About
It was built for James Oviatt, a haberdasher whose luxurious shop once occupied the ground floor of his namesake building. Oviatt’s ambition was to create a spectacular residence that would showcase the Art Deco design he’d admired at the 1925 Exposition in Paris. The Penthouse suite leads to a spacious rooftop terrace with dramatic 360-degree views of downtown Los Angeles.
Reviews for Oviatt Penthouse
The Oviatt was our dream venue, and the entire staff worked very hard to make it a reality. On the night of our wedding, we were completely taken care of, from the moment we walked in the door and found someone waiting for us with a glass of champagne. The event manager, Adelmo, is incredibly professional and responded quickly to emails and calls.
A few clarification facts: the rooftop holds 125 for a seated dinner; we had 90 guests and it was comfortable. They do not use outside caterers, but are serviced by the Cicada restaurant downstairs, which is incredible food and a high class of service. Overall, they were a pleasure to deal with and an amazing venue.
I’m really happy with the Oviatt. It was beautiful, just what I wanted, historical/urban. There were hitches throughout the day, but I am happy overall.
We had our wedding @ the Oviatt on 7-28-07 and had a really pleasant experience. Julie and Tony was very accommodating and helpful. The entire process went smoothly. In fact, one of our friends want to have their wedding there.
The Oviatt was our first choice for a location but we ended up getting screwed. We went in in April and loved the place but they would only book 12 months in advance (we were looking at the following June) so they told us to come back on July 1st but they would keep our date on the calendar and do the official contract then. So, I showed up on July 1st, ready to make the deposit and sign a contract and they informed me that they had been bought out and policies had changed. They said that now, they could only have 48 people in the penthouse at one time and that no outside catering was allowed. Also, since they were still in negotiations of the buy-out, they couldn't be sure things wouldn't change again. WTF? This was a couple years ago, so I don't know what is going on now, but I thought it was really it was really irresponsible of them not to let me know anything beforehand.
My husband and I got married on May 10, 2007 at the Oviatt. It was the perfect urban/vintage place we could find. We had great service from julie and Tony. We did our own music with itunes on a computer. We also did our own bar. These were both pluses for the venue. We had a great evening and all of our friends/family were impressed by the location.
This venue was amazing! It has an old hollywood glamour feeling and is perfect for a wedding! After sunset, the L.A. skyline lights up and surrounds the rooftop dinner and dancing area...absoutely beautiful. The inside of the penthouse is perfect for a cocktail reception, with plenty of little rooms for your guests to explore. Highly recommended!
