We absolutely loved having Jim Gepperth as the DJ for our wedding. Jim went above & beyond our expectations. His prices are so affordable, & we were able to make payments over a period of 8 mths.

We received SO many compliments on the music at our wedding. We had several people tell us our wedding was the best one they had ever been to, and many more people tell us it was one of the best. We spent a lot of time going through songs that would be crowd-friendly, & it definitely worked. We had a good mix of new songs with oldies, & our dance floor was packed the entire night.

Some of our friends told us that, no matter how much time we put into making our music list, the DJ would just play whatever he wanted based on what the wedding guests were requesting. This totally did not happen with our wedding! All the songs Jim played the entire night came directly from our playlist, & he also added in songs that were very similar that we loved.

Our limo company was totally unreliable and showed up 45 minutes late to start the day, so the rest of the night was then delayed. I was frustrated after we finished pictures because the reception was starting later than I had wanted. When I walked into the reception hall, though, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief and relax. Jim had mood music playing, people were drinking cocktails, and everything was working PERFECTLY. He even coordinated the entrance with the entire wedding party, which was much appreciated considering the ordeal our limo company put us through.

Throughout the night, some people would request songs that my husband and I put on the "do not play" list. When Jim saw that my husband and I had a free moment, he went up to us & asked permission to play these songs.

We are SO glad we picked Jim as our DJ, & we will HIGHLY recommend him to everyone we know. He gives 5-star service for a 2-star price. Take our advice & book with him!

I wish I could add more stars to Value. I called around a lot for DJ services in the Cleveland area and was just shocked at the numbers I was being quoted. Jim Gepperth was my DJ and he was very reasonable, and just flat out outperformed all the other DJs that I was looking at. He played all the songs that I asked for, and none of the ones I didn't. I was asked later, "Hey why didn't I hear the chicken dance?" Oh that's right. Because I put it on the Do-Not-Play list because I hate it. Jim you rock! You kept the music going and got a ton of compliments from my guests. I liked the Online Planning Tool, and Jim responds quickly to emails. Next time we're in Ohio and we need a DJ we're calling Jim.

From start to finish, Jim was the easiest part of the wedding planning. He met with us twice before the wedding and stayed in communication throughout the planning process. I could not imagine a more polite, responsive person. He was flawless at the reception and did a great job of keeping the party going. I would absolutely, 100% recommend him to anyone getting married in Northeast Ohio.

Jim was so great to work with! He was willing to meet us right in our neighborhood prior to the wedding, responded very quickly to email, really knew his stuff and was quite flexible and accommodating! Several of our wedding guests commented on what a great job he did and I felt that his rate was very affordable. Highly recommended!

Jim was very easy to work with and was willing to meet us wherever to accomodate our schedules. He was also very great on pricing and has a really cool future to pay online as well as request music online. The only thing is when announcing us at the reception, he mispronounced my husband's last name wrong. He also plaid a few songs that was on our "Do Not Play" list, i.e. country music and some of the tacky ones and started a congo line. There were also a couple songs that we requested to play and he didn't, but he got the most important ones right. He's a great option for the cost and for being a low-key DJ, but make sure he knows how to pronounce your name and make sure you go over the playlist right before the wedding.

Do you have liability insurance?
No
Describe your DJ style:
We are professional, engaging, energetic and tuned into the wants of your guests!
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
Only the length of your event limits the amount of music you can request. We have online planning tools accessible to clients to help them know how many songs will fit into your event's time frame.
What is your usual attire?
Tuxedo or suit for weddings unless otherwise directed by bride and groom.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Usually, given enough time, we can obtain pre-requested songs. If we can't find them, we'll notify the client to bring their own copy if possible.
How many other DJs do you work with?
Typically, we perform as a solo act but occasionally we'll bring an assistant.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
2.5 hours.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely! Your DJ will make himself available to meet with you before booking.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
We won't call ourselves "specialists" but our area is very diverse and we've DJ'd for a variety of ethnic populations.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes, of course!
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes! Our equipment is professional grade gear that is regularly tested and maintained.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Besides, of course the sound system itself, we also bring a small light system that simulates a multi-colored ballroom affect. Uplighting, video projector and screen can be added upon request.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
Set-up time varies depending on the location of the event - usually 1 hour. We ask the venue to provide a table but we always bring one just is case.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
We can set-up in just about any area that is relatively near a power outlet. For most outside events, we request to set up under some form of shelter such as a tent, pavilion, etc.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
No we don't use signs or banners at events to advertise.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Yes, we usually emcee the reception. We occasionally like to engage the crowd between songs but not to the point that it becomes irritating.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
Here are some tips on having an active dance floor... 1) If the bride and groom are dancing, friends and family members will join. 2) Honor requests. It gives guests a sense of ownership over their own good time. Engage the crowd and encourage them to dance, especially early in the event. 3) Play fun group dances such as line dances, train "locomotion" type dances, etc. 4) Keep the playlist interesting. Variety is usually a good idea unless the client requests otherwise. 5) The DJ will make himself accessible to guests by inviting them to his station, walking the room, etc.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
A meal for the DJ is typically part of the agreement but the music continues during that time maintaining the flow of the party.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
If our other DJ is available, he will act as a substitute. If we are all booked, we have an agreement with another DJ service in the area whereupon they'll make a DJ available if necessary.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
Very rarely do we have a DJ perform at more than one event in a day.
What is your overtime rate?
$90/hour
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
For most of our events, travel expenses are not very significant (within 70 miles radius). Occasionally, we are asked to perform at venues farther away and in those instances we may incorporate a modest travel allowance.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
Typically, clients pay half the total amount as their deposit but one can reserve their date with us for as little as $100.
Additional Advice
It's important for you to get to know your DJ before your event. If you can't meet personally, at the very least, you should have the opportunity to talk with him/her on the phone and communicate via email right up to the date of your event.
