Maryland Institute College of Art
We had our wedding reception in the old main building of the campus. The building is absolutely gorgeous. They allowed the wedding party to have access to the building all day to get ready and for pre-wedding pictures. Both the event coordinators that have helped us with our reception were great.
Parkhurst catering service is the college's catering company. The food was amazing and we had so many compliments! All the waiters/waitresses and bartenders were friendly and professional.
We highly recommend Maryland Institute College...
Not many people know that you can rent the facilities at MICA, but the staff is terrific and their venues are both beautiful and unusual. We had our ceremony in the Main Court, which is a Italianate Renaissance Revival with a dramatic double staircase. The space accommodated our 100 guests, as well as leaving room for our trio and a recessional aisle. Processing down the staircase made for a dramatic (some would say, breath-holding) entrance for the wedding party. It's a gorgeous space with great acoustics. We had our reception across the street in Brown Center, a contemporary building that my photographer raved about because it inherently softened the lighting and made his job easier (he said that it could have been designed by a photographer). Also, the MICA staff is very, very, very helpful. Both the event staff (Ann and Cara) and the caterer (Peter) were great at helping my sometimes bridezillaish self get through it all and the event turned out wonderfully. Lots of compliments on the food, too.
I photographed a wedding at MICA about two years ago and had a great experience. From a photographer's perspective, the spaces were beautiful (ceremony in the Main Building and reception in the Brown Center) and the staff was super easy to work with, very down to earth and real (Cara Shaffer was the event coordinator from MICA)
