We are thrilled to have had such a lovely Jazz band play at our wedding, September 2010. Margie Nelson was flexible, professional, and thoroughly stunned our guests with her amazing talent. The band brought such a wonderful element to our special day, it was a fun yet romantic and the absolute perfect touch to our afternoon, garden setting, wedding. After three months, we still have guests commenting on Margie's voice! Margie's song list is extensive and she was able to also accomodate our special requests with advance notice. Margie met with us multiple times before the event and we are ever so impressed. A big THANK YOU to the Margie Nelson Jazz Group, an excellent vendor for such an occasion.

They were just what we were looking for! Margie has a wonderful voice, backed up be a great band. They played a variety of songs for us and took requests before the wedding to make sure they could play the songs we wanted to hear. They created the perfect atmosphere for us and had everyone dancing! I definitely recommend them!

WHAT WE DO: The Margie Nelson Jazz Group specializes in swinging
popular standards and Latin Jazz plus pop, blues and rock for dancing if
you so desire!
We can be as small as a duo, but can expand to a sextet or octet
depending on your need and budget!

WHO: Margie has been a vocalist for over 10 years in the Santa Barbara
area. The Margie Nelson Jazz Group has performed at most local venues including the Bacara, The Biltmore, the
Coral Casino, the Lobero Theatre and SOho Restaurant and Music Club.

Are you an agency or a band?

What is the size of your band?

Large (6+ musicians), Medium (4-6 musicians), Small (1-3 musicians)

What music genre does your band play?

50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Acoustic, Blues, Classic Rock, Classical, Dance, Jazz, Latin, Motown, Oldies, Pop, R&B, Rock, Soul, Swing

Do you have liability insurance?

What is your band's usual attire?

Cocktail attire, daytime formal, semi formal or formal depending on request. We always dress professionally.

Do you offer live sample performances or CDs?

Yes. We have a 12 song retail ready CD available. We have many public gigs that prospective customers can attend.

Are you willing to learn songs that you do not currently know?

Yes. Up to three free of charge if they are familiar songs. There will be an additional fee for obscure songs.

How much time do you usually need for setup?

One hour is ideal.

How much space do you usually require?

Depends on the size of the band, we always visit the site beforehand and discuss the logistics with the bride/groom or wedding planner.

Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?

No.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?

Special lighting and extra sound equipment can be provided. We can accomodate special requests.

Do you usually emcee the event, or talk between songs?

Yes.

How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?

We have never found that to be a problem! Our designated emcee keeps things moving by encouraging audience participation, and our set list is carefully chosen specifically to include a wide variety of crowd pleasing tunes that gets people up on their feet!

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you need a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

We take a 10-15 minute break between sets. Usually three breaks for a four hour set. Meals are not required to be provided.

Do you play recorded music during your break?

Yes.

If one or more of the band members is unable to attend, what is your backup plan?

We have a large list of substitute musicians on call if this should ever happen. It hasn't happened yet!

What is your overtime rate?

$100 an hour overtime.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?

$.60/mile over 50 miles/vehicle

What is the required deposit to secure your services?

We require a 50 percent non-refundable deposit at least a month in advance of the event.
