The cake was awesome! And this isn't coming from only me, the bride, who hadn't eaten cake in months! Everyone I talked to said the cake was delicious. Jenny was really laid back and flexible. She met all of my special requests about the cake and besides tasting fantastic it was absolutely beautiful! I cannot wait to order her Guinness cake her my birthday!

Jenny was so amazing and friendly! She had wonderful advise, and really listened to what we wanted - even though we were a bit indecisive! My daughter's wedding cake was beautiful! We opted for the buttercream instead of the fondant so the frosting was tastier, but the finish was not perfectly smooth. It is a tradeoff and Jenny definitely advised us about the difference. I admit that I never tasted it, but many guests commented on how tasty it was too! Guinness Chocolate and Coconut! We always felt very confident that Jenny would create a work of art that was yummy too and she so delivered plus made the whole process enjoyable too!

Jenny Peterson did our wedding and groom's cake at our wedding a week and a half ago, and I can't recommend her enough. Not only is she much more reasonably priced than many other local cake folks, our cakes were the best I've ever had! We did red velvet with white chocolate butter cream for the main cake, and her signature Guinness stout cake for the groom's cake, and they were out of this world! On top of that, at the last minute, she offered to alter the cake design slightly to match incorporate a graphic from or invitations/programs, and did a phenomenal job. Our wedding cake was the best looking, best tasting wedding cake I've ever seen/eaten! Thanks Jenny! We'll definitely be calling for a fresh cake at our one year anniversary :)

My cake was amazing - just how we imagined it. We wanted something very elegant yet reflective of our Mediterranean theme. And my husband wanted some height, and I do not like pillars or traditional ways of getting that height, but Jenny balanced it very well. Jenny really helped us carry out our vision!

Jenny is AWESOME! She will make a cake however you want and she is willing to try anything new. She asked what kind of cake we would like and we said anything dark chocolate or tiramisu flavor. So we had a Tiramisu Cake...SOOOO GOOD!

I loved working with Jenny! As soon as we met her we knew we found our baker :) After dealing with other large shops, it was so refreshing to work with Jenny, who keeps things personalized and aims to make sure you get the cake you're looking for. Our cake was gorgeous and delicious. We received many compliments from guests that don't normally eat cake. It's hard to wait a whole year to eat the cake topper... I tried convincing my husband that we should have a slice for our one month anniversary (Just so you know, the cake has always been my favorite part of the wedding, so I'm a little cake crazy). I would recommend Jenny to any bride. On top of the great work she does, she's also extremely affordable compared to a lot of the shops that I spoke with that said they couldn't do my design. I'm so glad we were able to work with her for our wedding :)

I wasn't really sure what to expect since Paradox Pastry was my first wedding cake tasting and design consultation, but I left KNOWING that Jenny would do a fabulous job on our wedding cake and she did not disappoint. The cake was delicious, super moist, and beautiful! Everyone was talking all night about how amazing the cake was and we barely had a crumb left (to my disappointment!)!! We got a cake to feed 150 people and we only had 120 guests-that is seriously saying something.
Jenny's personality was another reason we chose to go with her over other cake vendors. I can't even describe how easy and fun she is to work with. She is patient, creative, reliable, passionate, and a complete delight.

When I first started thinking about what I wanted for our New Years' Eve wedding cake, I knew right away that I wanted something both different and delicious. I could NOT have asked for more. The black fondant covered red velvet beauty that Jenny created for our wedding was absolutely stunning! I have received almost as many compliments in regards to that cake as I did for the whole wedding! It was truly a piece of art and exceeded my expectations visually. I would highly recommend Jenny at Paradox pastry, not only for all of the reasons listed above, but because her cakes were DELICIOUS. I am not a cake fan at all (and really didn't like any of the other cakes I tasted while planning my wedding and looking for pastry chefs), but Jenny's pastries were so good, she won over even those non-cake lovers like me.

FAQ for Paradox Pastry
Custom studio cakes evolve from your own sugar fantasy, a theme, a color scheme, a feel or even a picture which can be tailored to fit your vision. Through client-chef conversations, we get to know you and your design wishes and then translate those into a sketched design. A great way to prepare for your design consultation is to scour the internet, magazines and book for ideas - pick cakes you love or just parts of cakes you love and that will give us a great starting point. Other ways to get started are to develop a sense of what the style or feel of your wedding will be. Will it be elegant? Casual? Modern? Or how about a theme? Seasonal? Color oriented? Backyard BBQ or Starry Night at a vineyard? If you just don't seem to be able to get the creative juices flowing, don't worry - that's where we can help!
The fun begins when the cake comes alive through pastry techniques such as pulled, poured or pressed sugar, modeling chocolate, pastillage and fondant sculptures, colored white chocolate artwork or intricate royal icing detail work. But the range of techniques doesn’t stop there, ideas borrowed from faux finishes such as ragging, stenciling and trompe l’oeil can be combined with raised relief work to make your cake truly one of a kind.
How do I order a custom studio cake?
Custom studio cakes can be ordered through a one-on-one consultation, over the phone, or by email. The lead time is typically 2-4 weeks, but earlier is always better especially for wedding cakes. On the other hand, there is always the possibility of a last minute “panic attack” order.
When contacting us, please have the following information ready:
Your name
The date of the event
How many people will attend the event
The event location
Your email address and phone number
Any ideas you have for the design – if you’re totally lost, don’t worry, the chef will help – but any direction you can provide to begin the process is always greatly appreciated.
For wedding cakes feeding over 75 people, a design/tasting appointment is required. To set up an appointment, there is a $35.00 nonrefundable deposit, payable by cash or check, required to secure the chef’s time. If you place an order with us, the $35.00 will be deducted from the cost of your cake.
What’s the payment policy?
A 50% deposit is required to reserve your date; the balance is due at least two weeks prior to the event. Payment is currently available only by check or cash. Cake orders placed less than two weeks before the date require payment in full at the time of ordering. There is no refund on orders cancelled within 5 days of the event.
How much do your cakes cost?
Wedding cakes begin with a base price per person which includes white or yellow cake, a standard, smooth butter cream finish, appropriate borders and a matching fondant covered foam core board base. Anything added beyond the standard finish, such as rolled fondant or handmade flowers, design details and sculptures, chocolate, or fillings (such as fruit mousses or curds) is additional. Think of the basic cake as the canvas and then begin creating your masterpiece based on your dreams.
Wedding cake base starting prices:
1-100 servings: $2.95 per person
101-300 servings: $2.85 per person
301 servings or more: $2.75 per person
Other custom designed studio cakes begin at $85.00.

You name it, we can do it or help you decide!
Do you deliver?
Yes. Delivery fees are calculated by distance traveled. Cakes that are not sensitive to transport, that have minimal fragile details, can be picked up by the client. However, keep in mind the old saying, “There are only two people who can be trusted with transporting a wedding cake – the person who made it and the person who paid for it!”
Do you make other desserts?
Paradox Pastry is not limited to cakes. We also pride ourselves on creating incredible desserts and savory pastries for buffets, parties, cocktails, special events and restaurants. Are you a nut-free facility?
Aside from the "nutty" chef (at least that's what my friends say!) Paradox Pastry is not a certified Kosher establishment and we’re also known to incorporate nuts into some of our creations, thus we cannot accommodate those with certain food allergies.
Are you a licensed bakery?
Yes, the Paradox Pastry home bakery is fully licensed and inspected by the State of Virginia.
