Reviews for Michaels
LOVE this store! Great variety and nice products. Good sales and coupons!
I love Michaels! They always have coupons and accepted my 50% off coupon even though it was expired. They have an awesome selection. I bought the material for my DIY save the dates. They have a wide selection of embossing supplies. I've been going to them since i was in elementary and will continue going to them when i'm old and making quilts for my grand babies!
What's there to say? Michaels rocks for anything DIY...the coupons don't hurt either! :-)
I don't know where I would be without Michaels because I've bought so much from them. Ribbons, styrofoam balls, silk flowers, paper, etc. Affordable and local.
World Market, Coleman Avenue, San Jose, CA
Generally I like Michael's... but this location seems to be behind on customer service. The World Market Location, Coleman Avenue, San Jose, CA.
(This store caused them the 1 star).
I've had the same terrible situation 2 times in 2 weeks @ that same store!
To begin, I love their 40% off coupons, I use them to get my "big" ticket items and I use the 20% offs for regular price items under $5, I wait for sales on anything else.
So, I go in and begin on one side of the store like usual. I make my way down to the "clearance section" which I think is GREAT to have, not all of them do. I spent quite some time rummaging around the scrapbooking paper and found this lovely vellum. I've haven't been crafty for some years now and have never attempted scrapbooking though I think it looks beautiful. So I grab a few sheets of the vellum, planning to use them as practice sheets to test some of the DIY projects I plan on doing for my wedding or my own ideas for that matter... there was no price sticker but there is a load of it, so I look at others, they were generally 0.15 to 0.25 per sheet, I figured good deal.
I get to the cashier and she rings the vellum last, it comes up 0.75 per sheet. I asked her to double check, 0.75 regular price. My request for discount pricing with the explanation that I got it from the clearance section and there was a lot of it there. The supervisor comes stating that by policy it is regular price and since it has no price tag there is nothing that can be done regardless of where it is located, she insinuated a customer stacked it there. She also stated the only prices they will honor are mis-tagged ones. In my own defense (and fellow shoppers) I explained that was highly unlikely as there was LOTS of that paper there, that EXACT sheet & that there was actually MANY designs in the clearance section without tags, asking if she thought a customer put all those there too. No direct answer, just something along the lines of "people do it all the time trying to get over". I rebutted by saying it appears more like the slack of a worker based on the amount of "untagged" items, as it was not just one or two sheets of one or two items, it was lots of paper of various type/prints/styles. Either way, she denied any type of discount and I left without the paper :(.
One incident, it happens, right? So I shop there over the next week with my new coupons. Didn't purchase anything untagged, no issues.
Today, I go to do my usual price checks on items, 20% off small items, catch sales, & find some clearance paper to test my wedding invite template I made. I find some without problems, find some without tags. I remember the incident, a sales represetative walked by... I kindly requested she do a price check for me, no problem. I find more paper fine, more paper untagged but no sales representative around. I put it to the side and keep looking... while looking I found quite a bit of that paper, and many others UNTAGGED... I want the paper.... I put it in my basket and tell the cashier I have some items from the clearace section untagged.
She begins... three papers NO tags, all on clearance, I'll take 'em. One paper no tag, regular price... I make the same request as before, honor a similiar clearance price based on the fact it is most likely stockin error, lots of that paper was there without the price tag and even more so, lots of different designs were stocked there WITHOUT tags... I told her proof is on her counter as we speak (The first three I choose had no tags but were in the clearance section, on clearance). She just rang me up 3 other papers without tags, from the clearance section on clearance, yet said there was nothing she could do. She happend to be the same supervisor who serviced me with last incident, she remembered the incident and told me she discussed it with her Assistant Mngr. & Store Mngr. - they stated policy is policy and there was nothing they could do. I explained that I understand policy and its placement in the system but there should be room for exceptions, such as this one. Two times, I have spent the time to look for an item expecting to buy at a good price and ended up unhappy because they would not take responsibililty for their own error. It got a bit loud, and I flat out told her it was stupid to argue over a lousy $1.70 price difference BUT I was standing ground on principal of customer service. She continued to say there was nothing she could do, so I asked if they were willing to loose a regular customer over the dissatisfation of a $1.70 difference. She held her position of being unable to make any adjustments.
Pissed I was, so pissed, I told the lady I was NOT going back here anymore. I like the physical set-up BUT the customer service sucks...
I was totally unhappy & to make it worse I didnt pay good attention to the items I did purchase. I bought a marker set for drawing with a 40% off coupon (though I must say the fellow patrons are GREAT - I often give my extra coupons out as we shop - and today the favor was so kindly recipricated, a fellow shopper had an extra coupon and gave it to me!). When I got home and unloaded my items the damned box was already opened with missing markers!!! Uggghhhhhh!!! I called the store right away to let them know so I would not get a hassle upon return, I shall be going back tomorrow for exchange.
Thing is I don't WANT to go back. Looking back this stores overall service is crappy. It is the closest to me and where I do the majority of my Michael's shopping, but looking back I am constantly walking around the store looking for someone if I have a question and NEVER do I find someone quicky. Most of the time those representatives have no knowledge of the products and on girl even said, "I don't do scrapbooking, I don't know." Well that's fine, but she didn't even offer to find the answer from someone else... she just walked away! Of all my times in that store I can only recall one female cashier and one male service representative that always provided good service. Now I wish I took better note of their name to give them credit where credit is due.
Pondering the situation, I feel very just in the position I've taken. Managment has the ability to discount items of any nature when they see fit. I know this personally due to an experience at another store.
During Spring Football I was taking up the task of gifts for our division, our Board Leaders, & our Team Moms. Having been in the McCarthy Ranch Center, Milpitas, CA for other shoppings I dropped in at Michael's. Some items desired where on sale and some weren't. I asked for the manager, explained my position with the team and the details of what I was purchasing... she kindly gave my a discount on regular prices items as a nice gesture to youth sports. I was greatful & noted to myself how nice shopping in that store was.
If I decide to continue being a patron of Michaels I will have to travel several extra miles just to get my items... which means my financial service will be less by elements of time & travel. But I would rather go where the staff knows how to treat their customers!

Michael's is always where I go to do anything crafty.
Grade: A-
I love Michaels! I purchased a lot of my craft items here: paper cutter, corner punches, heat embosser, Cuttle Bug, Xyron. We also purchased kids favors here. I recommend using their 25-50% coupons whenever possible. Be careful though, you can easily spend hours and hours browsing the aisles! It is a little hard to find your way if it is your first time, and a bit hard to track down someone to help. Some of their items are not the best quality and slightly overpriced, but if you have coupons, it's hard to beat! You can pretty much find most craft items here.
I have brought sooo much for my wedding from Michael's !!!! The D.I.Y projects and everything!! If I need something I go to my local store and find it here. It has been my go to place for everything wedding!! The 40 and 50 percent coupons have saved me a bundle also :)
Absolutely awesome!! I bought all my ribbon there and it was so much cheaper than other stores!!
I bought all but one of the materials from Michaels to make my stacker style programs, menu cards, table cards, website cards, wax sticks (for my wax seals) and the big glass that my husband used to make his toast with. The 40%-50% off coupons in the Sunday paper are so useful too. PIB.
I got a few things from Michaels but my best purchase was a very plain little girl's christening veil for $5, and little crystals for $2 that i sewed all over my veil to add sparkle. cheapest veil ever! :)
For the budget conscious bride Michaels in amazing! I bought my DIY invites from Michaels craft store. Instead of paying about 1 to 5 dollars per invitation ours have come out to be under a dollar an invite.
I love michaels! it's so cheap and oh so useful. you can get practically anything there! <3 <3
Michaels is the perfect place for the do it yourself bride. I got all my stuff for my shower invations to, wedding invations, center pieces, and wedding favors and they turned out beautiful. All you have to do is go to the wedding isle it is that easy, and just be creative. It saved a lot of money
I always go there to buy my artsy stuff and I'm planning to get many of my wedding needs there as well.
LOVE Michaels..especially love their sales and coupons! Got signed up for their rewards program as a pilot customer so even better. They always have neat little things for scrapbooking and stuff like that.
I don't know what I could have done without Michael's! I went there like 3 times a week a few months before my wedding and got all my favors, invitations and little trinkets there! A word of advice is to see if you can get all your friends to help your clip the coupons they always have in the newspaper! They come in so handy!!
Cost effective if you can get things on sale. It was the only place that that this specific color of aqua ribbon. So naturally, I bought their entire stock. Good place for odds and ends.
I'm a very crafty person...and I enjoy scrapbooking and the likes. So for my wedding invitations...I decided to make my own.
I've bought all the supplies I need and then some...what's amazing about Michaels...is that there's never a shortage of ideas!!!
I found most of what I needed to make our escort cards, table name cards, and favors at Michael's. Michael's offers everything needed to pull off a DIY reception, however the variety of products offered could be wider. Some of the favor boxes were a bit expensive, so we opted for cellophane bags instead. It was a relief to know that if something was needed, we would be able to find it at Michael's.
After I started wedding planning I started going to Michaels and when they have sales they really do have some great deals. Though if items are not on sale, I think Joanns is more cost effective! I was able to get some great ribbon and paper items here for my DIY items for the wedding which I am really pleased with!
I was at Michael's practically every weekend leading up to my wedding since my mom and I did a lot of things ourselves. We bought jars from here for the candy buffet with the 40% off coupons found in the newspaper. We also got the invitations for the bridesmaid's luncheon from here, which were really cute and matched my colors. My only complaint was from when we returned a bunch of centerpiece vases that we changed our minds on (before they were used). The manager who was up at the front seemed "put out" that we were returning them. Get over it lady.
I can't really put down how much I've spent there yet because I keep going back! I've always been a DIYer and Micheals is heaven for someone like me. I walk in there with some ideas and always come out with more ideas (and supplies). They always have what I need at a great price.
I just love Michaels! If you need anything crafty, it’s the place to go!
Once again. They have everything here. Fantastic
MY HUSBAND AND I GOT ALOT OF OUR FAVORS FROM MICHAELS WHICH WAS VERY COST EFFECTIVE FOR OUR BUDGET! A GREAT WAY TO STAY IN YOUR BUDGET AND TO FIND NICE, YET INEXPENSIVE FAVORS FOR YOUR GUEST THAT DON'T LOOK CHEAP.
I got some green card stock paper, ribbon, and made the invitations myself. Michaels had a great selection and good prices.
Michaels is great! When i couldn't afford what i wanted for necklaces for my bridesmaid, they helped me at michaels figure out how to recreate the look. Also made wedding programs. It was perfect, affordable and easy!
I bought the items for our sand ceremony from Michaels. It looked great and survived in our suitcases on the flight. :)
Great place to get affordable flowers and decorations, if your the crafty type. They have an entire section dedicated to bridal (anything from bouquets jewelery to photo album kits)
We purchased several things for the wedding and reception at Michaels. They have great stuff and a huge variety of things as well! I found the perfect bouquets for my bridesaids here!
Michaels had everything we needed for favors & stuff we didn't need, but just had to have because it was so cute! The only piece of advice I have is start early in your planning process because you'd be surprised how much you can do yourself when time is on your side.
I bought some bowls and ribbons to make simple centerpieces for a friend's wedding. This store has anything and everything you need for crafts.
We did DIY invitations from Michael's. The invitations came with comprehensive instructions on how to print out the invitation and assemble it. They have a great selection of invitations in various styles and they are fairly easy to print, assemble and mail.
Michaels, I found my perfect invitations, I will be printing them out myself. I found the exact color and the price was so right compared to what I have been looking at all ready printed out. You really should check out this option if you have your own computer/printer.
We put all the arrangements together our selves, but we bought everything at Michaels. They have the perfect selection to fit the colors, patterns, designs etc. Anything you need to fulfill your perfect wedding day needs. i recommend this place for anything!
If you are willing to print and address your own invitations- this is the way to go. I collected 40% off coupons from the newspaper and purchased the sets in several trips. I only spent about $97.00 on 150 of them and they looked beautiful – you couldn’t tell I printed them at home!
They're always really helpful, which is a little dangerous because it would lead to a whole heap of new projects my wife had to have for the wedding. Better here than anywhere else though because they're inexpensive.
We decided to print our own invitations which we purchased from Michaels. Included in the package were the invitations, envelopes, response cards, response envelopes and a website that had templates and suggestions on font, content, etc. And they were so reasonably priced! As long as a person is familiar with Microsoft word…printing their own is the way to go.
You can never go wrong with Michaels for any decorating projects you may have. I found all of the ribbon, glue guns, rhinestones...everything I needed for invites and projects. Love Michaels!
We did most of the floral decor ourselves for the wedding. We bought silk and plastic calla lillies, roses (red and white), colored (red, ivory, and black) sand for the sand ceremony, and vases. We also bought ribbon and "I do" napkins.
We bought invitations at Michael’s and printed them ourselves. You could not tell the difference from a professional vendor. If you are looking for a way to save money, they have everything from very informal there to very formal, even those with vellum overlay, that you can design and print at home. Lovely, and affordable. They have an entire bridal line now, and we also purchased the unity candle, place cards, and cake topper there.
We got so much stuff from Michael's. I guess my favorite were the Save the Dates. They looked like we had them professionally designed. We took them to a printer & had them do the printing, but that was it. We got them back, assembled them ourselves & I was very impressed with the final product. Good stuff.
Great selection of favors for my sister's wedding. Staff was very helpful and even when we ended up with extras they were great about returns!
I didn't want to spend the hundreds and hundreds of dollars on invitations so i got mine at Michaels. They were beautiful, pink and white. My wedding colors were pink and orange so they worked out perfectly.
The template was easy enough to install and print out.
I highly recommend to those brides and grooms that do not want to spend a boat load on invitations even to those that don't mind spending money. They came out beautifully.
I love this store! I've got a lot of my decor here and even got supplies here to make my own decor as well. The service was great and I was even able to get coupons off the website to help the price too!
We used supplies from Michaels to create little mint/candy baskets. The selection isn't great but the supplies are all together and the price is reasonable. I also found tiny red roses to accent my hair! The store clerks were not friendly and the locations are always overcrowded and packed, but they did offer a coupon at the register. Over all 90% pleased.
I bought my invites at Michael's. So many people complain about DIY invites, but I found really cute ones and these days nice lasers printers are cheap anyway. The invitations are beautiful and no one knows the difference. Saved me about $400 bucks.
We utilized the weekly 40% off coupon from the sunday paper and bought our do-it-yourself invitations one box/week at a time. We ended up paying about $200 for 360 invitations. They were stylish and modern, and we did the printing ourselves. The invitations came with a computer program to help to format the printing.
Found the most beautiful sage invitations that you make your self at home, absolutely beautiful, a little expensive but alot more reasonable then having them done at kinkos, and they fit my wedding perfectly!
what a great place to go brides!! this place has it all and despite what people say - you can get what you need and reduce with the cost which is huge in todays economy!
We are doing all of our floral arrangments for the wedding party, ceremony site and the reception ourselves with flowers that I have gotten from Micheals Crafts, BEAUTIFUL> BEAUTIFUL>BEAUTIFUL selection of faux flowers
let's see I did my save the dates with stuff from michaels and I made all of my own thank you cards. I also made all of the centerpieces myself with supplies from michaels (which I sold on ebay afterward and almost made back all of the money I had spent). If you're a crafty do-it-yourselfer then Michael's is the place for you.
We did our own invitations and they were awesome, and no one knew we printed them at home. We got them on sale about a year before we got married. They included the invite, envelope, stickers for closing the envelope, programs, response cards, name tents and any and all accessories that go with the invitation.
Although it is time consuming, the product is worth the money.
we bought flowers to make arrangements and bouquets here. gorgeous and broad selection of items for d.i.y.-ers. The staff ordered flowers when they ran out during a sale and gave aus a rain check so we could still buy for 50 percent off. they also have a bridal specialist who will help you in your endeavours if you get stuck on a project
Michaels had a great selection of DIY pieces from the paper needed for making wedding programs all the way to hurricane glasses and candles for table accents. We knew that they carried an assortment of things but were surprised to find more when we finally picked through a few of the store locations.
We used Michaels Crafts for our favors.
They were wonderful in helping us find what we need and were reasonable priced. There is also a coupon in the paper every week so we always used that when going there.
They have craft workshops you can use as well.
We got our centerpieces from the clearance isle and then spraypainted them to match our colors.
It was really neat to see it all at the end and say "hey, we made that stuff!"
I LOVE Michaels! My sister did all of our flowers (silk) and decorations. My wedding was absolutely beautiful. Michael's offers coupons, which is very helpful, along with the sale advertisements. We got everything we needed to make our day special on a budget.
We got Martha Stewart invation kits at Michael's Craft for about $15 per box of 80+ invitations. It turned out to be the most cost effective way to get our invitations and they were VERY nice looking! No one knew that we printed them ourselves!
We did our table decorations ourselves with our families help. Most of our materials came from Michaels including shells and metal rings which we glue gunned the shells on the ring to sit around the hurricane glasses. Our candles which were in the hurricanes had sand glued on them with a shell wrapped around and glue gunned down. The quality of the products at Michaels helped make our centerpieces look professionally done.
If you plan on doing your own invitations, they have beautiful do-it-yourself packages at an affordable price. No one could tell I did them at home.
for a box of forty small clear boxes with the word LOVE in english and french it was kind of cute every body love it.
Every time I go to Michaels I find something new! They have so many great wedding accessories. Little embellishments for your invitations, favor boxes, save the dates, the list goes on & on. You can always catch 40% & 50% off coupons in the weekly paper.
I bought simple little white boxes to put candy favors in. I then tied with a sage green ribbon. They were so cute on everyone's place setting. Like a little gift to say thank you for comming. They were half the price of anything else I could buy for 300 favors including the candy.
WE BOUGHT CANDLES, RAFFIA & THOSE GLASS MARBLES TO DECORATE THINGS OURSELF. SAVED A LOT OF MONEY TO SPEND ON OTHER THINGS.
You cant beat micheals 50 percent off coupons you will find in your local sunday paper. Use them wisely brides and put money back in your walley instead of on your credit card.
We probably went to Michael's 100 times in the week before the wedding. The favor boxes were beautiful & perfectly matched the decor. They have things you wouldn't even think of & are pretty good about transferring things from other stores for you.
I like michaels for flowers and decor, but the do tend to be a little overly pricey.
I shop and wait for sales, and wait for 50% off coupons.
We decided to print them myself. More of a personal touch. its an easy way to save money and still have money to work them.
I love Michaels, I've been picking up all kinds of stuff there since I'm feeling crafty and making a lot of stuff on my own. So far I've gotten my invitation supplies, silk flowers, flower girl basket, bubbles, and ribbons there.
got great deals here on my floral. they have great sales and an awesome selection of really nice silk flowers. sign up for their newsletter to get additional coupons, like 40% off!
I got my invitation from a Michaels arts and crafts store. They have a line of wedding invitations and wedding favors by Brides®. Please believe me when I say EVERYONE loved my invitations. They were cute and of great quality. They make you look like you spent a ton of money but I didn’t! each week a new coupon came in the mail for 50% off one item. I would buy one box of 35 invites a week. Instead of paying 34.99 I got them for $17!! I took them to Kinkos to get printed. They were stunning!
The floral clerks helped us pick out white and purples roses/flowers for our bouquets, boutineers, and table top vases.
We put together the arrangements with their instructions.
My fiance is allergic to pollen, so Michaels is a HUGE help to us!! My flower is a calla lily and we are getting married in fall, so it is also more cost effective for us!
We bought our invitations from Michael’s Craft Store in Leesburg, Virginia. I chose print-your-own invitations because it fit my budget better. The style was a more clothlike paper with dried leaves/flowers embedded in the paper. It also had a velumm sheet on top for text and came with gold ribbons to assemble the two. The set also came with one response card that you had to print and response envelope for each invitation. I believe it was about $35.00 for 50 invitations and I used a weekly Michael’s coupon to get even more off. The invitations were easy to make. A little tricky to get everything to line up on the velumm and print without being crooked. I don’t remember if the holes were pre-punched or not. I was pleased with how everything turned out. The only improvement I would make is I would have liked to background/flower paper on the invitation to be a little heavier. This was more work than just ordering pre-invitations but definitely saved on the budget. Once again, suited my needs but didn’t wow me – hence a rating of 4.
The folks at Michaels in North Brunswick were my friends! I was in their weekly and by the end daily. I am amazed at what I was able to accomplish- made my own STDs, invitations, menus, programs, cake topper, ribbon boards for seating cards, bubbles, you name it- I did it! The prices are a little higher I think, but the store was so convenient for me and the selection was outstanding for all the ribbons that I needed.
Because I was working on a budget, I decided to go the DIY route for invitations. Tons of wedding magazines have Michaels coupons in them, so I used a coupon to buy my DIY invitations and programs, and altogether they cost $90. They have a beautiful selection of invitations (along with tons of other stationary products). My only warning is to make sure you have a good printer. The first printer I started on had a lot of trouble (vellum getting caught, ink smudging), but once I went to a newer printer, it only took me a few hours to get invitations, reply cards, and envelopes printed. You do need to set aside a fair amount of time to put everything together, but it’s definitely a good money-saver for budget-conscious brides.
I bought invitation kits at Michael's and printed them myself. I needed 2 packs, so I brought in 2 50% off coupons from the Sunday paper. They let me use both of them at the same time. The invitations were beautiful and the quality was very good. They were so easy to print, that I purchased printable place cards and programs too.
I made my own centerpieces to save money!! After looking online I found a few great ideas!! For my centerpieces I bought some little fish like bowls that were very beautiful!! The cost $1 a piece at Michael's Craft Store. Also at Michaels I bought some little pebbles (kind of like fish rocks for an aquarium). I only needed 3 bags for 20 centerpieces and they were $6 a piece. Then I bought the bigger shiny pebbles and put 8 of those in each centerpiece. Those bags for $5 a bag and I bought 3 bags. Then I bought white floating round candles (1 for each centerpiece.) Those cost about $10. I set lilac colored rose petals around them I added water and lit them before the reception!! They were beautiful and I received many compliments!! I also saved ALOT!!!
Making your own wedding invitations and cards has got to be one of the most painful experiences a couple can go through. Lily got the idea that to save money, we could make our own save-the-date cards. I though we could save money by not sending out save-the-date cards, but I was overruled. She had found some starter kits at the arts and crafts store, Michaels, and thought that it would be a fun project for us to do. I have no art skills, and neither does Lily, but this somehow escaped us at the time. We brought the supplies over to her mother's house, who wanted to help with the project. We open the box, order pizza, and before the pizza gets here we realize that we'll need Lily's laptop and printer. I drive over to the apartment and back. Then we realize there's no ink, we need ink. I get in the car again and go back to the store. Then we need glue. Then we need to tie these small ribbons things, figure out the wording, the dates, where the names should go, etc. Four hours into the project, no one was really into it anymore and we had spent over $100 and had nothing to show for it. Making invitations should be only for those who like doing crafts, and who have the time and the know-how. We look back on the project and laugh, but there was no laughing in the car on the way home that night.
We bought favor “boxes” from the store and stuffed our own with Hershey’s kisses. They came with little tags that we could personalize ourselves, which we did and they came out beautifully.
Flowers! If anyone is thinking about wanting to do the bouquets and center pieces on your own, Michael's the store that sells everything for crafts and art like thing is definitely the place to go. Depending on the type of flower you are looking for would depend on what time of year you would have to go to gather the flowers, but they have an excellent selection of artificial flowers for make excellent bouquets and center pieces. The artificial flowers are very colorful, very plush, they make great bouquets. And the best thing of all, the ladies that work in the flower section are fantastic resources to go to for help in what goes and gathers well together and making a great and well rounded bouquet. I think the woman and I spent over an hour on the floor out searching for flowers, but we had such a great time and we tried so many different combinations of flowers together and in the end, I had 5 bouquets and center pieces for 100 guests complete 12 weeks before the wedding. It was fantastic! oh yeah, and the price... well compared to using fresh flowers... I was speechless. Other than not having that fresh flower smell you would never know my flowers are artificial and I can be assured that there are no mishaps with my flower and bouquet order. Unfortunately neither one of my sister could do that and both of them were left the morning of the wedding with flowers, center pieces, bouquets missing, broken, browned, etc... I would say artificial is the way to go! And then you can use the artificial bouquets on the bridal table or wherever to decorate the reception.
The silk flowers were from Michael's Craft store. We didn't want there to be dead flowers on the dance floor, so kept the organic flowers for the church only. It worked out really well.
cheap. they have everything
Great selection and awesome prices on wedding favors! We shopped at the Michaels in Germantown in Milwaukee, WI.
I used Michael's for my ribbon needs. I also used the ribbon on my invitations. I also made little wedding treats that I got all my supplies from here as well.
Traveling to NYC for a wedding can be hectic, especially when you have to remember to bring favors. We saved time and money on getting our favors from Michael’s. This craft store has a section specifically for weddings. What’s even better? Depending on the time of year, you can find sales galore! Since we were married on Valentine’s Day, we racked up on Valentine’s Day sale goodies to decorate our reception site and we saved a ton of money doing it this way.
A really good resource for diy brides. We purchased at Michaels our glass cylinders (3 per table) and all our candle votives and only spent about 100 bucks total. Plus they have pretty much anything you'd need for making your own invitations, favors, etc.
We purchased our favor boxes from Michael's. Our colors were black and white with sage green as an accent. We purchased 300 little boxes (150 black and 150 white). They were considerably less than other vendors that I looked at. They looked nice too (of course!). Brides brand.
And of course... we used coupons to get an even better deal.
Michaels became like my second home during planning our wedding. Their prices and inventory is amazing that I bought like EVERYTHING there... Favors, candles, supplies, etc. They take expired coupons too!
Wedding invitations can be very expensive when designed by a company, so we decided to go the partial DIY route. Michael’s has a large selection of invitations with templates to load onto the computer, enter your information, and print out beautiful invites at a fraction of the cost! We were able to make complete invites with an invitation, ribbon, lined envelope, seal, RSVP card & envelope, and directions for under $1/each. We have received numerous compliments on them and nobody knew that they were made at home! DIY invites are a great way to save some money for your wedding.
I found adorable seal and send “Do it Yourself” invitations at Micheal’s. Catch them at the right time and you can score invitations for 50% off as I did. They are really easy to do on your home computer and look as good as ordering from a catalog. If you sign up on their mailing list, about once a week you get a 50% a single item coupon which comes in really handy!
We found everything we needed at Michaels and got a great deal by using their 40% coupons for just about everything.
I wanted to do some fancy silk flower centerpieces and make them myself just for fun, and they had everything I needed in one stop – the vases, flowers, ribbons, glitter, and all that. Prices are good but I learned later that they have really good coupons, so that would make the prices even better!
We had spent a few weeks looking for the right invitations to send out, and we kept coming up short (wrong color, didn't like the design, didn't go with our theme, price too high). I visited our Michaels one day to pick up some scrapbooking materials, and I walked through the wedding aisle just to see what they had. My eye immediately was drawn to their invitations, and I saw exactly what we were looking for. We had to print our information ourselves, but the paper and design and quality was exactly what we wanted! For 5 boxes of invitations with the coupon I had, our invitations cost us less than $60!!
I was originally going to have the invitations made. I went to Broadway Paper first to look at stationary, but the prices were through the roof! I understand that the paper may be of great quality, but (to me) it was just paper. I went to Wal-mart, and then I went to Michael’s Arts and Crafts and found a wedding invitation kit that I really liked. It cost less than $150 (and an extra $10 to have the ink cartridge refilled) for 3 boxes/150 invitations, with RSVP cards. The price that I was quotes at some professional printers for 150 invitations was between $1.50 and $3.00 an invitation card, not including the RSVP card or the seating card. In all, I saved at least $75 on invitations by buying a nice invitation kit (nice, but not cheap at $50 a kit!) and making the invitations myself. To put it into some sort of perspective, $75 dollars is the difference between a nice and a beautiful veil.
Check your local crafts stores that have wedding items. Even if they don't have a wedding aisle look up books for DIY wedding favors. We had a blast making ours withing months of the wedding and everyone knew they were handmade and cherished them that much more!
I love making things by hand if I can, so I decided to try my hand at making centerpieces. I got everything I needed, plus good advice, from Michaels. Super friendly staff, well stocked inventory.
Center pieces - great do it yourself prices. Save hundreds if you are creative. Bought large glass vases, a few plastic branches, flowers, colored rocks, and filled with water. Gave great height to the room. This was for a luncheon at the cynogogue for the bride and groom. Came out beautiful, looked like a professional did it. They would have charged us $125 per table. I bought for 20 tables - had 200 guests. Great selection!
I walked into Michael's hoping to find flowers for the big day. I walked in and saw my centerpieces that I had to have! I didn't know what I wanted until I saw what I purchased and couldn't have been happier with their prices!
We bought most of our favors here because I had coupons. It’s very reasonably priced and does not appear cheap. The customer service is not that great. I spent some time trying to get someone to help me and once I did she didn’t know much. It appeared as though they were understaffed. I would recommend going online first or going with someone with experience in the arts and crafts department.
Michael's craft store is amazing! I got my invitations there and they turned out great and were very inexpensive.
Oh my goodness, I love Michael's! This is an awesome store for DYI projects. We got a lot of our flowers and tulle from Michael's.
This place is wonderful for buying almost everything you need for your wedding. I bought all of my invitations, bubbles, candles, stickers, garters, ribbons and baskets here! I wish I had my bouquets made here because then they would last forever!:)
This store was made for party favors! We were able to buy everything from a very pretty cake display, to confetti, to tiny little bottles that hold the bubble soap (for when we left the church). We also got place cards, which I thought was rather helpful! I don’t think that people expect wedding favors, or small souvenirs, but I liked that we were able to give each guest a token and memory of our special day. We chose these small chocolate boxes. Tiny, but cute (and practical, because they could eat it).I would say to check it out, and know that you can always add your own personal touch to anything.
There’s this whole subculture set up around DIY weddings, that I felt I should spend an entire weekend gluing ribbons and beads on cards with my maid of honor. We spent about an hour in Michaels, at least an hour, looking at all the different invitations. In the end, we picked some very nice Martha Stewart kits (pink for the bachelorette party, green for the save the date, and then blue for the wedding). They have many kits to choose from, and we were lucky and could get some stuff on clearance. It took lots of time printing them up, making sure they went in the right envelopes, but it was fun and I think it’s totally part of the process.
I helped make all the invitations and the party favors using Michaels. People were actually asking where we purchased the invitations because they looked so good. The wedding had a beach theme and the bride lives in Norfolk, VA so she collected tiny shells that we added to personalize the favors. I'm so glad we decided to get together and make these -- it was so much more personal and it made us feel even more a part of the ceremony and the results were so profesional!!!
I had a very good experience there. They have a wide selection in their "wedding" section and they also have beautiful things all throughout the store that I have found.
Check out the invitations you can make yourself and design every step of the way at Michaels craft stores. They look great, the price is pretty good and the invitations are simple to set up at the store.
Michaels is the best. I bought tons of decorations for my wedding and saved a ton of money by doing things my self. I'm glad I had the time. Use Michaels as a first resource.
This store is full of little goodies waiting to be put together. I made all the party favors.
If you are looking to save a little bit of money on your Big Day. Be sure to check out Michaels Crafts before you buy anything. There are a lot of items you can buy at Michaels and do yourself pretty easily. Especially if you have 150 or under in terms of guests. Check it out, it will save you money just like I did!
I decided to save money and make my own invitations. They were long and skinny with ribbon across the top. Printed on cream, and mounted on colored cardstock. We got the cardstock at michaels for a great deal. it was more work, but the price made it worth it.
My aunts and sister decided that they would be in charge of decorating the table with pictures of Mike and I, along with a second table with the guest book and where the guests could find their seating cards. They got in their mind to have a beach themed table, I guess because Mike and I would be going to Fiji on our honeymoon. They poured down a base of brown sugar, which looked like sand, and they made these cute little wooden sun chairs out of small wooden sticks. Each chair had an umbrella with the guest’s name on it and the number of the table they were sitting at. It was really cute seeing all these small chairs, and most of the guests took the umbrellas and popped them in their drinks afterwards, which was pretty cool to see. They made sandcastles out of the sugar, too, it was nicely done and it was obvious that they put a lot of time into making those chairs and setting it up.
We searched the large wedding department at Michael's for a wedding party favor idea and found that they had little clear bags you could put together and place small candies in. We purchased the bags from them, along with the supplies to create a hand made label for each bag. We were able to use coupons on our order and saved about $20. They are good with coupons there. If you don't have one they usually let you sign for one. The have great ideas to start from there and we appreciated that because we are not the most "crafty" people, but we wanted our favor to be hand made and heartfelt. A perfect combination and a perfect favor!
Everyone knows this store and I've used it for years just for various craft projects, but it's really worthwhile to just walk around and see what they have that you might be able to use for your wedding. HUGE money-saver!
I knew I didn't want to spend a lot on our invitations. We walked around Michaels for a few minutes, debated a few more over which packs of invitations to buy, and never looked back! We printed them ourselves and we were happy! Great quality and a great price!
Thanks to the new trend of Scrapbooking, Michael’s has a HUGE selection of nice papers, rubber stamps, colourful ribbons, and interesting wedding invitation ideas. With the creative ideas they give you, I was able to make some beautiful invitations at a very low cost. They also offer classes and tools for scrapbooking, so you can make a memento of the wedding later. Be careful of the Martha Stewart section though – some really nice materials, but the prices are nearly triple what the other supplies in the store are. Just go to a different aisle for the same stuff at a way better price. Also, remember to buy more than what you will need, because you will make mistakes if you’re DIYing it!
They have nice veils in their wedding section...we bought the basic white two-tier, cut one layer off, then bought swarovski crystals which my mom glued on - after steaming it it looks just as good as the store-bought crystal veils, but for about 10% of the price.
I found a do-it-yourself wedding invite kit which included everything. They also send out 40% off coupons everyweek. They have a big bridal section
Thanks to my mother in law my flowers were all beautiful and very inexpensive. We bought all of the fake flowers from Michaels. We ordered ribbon online and had our name son the ribbon. I can't find the name of the ribbon place though. Anyway get yoru flowers from Michaels, it saveed me a ton of money.
I chose to buy decorations right after christmas, including christmas balls and paint the inside then put clear labels on the front with our names and date on the front. These were cheap favors and they helped alot with getting alot the materials.
I GOT ALL MY FLOWERS HERE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE ALL THE BOUQUETS MYSELF WITH THE INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKS THEY HAVE. THERE HELPFUL AND VERY NICE WHEN IT COMES TO HELPING YOU FIND WHAT YOU NEED.
