Memorable Weddings by Greg Smith

We hired an officiant for our wedding because we wanted to write our own wedding ceremony and vows. However, Greg Smith was the worst choice we made of all our vendor choices for our wedding.

We made it extremely easy on him--we wrote everything word for word for him to read. It was well written and easy to follow. We met with Greg one evening at his home for about 20 minutes, presented him with the outline, and he assured us that it was great and he would have no problem reading it. He went on about how many weddings he's done, the different things he's done for different weddings, and said this was nothing out of the ordinary.

We felt confident in him because of those statements. We paid him an outrageous amount of money for the 20 minute ceremony, and went on our way.

The day of the wedding he did show up in time. However, as he read the outline for our ceremony, it was EXTREMELY MONOTONOUS. I cannot stress this enough. It was without emotion, ready very quickly, no pauses or inflection in his voice, no attempt at making the humorous parts humorous, nothing! It was unemotional and boring. Such a disappointment! We worked very hard at writing this ceremony in a way that reflected our personalities and faith, and he disregarded our wishes.

After the ceremony, we were to sign the marriage license, and he told us he would meet us in the parking lot to sign the license. We had our receiving line after the ceremony (which was outside), and we looked for him for 10 minutes in the parking lot. We were calling people to see if they had seen him, he was no where to be found! So, we continued with pictures, and figured maybe he left and we misunderstood what he wanted. As we went to our reception site to start the reception (which was across the parking lot from our ceremony site), we were told that he was in our reception sitting at a table eating our appetizers and drinking. We were amazed! We had NOT invited him to the reception, and we found that to be a very bold action on his part.

Overall, I would not recommend him to anyone unless you are looking for an unemotional ceremony.
