I was so impressed with the beauty of the cakes and the ease in working out details that I felt Nana Pearls was the right company for us. The cake tasting was the icing on the cake because the cake and the fillings were delicious. The owner of 6th Street Kitchen for the reception dinner was so impressed with the cake and Lali, the owner of Nana Pearls, that he is referring them clients. Everyone loved the cake.

She was the first person I contact when I started lloking for a cake, and she was the last one! She was very helpful with me. I was worried about everything related to the cake but she agreed to meet with me any time I would had wanted it and we did, twice, and in realitly we didnt need to. She was very professional about her work.

My wedding cakes was perfect and exactly what I wanted. We are from Canada and planned the wedding in Central Park, Lali was happy to work with us and made everything easy. There are so many details to worry about for the big day and my cake was not one of them. It was beautiful and delicious! Thank you Nana Pearls Wooden Spoon.

The cake was absolutely delicious! We got the lemon chantilly, but be sure to go to a tasting so you can try a variety of options, Lali has some unique flavor combinations. Also, make sure to ask your caterer to save the rest of the cake, because my wife and I only got one piece each. We were very sad about that.
Lali was nice enough to do a custom flower arrangement on the cake when she delivered it, and it looked great. (We got fresh edible organic flowers from the Union Square Green Market.) She was very professional and my wife & I are very happy we chose Nana Pearl's.

Very personal, very easy to deal with. Courteous and responsive to requests and changes.
Old fashioned service in a good way, not hasty or manipulative in any way.

Working with Lali was such a pleasure. I had a unique situation considering that I work in the food business as a professional cook (so I wanted the cake to be really delicious) and my husband is vegan. Lali made the most delicious vegan cake for my wedding. She was such a good listener and was able to create exactly what I had pictured in my mind and more. Super moist chocolate cake with coconut buttercream. No one at the wedding could believe it was totally vegan. My mom said it was the first time that she had ever wanted a second slice of wedding cake!

Lali Gooden, owner of Nana Pearl's, is great. She is willing to do whatever it takes to make your cake what you want it to be!! She checked out the restaurant I was using for my reception site and was ready to piggy back on the kind of food that was served (local, seasonal ingredients). The cake was AMAZING!!!!! She totally went above the call of duty and created an unique and unusual cake that was delicious. I will be calling on her for any special occasion that requires a cake. I am excited to have her make a second (smaller) cake for my 1st anniversary!

My groom's cake was fantastic. It was a big hit and people are still talking about it. It was a surprise for my husband. He is still talking about the cake. I will hire her for all my events.

Tips for Selecting Your Best Wedding Cake
Book early, as soon as you have a confirmed date/location you’ll know whether the caterer can or should provide your wedding cake. Try to book your wedding cake at least 3-6 months in advance.
If you are working within a specific budget, you will have more time to shop around and your cake designer will have time to come up with ideas in order to give you a ‘wow’ within your budget. ·
For the outside of the cake consider the overall mood or theme for your wedding and the level of formality. Do you want a casual wedding cake, colorful wedding cake, eclectic wedding cake, romantic wedding cake, ornate wedding cake, elegant wedding cake or dramatic wedding cake? Or, do you want cupcakes or mini wedding cakes?
When you meet your cake designer, bring photos that communicate your vision for your special day, a picture is worth a thousand words. ·
For the inside of the cake, there are three major routes to choose from: 1 traditional—like a British styled wedding cake or an American vanilla cake, 2 your favorite flavors or 3 something that compliments the menu since desert will be the last course served to your guests.
Also, take into account food allergies that your beloved or close family members may have. The time of year can be a factor as well, for example, summers in New York City are just too hot for whipped cream cakes.
Finally, taste before you book—not all cakes taste as good as they look.
