AWESOME! Phil did a terrific job, he went above and beyond to make the day special, I would definately recomend him to anyone. If I ever have a large event again I will definately be a repeat customer.

Phil Tucker was our DJ and we couldn't have asked for better. He had a great mix of music from Jitterbug to present day. The music was kept low and instrumental during dinner, but Phil cut loose once the dancing began. :) I will definitely hire through this company again!

Phil Tucker was my DJ and he did an excellent job. His prices were very reasonable and he kept the party going all night with great music. He was very easy to work with and always answered his emails in a timely fashion. The wedding website he gave me to set up my playlist was very user friendly. I have recommended him to many of my friends and have been to 5 different events he DJ'ed. I highly recommend him.

Phil Tucker was a great DJ. Having recently been at a wedding where the DJ became an annoying part of the event, we knew we did not want that. Phil tuned into our likes and dislikes immediately. The dinner music selections were enjoyable and quiet enough for table conversations. And then when the dancing began he played a great selection of loud and soft music. He got the energy going in a very unobtrusive manner. In addition, he provided up-lighting that transformed the venue and made it magical. I would highly recommend him to future brides.

Official Entertainment is a full service DJ company serving all of Central and South West Virginia. We are known for our DJs’ skill and experience, and for our personal, specialized customer service philosophy. Our goal is to provide superior mobile disc jockey entertainment through song selection and by only using the highest quality professional audio equipment, with service that exceeds the expectations of our customer and their quests.

At Official Entertainment we measure our success by the success of your event. When you book our DJ services, we work hard to make sure your event achieves your vision of it. Although we are more expensive than some Lynchburg DJs, we pride ourselves in providing top-notch quality and service. So, while everyone likes to save money, you can’t afford to risk the success of your event by hiring a “cheap” DJ. What music genres are in your collection?

Do you have liability insurance?
Yes
Describe your DJ style:
Official Entertainment specializes in creating the soundtrack for modern, elegant weddings. We average 50 events per year and we truly understand the role we play in making your event sound perfect.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
No, we love to play requests.
What is your usual attire?
Most of the time we wear shirt & tie, usually black-on-black.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
No, we buy it. All we require is the song title and artist.
How many other DJs do you work with?
Right now, there are 2 DJ that represent Official Entertainment. You will always know who the DJ is that you book and be able to meet with them before booking.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
Most of the time, we have a 3 hour minimum... but would be open to shorter sets, if required.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Yes. We would love to meet with you.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
No, but have performed events with an ethnic or international theme.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes, with out online music tools... clients can build "Must Play", "Play if Possible", "Do Not Play and "Custom" play lists. The tools also allows notes to be added to any song request.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. We use the top level professional equipment, and usually bring back-up equipment.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
We offer: Up Lighting, Party Lighting, Disco Balls, Fog & Smoke, Bubbles, Lasers, Intelligent Lights, Strobes... ect.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
We like to have access to the room at least 90 minutes before the start time. No, we bring our own tables.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
No. We can setup neatly in a 6x6 area.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
No. We do not use your event to promote our business.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Yes. Most of our clients ask us to make announcements, however we are not comics and do not use the microphone to draw attention to us.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
Its rare, but if needed we would discretely solicited requests from guests. Most of the time, playing the right song at the right time works for us.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We don't take breaks. No, we do not require a meal... however many of our clients insist that we eat. We usually will wait until all the guests have gotten food before we eat, if at all.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Yes. If we need to step away for a minute, we will make sure the music doesn't stop.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Knock on wood, we have never had this occur... but if it does, we work with a network of professional DJs that could help in a pinch.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
No. Most of our events require us to only book one event per day.
What is your overtime rate?
$100/ hour.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Sometimes, totally based on the amount of travel required. We usually charge $0.83 per mile round trip, for event taking place outside our local travel distance.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
We usually require a 50% retainer to book our services.
Additional Advice
Chances are this is your first time hiring a Disc Jockey Service. Many people are tempted to ask (What is your price?) for their first question when interviewing a prospective disc jockey service. This is not the best way to start your interview. Price is important… but should not be “the” determining factor. You want to get all of the information and the most for your money. One potential DJ may charge less because the company is less experienced or is not as well equipped to handle your function. Some DJ services charge more because their service has a great reputation and stay busy… and have an exceptional sound and light show, with many years of experience. Remember the law of supply and demand. You should, by all means, shop around and look for the best over all package that fits you. Just make sure you know what you are getting when you book. We have put together this list of questions to help you interview prospective DJ services. We hope you find the professional that is right for you!

Do you use professional pro audio gear? What are some of the brand names you use?
The DJ tells you name brands that you can buy at the local electronic store (Best Buy, Circuit City etc. ) chances are they are not using pro audio gear. Home Hi-Fi gear is not made to hold up to the demands of repeat performances of professional use.
Do you provide back up gear in case of an emergency?
Chances are nothing will happen at your event, but if it does, is your DJ prepared to trouble shoot the problem? Do they have back-up equipment on location to get the party back on track? (They should have extra cables, fuses, basic tools, CD player, amplifier, mixer, etc.).
Ask them if their DJ service is insured?
If the service is professional and reputable, they will be insured. Most DJ services will at least have liability insurance for $1,000,000. Some will also have their equipment insured.
Are we guaranteed the DJ of our choice the day of the event?
Some DJ companies have more than one DJ working for them. While the company may have been in business for years, your DJ may have been hired last week, so be sure who you are getting. Most companies have references on the specific DJ who will be assigned to your event.
How many years of experience do you have?
This is a commonly asked question. The question should be how many events have you performed at? A seasoned DJ will have performed at hundreds of events.
May we call three of your references?
A good DJ service keeps current references. The list that they provide for you should have at least ten or more names and not be more than six months old. This is a good indicator of the quality you can expect. If you are not comfortable with calling strangers, ask if they have any banquet halls, photographer, or video services that recommend them. Most banquet halls, photographers and videographers work with a lot of different DJ services every weekend.
How will you be dressed?
Specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey is expected to wear for your occasion. Formal attire or coat & tie are the most popular forms of attire. If you are having a “themed” event, make sure your entertainer is informed.
How early will you be Set-Up?
Most DJ services like to have the opportunity to do a sound and light check before any guests arrive. The last thing you want is a DJ hauling equipment through your receiving line and or guests.
Ask if they allow requests from you and your guests?
Consider the policy of requests. The best DJs will take requests form the audience and work them into their routine. But don’t expect the DJ to play every request. An excellent DJ blends requests with songs that will get your guests up and moving.
What type of music is available?
Remember it is not the number of CDs, Tapes or Albums they carry but the content of the media. Ask them how many hit songs they carry and what type of music they have. Ask them how do they stay current with the new hits. A good DJ service will carry a wide variety of music and will have as many as 2000 hits or more. There are professional DJ services like Promo Only and Hot Hits that are available to professional DJs. These services provide the latest hits played on the radio stations with new additions released monthly. Remember that during the dancing segment of your reception a DJ will average 15 songs per hour, so you should hear nothing but hits all night long. This will keep your dance floor full all night and everyone will have a great time.
Do you provide a written contract?
It is extremely important to have your booking confirmed in writing . Ask for a written agreement, especially if you are paying an initial retainer. The standard initial payment for entertainment services is 50%. If you are expecting a specific entertainer, make sure you get it in writing as well.
