Mitch did a wonderful job on the music for our wedding reception! Everyone loved the music, and people were on the dance floor all night. Mitch was so organized and met with us several times prior to the wedding to help us determine the order of events at the reception. He ensured that everything went smoothly and all the dances, cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc. happened on time. We are so appreciative of Mitch's organization and professionalism - he made our wedding day great, and we would recommend him to anyone looking for an awesome wedding DJ!

I'm a musician, an audio engineer, and had a very specific vibe, feel, mix I was hoping for. But I also wanted someone I could trust that would do whatever was needed (including veto me if it would keep more people on the dance floor). I had been researching all over the knot, wedding bee, overall internet searches, and more and wasn't finding ANYTHING CLOSE to what I wanted. Then I found Mitch. Everything I was hoping for and more. Great communications, professionalism, responsiveness. He got to know us and what we wanted - what mattered most to US - and executed against that perfectly. Even gave some great suggestions to moving our reception schedule around a bit....his suggestions were spot on. We had the event of a lifetime and Mitch was a huge part of helping make that happen. No reservations. Would be happy to be a reference as needed.

Mitch delivered on every promise he made about his services from the initial viewing of his website right up through the day of the event. He conducted our wedding reception MC and DJ responsibilities at a 5 star level. We received the highest compliments from all of our guests about how much fun the reception and celebration was and Mitch was an integral part of making that happen. His quick responses, availability to help and planning tools made planning a breeze. I would highly recommend Mitch. He was very organized and always quick to respond. Mitch has a client portal where you can organize all the details of the day which makes it very easy for both of you. He had great suggestions, but also listened to what we wanted for the day. His pricing was very reasonable.

Most importantly, he had everyone on the dance floor all night!! He played a great mix of songs, including the ones we wanted to hear and read the crowd really well to keep everyone dancing.

Overall, I was extremely happy that we selected him as our DJ for our wedding reception.

Mitch did a wonderful job at our wedding. He was on top of everything we had asked for and was very professional. He played all our favorite songs and was able to get everyone up on the dance floor. the lighting he provided looked beautiful with all our flowers and colors. I could not have asked for a better DJ.

Mitch was super awesome! He took all of my special requests and when I became too drunk later in the evening, he talked me out of listening to MMMMbop by Hanson....for a second time. :) Highly recommend! He was great to have as part of our special day!

Mitch Fortune is an EXCELLENT DJ and an AMAZING individual!!! We couldn't have been more pleased with him and his sercives. He truly went above and beyond for us! At the last minute (5 days before the wedding) our reception vendor cancelled and Mitch was not only flexible but he referred me to a new vendor for our reception, and Mitch even set-up our cake for us! Everyone I have talked to about him said that they have never known another DJ that would go the lengths that Mitch did to ensure that our day was perfect....and our day was perfect!

You cannot go wrong choosing Mitch Fortune as your DJ!

The DJ was what I was most worried about while planning our wedding, but Mitch made everything easy. The music was perfect and everyone had a great time, the dance floor was packed all night! Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Mitch was great. He could not have been better to work with leading up to or the day of our wedding. He takes as much or little direction as one wants to give. He had far more people out on the floor dancing than I expected.

I have been in the mobile and club DJ business for over 10 years. In that time, I became one of the most recognized local DJ’s in Asheville. I am not your average mobile DJ, as I have worked for years in nightclubs perfecting my abilities and skills as a DJ and an MC. What music genres are in your collection?

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Describe your DJ style:

The best term to describe my style is genre surfing. I play a little bit of everything mixing seamlessly from one genre to the next. It is my goal to play a little bit of everything so I have your 92 year old grandmother out on the floor beside your 14 year old cousin. I do not limit myself to particular styles or genres of music. I will play just about anything as long as it gets people dancing. The hallmarks of my style is seamless mixing and polished performance with no cheese in my microphone work.

Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?

In a six hour event I can usually work in between 120-200 songs. Can you request what all of those are? Absolutely, but I usually encourage couples to pick 20 or so must plays and then leave the rest up to me, letting me do my thing and make people dance and have fun.

What is your usual attire?

When I arrive I will probably be wearing something light and casual like a polo shirt and jeans or tan shorts, especially if your event is outdoors in the middle of summer. Once I have loaded in and set up I will change into more formal attire. Hauling hundreds of pounds of equipment in dress clothes just doesn't work. For your actual event, I opt for black on black on black. Tuxedos, in my mind, are for those in the wedding party. I opt for black slacks, a black dress shirt, a black tie, black vest, black shoes, and black jacket. If your wedding is more casual I may opt for something more fitting for the feel of the wedding, but I will allow you to have final approval. At my most casual it will be the southern tuxedo: A Seersucker suit.

If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?

I have been working as a D.J. for 15 years, and have almost everything you could ever request. I will do everything I can to legally obtain the songs that you request if I don't have them already. I do not charge clients to obtain music if it is not in my library. Should I not be able to find the specific song via legal sources, I will ask if you can provide it. I can only remember one time that this has ever happened.

How many other DJs do you work with?

I am a one man operation. I do not feel the need to add DJ's to my company, and then risk them with my reputation. Other companies see more DJ's as more gigs, and more money. I simply do not want to risk putting my name and reputation in another DJ's hands. I pride my business on working one on one with my clients, and providing superior service, and I just don't feel I could do that if I had other DJ's working for me. Also, I have spent 15 years perfecting my DJ skills and abilities to create smooth running events, and I just cannot teach or train those skills overnight to add more DJs to my company.

What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?

My standard package includes anywhere from 2 up to 6 hours of "play" or "on air" time.

Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?

Yes. You will meet with me, having planning consults with me, and also I will be the guy who shows up at your event.

Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?

I have done several Latin/Hispanic weddings over the years.

Can the client submit a do-not-play list?

Absolutely, and I encourage them to do so.

Do you bring your own equipment?

Of course. I use only top of the line equipment from makers such as Pioneer, Yamaha, JBL, Sure, etc. I also carry back up equipment as well.

What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?

I offer two lighting packages. One is a nightclub style light show, the other is LED up-lighting (also called light-scaping). I also offer video projection, monogram projection, additional sound systems for ceremonies or additional rooms, etc.

How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?

Usually an hour if I am just doing music. Two hours if I am doing lighting as well. I do ask the client to have the venue set up a table for me to set up on, but can bring one if neccessary.

Do you have any extra space requirements?

I only require space to set up the speakers and stands, as well as space to set up lighting if opted for.

Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?

No, absolutely not. That is why they created business cards!

Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?

I do not talk between songs. MC wise, I will handle all introductions and special moments during the evening such as the cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc., but other than that, I do what I am paid to do, play and mix music and make people dance.

How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?

They will be dancing. Having worked in clubs for years, I can read a room, and know what will get people up and on the dance floor, no matter how old or young the are. I do not need to be tacky and hound people over the microphone to dance.

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?

I do not take breaks the whole night. If you want to provide a meal, great I will appreciate it. If not, I will make other arrangements. Usually I do not have time to eat during an event anyways.

Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?

Like I said, no breaks.

What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

I have a network of DJ's that I work with who can step in if needed, but I have never not made it to a gig!

Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?

No, one is all you can really do in a day.

What is your overtime rate?

$25 per 15 minutes.

Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?

Depending on the location of the event I do. If it is more than 30 miles from Asheville, I charge fifty cents a mile after the initial 30. If the event is over 3 hours one way from Asheville, I also charge for a hotel room.

What is the required deposit to secure your services?

I charge a 50% retainer for events, and use a standard contract for events. Deposits are 75% refundable up to 60 days before the event. After 60 days, refund terms are spelled out in the contract.
