book, heads were cut off. On another page with numerous pictures, one of the pictures only printed half way. To me it felt like the images were simply dumped into a template and printed randomly. Some pages were crammed full pictures and others had 1 or 2 plus a large white area. I could not believe that a business owner would release this as a final product.

I authorized my parents to follow up regarding these issues. 83 photos were re-edited, the 3 Storybooks were reprinted, and we were given a free large canvas of a family portrait. My 89 grandfather loved it, but others cringe when they look at it.

In the end, neither the photos nor the books were anything like what we expected, but we do have some nice images to remember the day - that said, in the future we would never use Making the Moment Photography for another event, or recommend Making the Moment Photography to others.

Just wanted to let you know how amazing the pictures are! We are THRILLED and you did such a great job of capturing our day for us! WE could not have asked for anything more and I cannot stop looking at them ha I am obsessed! We have gotten tons of compliments and now we will have our memories captured perfectly forever :) You do fantastic work !!

Dan and I received the storybooks on Monday, and they are amazing!!!! Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined that our wedding photos would be captured so beautifully! The storybooks are perfectly organized and offer a unique and contemporary style of design!!!
