Pasteleria 3 Leches
I had some high hopes for this place after speaking to the owner over the phone. He was very friendly and even told me the type of questions they ask during tasting so we could have an idea of kind of cakes to look at. Initially, we weren't going to get a cake but had decided to check out some options before making our decision. On the day of our appointment, we entered the bakery and told the front counter person that we had an appointment for a tasting. She looked totally confused then disappeared to the back. After a few minutes, she told us that they weren't aware of our appointment. Um...what? I told her that I spoke to the owner to which she replied, "Yeah, my uncle tends to schedule stuff without telling the staff." So since the staff was not told of a tasting they didn't have anything for us to try. She asked if we wanted to reschedule (yeah right); we promptly skedaddled. Needless to say, I was fairly disappointed.
We went in to this bakery thinking that we had already selected our cake baker and that this would just be a place to test out. Boy were we wrong...we loved the 3 leches cakes....everyone of them is fabulous. We didnt have a set design in mind, but they gave us a rough estimate, and it is the lowest price I have heard yet. I really think we are going to use them...and I recommend them to anyone. Aldo is very nice, and they are willing to accomodate whatever we want
Hooray for Project Wedding! It is thanks to this site that we were able to find the best wedding cake of all time. Mr. EastSide and I finally settled on Pasteleria 3 Leches after tasting expensive cake after expensive cake. They were all beautiful, but all had the same mediocre taste. 3 Leches, a neighborhood mexican bakery in East LA, is decidedly different. Delicious, unique, and cheap cheap cheap! (A 3 layer cake that fed 145, along with delivery, cost less than $350!) I worked with Aldo and his wife, Norma, a lot, because our cake needed to be delivered to Ventura, almost an hour away. Aldo helped us come up with the easiest, most cost effective solution.
Our guests raved about the cake. My personal trainer ate 3 slices!! Very few of our guests had ever heard of a tres leches cake, so it was quite the conversation piece.
We decided on a 3 layer, stacked cake. The bottom layer was pecan (nuez), the middle was regular tres leches, and the top was chocoflan. If you live anywhere near LA, I highly recommend stopping by Pasteleria 3 Leches for a tasting!
The wife of my one of my colleagues recently opened a bakery in East L.A. They specialize in Mexican 3 leches cake. Im a cake snob and this is pretty much they only cake I really like. Just to be sure we went cake tasting at a well-known wedding cake bakery and were not impressed. So we booked this bakery. Each tier was a different flavor, at no extra charge. I just wanted a simple looking cake and they delivered just that. If you look at the pictures (to come in the future) youll notice that its not aesthetically outstanding but the taste was amazing. Our guests who had never tried 3 leches especially raved about it. We paid less than $2 per person and despite the fact that caterer served very substantial slices the biggest tier wasnt even touched. Highly recommended.
I loved our cake! Thank you JuneMango for recommending them. We got a white (kinda Yellow) cake with real strawberry filling and white whipped cream frosting for 75 people for a GREAT price. We only asked for a cake to feed 75 people, but in order to make the tiers the sizes they needed to be they made it for 85 people. It tasted just like strawberry shortcake. The catering servers were salivating. It is definitely not a fancy bakery, but Aldo is SO nice.
