It was great food and very comfortable. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. All of the food is served family style, so you have to pick all of your food out ahead of time. More food than anyone could eat and we were given a private room. I really liked that we did not have to order food. It was just served when we were seated and saved us that time.
Monell's is an ideal place for a rehearsal dinner. Because all of the food is served family style, if you end up with one or two extra guests at the last minute, it isn't difficult to accommodate the extras. If you are having guests in from out of town, Monell's is a great place to give them a taste of real southern food. The only drawback is you don't have much of a selection when it comes to choosing the menu.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Monell's downtown. My husband and I had always enjoyed eating there with friends and thought it would be a great place to showcase some down home southern food to our close guests who were from out of town. The food was great as always. The one complaint we heard from some of our more finicky guests is about the lack of selection. Since it is family style, everyone gets the same thing.

At Monell's, the table service is communal. All items are passed around the table and the excellent staff at Monell's soon replenishes an empty bowl. Each day's menu includes 2-3 meats, 3-4 salads, 4-5 hot vegetables, drink and dessert.
