Philadelphia Funk Authority

We got married on November 19th and Philly Funk Authority was our wedding band. I'm a pretty big music fanatic and my wife is not so it was my job to pick the band. I did a lot of research on line and when I decided that Philly Funk was my top choice, my wife and I went to see them perform at a club before we made a final decision. That sealed the deal. They are awesome! All of their funk songs are very tight and well played. Plus, if you have a song that you want them to play that's not in their repertoire, they will learn it for you. We worked with Gary prior to our wedding to hammer out all of the details and he was great in taking us through everything step-by-step. Totally awesome since we had a million things to stress about in planning our wedding. They totally delivered on the night of our wedding - every song was spot on and people were dancing all night. I heard the same two things repeated to me during the reception and afterwards ---- how funny my best man's speech was and how great the band was. Definitely a crowd please and I would highly recommend.

Oh...by the way...my father in law was really not excited that we wanted a band at our reception because he was worried about the volume level and possible out of hand "dance club" atmosphere. He loved PFA and tells me to this day that it was a great idea. Can't get a better review than that.

Phillly Funk provided an amazing wedding experience for us and all of our guests! I used to live in Philly but got married in Pittsburgh; when searching for bands I was running out of options in Pittsburgh, so i started looking elsewhere. Having a band was very important to us, as we think it really changes the dynamic of the event, make it so much more interactive, with much more energy. I stumbled upon PFA when looking in my old stomping grounds and calling some friends. Fortunately, they travel! And it was worth every penny to have them come out to Pittsburgh and play for us! Everything from the planning to the emcee to the dance music was perfect. They were so easy to communicate with and so organized. AND they learned special songs for us. AND their emcee is AMAZING and pronounced our Italian name with fantastic agility!! AND their stage presence was great. Our guests danced all night long and we got endless compliments and how we found "the best wedding band they had ever seen!" In short, get the philly funk and relax!! You will have the most fun wedding ever :)

The Philly Funk Authority absolutely made our wedding. From the get-go, they were extremely responsive and listened to our thoughts. They had great insight as to the timing of the reception (of which we had no idea) and provided ideas along the lines of what we were looking for. At the reception, Gary and the band were great at reading the crowd and playing the amazing songs that we requested! They were accommodating with on-the-fly changes that popped up during the reception and everything was seamless!

The only complaint was that three hours of dancing weren't enough! This band is really amazing. We still hear our guests rave about them, months after our wedding!

My husband and I did not have an unlimited budget for our wedding and so when it came time to decide between a band v. a DJ, the decision was a difficult one for us. There are obvious pros/ cons to each in terms of cost, repetoire, "wow"-factor, etc. And so we went back-and-forth UNTIL we went with a couple of our close friends to see Philly Funk perform at a small venue in Doylestown, PA called Puck. It's literally a 15 table venue, I'd say the max occupancy of the entire joint is about 50 heads. Because of it's small size, every table in the place is basically front row and the acoustics are ridiculous. To say that Philly Funk "brought down the house" that night would be an understatement. Within seconds of their opening song, everyone was on the dance floor. Our friends all agreed we simply MUST have this band perform at our wedding. We were sold!!! We cut a deposit check to Gary that night to hold our date and holy crap did they deliver... they just know how to get the party started and play to the crowd. Their performance at our wedding made Puck seem like a sound check. They're easy-going, fun, and incredibly talented at their craft. I truly believe they're worth every penny they charge. If you want your wedding guests to have the time of their lives on your special day, book these guys, they'll make it happen!!!

Thank you to Philadelphia Funk Authority for providing the entertainment for our wedding! The band delivered in every way throughout our interactions and especially during their 30+ song set at our reception.

First, we would like to thank Gary for the meetings leading up to the reception. Gary was exceptionally professional, courteous, and truthful regarding expectations and answering all questions. We felt at ease that logistics would be planned seamlessly, that they would choose the appropriate songs, and deliver a crushing performance!

Secondly, PFA has an extensive repertoire of music that will keep the party grooving throughout the night. They will accept many musical requests, learn the songs if they can't play them, and you will be very pleased with the arrangement and performance of songs.

Philly Funk exceeded our expectations in every way. They were very easy to work with and incredibly responsive leading up to the wedding, and the day of they arrived early and ran the event superbly. Most importantly though, they totally rocked and kept everyone up all night - and not in a cheesy way. Everyone had a great time and still weeks later, people continue to rave about the band. Our wedding was the biggest success and we have the Philadelphia Funk Authority to thank! Our first dance was "Surfer Girl" by the Beach Boys. The band learned this song just for us, and it was PERFECT. My father and I danced to "You Make Me Feel Brand New" by the Stylistics (another special request), and honestly, it was like they had played that song thousands of times. We tried to make our rounds at each table and thank our guests for coming, but the tables were empty, because everyone was on the dance floor. The introductions were spot on and carried the most exciting vibe. We felt like celebrities when we were introduced as husband and wife, and throughout the rest of the night. The Philadelphia Funk Authority really brought the party. The music was hitting everybody's spot, young and old. There were people on the dance floor that don't even dance.

When planning our wedding I had a specific vision of what I wanted it to be, but everything from the ceremony (Philly Funk) to the reception (Philly Funk) exceeded my vision. We had not a care in the world, just the time of our lives.

After the party, people couldn't stop talking about how amazing the band was and how it was the best wedding that they had ever been to. We even got cards in the mail from guests thanking US for a wonderful night and the incredible music, no lie. I wish we could have extended it another hour or two.

Philly Funk Authority are absolutely wonderful.

They're unbelievably talented: Our family knows wedding bands very well (our sister-in-law worked for year booking bands for corporate events), and they are by far the best we've seen.

They're tons of fun: They have a great sense of their audience and got everybody (even those of our guests we wouldn't expect) up and dancing, having a great time. They played all the right songs at all the right times, keeping the event flowing smoothly.

They're consummate professionals: Gary (the band leader) went above-and-beyond our expectations to make sure that nothing was left to chance. He scheduled multiple phone calls and meetings with us (at our convenience, of course) to discuss our preferences. He took two separate visits to our venue to scope out the space and understand any issues (acoustic, etc.) that he may need to resolve, coordinating with our venue's event planner so that the two of them could work together to plan out the night's schedule.

We are so happy that we chose the Philadelphia Funk Authority. Planning a wedding can be both stressful and exhilarating, and Philly Funk definitely limited the former and doubled-down on the latter. We whole-heartedly recommend them.

Philly Funk Authority was phenomenal!!! We were given several band suggestions from our wedding planner, but Philly Funk was an easy choice after we saw them perform just two songs at a local venue. Beyond being amazing performers, the band was very easy to work with both in the planning stages and on the actual wedding day. We have received many complements from guests about our wedding band, several of our guests have even become Philly Funk followers and have gone to see them many more times since our wedding! We are truly thankful for the wonderful experience provided by the Philadelphia Funk Authority!

We recommend Philly funk without reservation! My friend had them play her wedding a few years before and I remembered everyone having a fun time and dancing. The same was true of ours. They do a terrific job of getting the energy up in the room, and the music is just great. The dance floor was packed with people of all ages. The music is fun but not generic-sounding. The band learned the songs we wanted for the first dance and parent dances, and we were really satisfied.

We can't say enough good about the band that played at our wedding. We were pleased with their professionalism, quick responses and their performance the night of the wedding. I had heard them play at a previous wedding and knew that I wanted them for my own. They kept the night fun as well as organized, and I trusted them to their experience. A suggestion from Gary was that we start the night off with a few party songs so that guests would be able to get up and dance from the start. This worked so well and set the stage for the rest of the evening. We had so many compliments about the music, and of course the vocalists had great voices to carry the songs we love to hear. I would recommend them to anyone!

The Philadelphia Funk Authority was absolutely one of the highlights of our wedding. During the planning stages, the band was friendly, helpful, and receptive, and provided us with a lot of guidance while honoring our taste and preferences. On the night of, they were punctual and quick to set up-- this is a band that knows what they're doing.

Most importantly, the Philly Funk Authority knows how to run a party. They played lovely music for the ceremony and perfect low-key cocktail and dinner music. Then they really kicked it up-- their music had everyone on the dance floor all night. They played a good mix of current songs and old favorites and kept the energy high.

Bottom line: I can't recommend the Philly Funk Authority highly enough. At least 3 people at the wedding asked for referrals for their own weddings, and countless others reported that it was the best wedding band they'd ever heard. Do yourself a favor, hire this band. You won't regret it.

I would recommend (and already have to a few friends) Philly Funk Authority to anyone looking for a great band to play their wedding or event. I received their CD from a venue we were looking at to have our wedding. While listening to the CD on the way home, we knew our search was over. The excellent musicianship, the song selection and the amazing repertoire had us hooked from the start. Once we contacted them, it became even more apparent we had something special. Gary was amazing from the start- he took the time to answer all of our questions, send us all the information we needed and made sure we were comfortable with everything. Once the wedding grew nearer, he double and triple-checked everything with us to make sure the event was perfect. And was it ever! The dance floor was packed the whole night, and our friends said it was one of the rowdiest, funnest weddings they'd ever been to. That's exactly how we wanted it. The band was even able to learn a song for me to sing to my wife. If you want to have a great band at you wedding, hire Philadelphia Funk Authority!

From planning to execution PFA was awesome! We had some special circumstances, such as the need for proof of liability insurance, before they could play at our chosen venue and it was immediately provided. My husband also had a request to have a friend play piano while he sang a song to me and that, too, was accommodated with ease. The night of the wedding was truly memorable, in large part due to PFA. Everyone was up out of their seats and having a great time from cocktails through the reception. PFA played requested songs and met special requests with ease. If you need a band, I couldn't recommend PFA more!

Philly Funk Authority exceeded our expectations - our wedding was a non-stop dance party because of the talented musicians, the range of songs played, and the energy Philly Funk brought to the reception. Working together over a few phone calls prior to our wedding, Philly Funk understood exactly who we were as a couple, the type of music we love, and then combined those factors into their incredible musical style to make our wedding the best ever. They even learned two new songs for our wedding on short notice, and they sounded phenomenal. Philly Funk is not a typical wedding band- they are friends with eachother and are passionate about playing music to make people happy. I can not recommend them enough!!

Philly Funk Authority is the best band in the Philadelphia area! They were easy to deal with on all ends--from song choices, to first dance music and even the "do not play" list. The Philly Funk Authority has become our family party band. We hired them for our wedding in 2007 and when I was throwing a surprise birthday party for my wife last year, I knew there was only one band for the occasion. For both events we wanted to make sure that when the band was playing everyone in the building was dancing and man did the Funk Authority ever deliver on that! My favorite thing about the band is that they play like a band (not an ensemble of musical mercenaries) and they clearly love playing the music as much as we love dancing to it. They are very accommodative and flexible on all sorts of levels: they were willing to customize instrumentation for us as well as learn new songs and flow with the various interludes of both evenings. This is the best wedding/party band I've ever heard and I couldn't recommend them strongly enough.

These guys were very professional all through the process. They were very involved in the planning right from the beginning, and even worked ahead of time with people running the reception hall, the caterers, etc... So everything was well thought out, and ran very smoothly at the reception.

What an awesome, eclectic group of musicians! We heard compliments about the music at our wedding for years to come. The band truly knows how to get people on the dance floor and show them a good time. So many of our guests told us that our reception was so much fun and I credit Philly Funk for keeping the music and momentum going until the very last song. We also used the band for our wedding ceremony (where they put together a terrific Beatles medley at our request) and at our cocktail hour, where they played some great jazz music and set the mood for the rest of the wedding. They're very professional to deal with and really delivered on our wedding day. Go see them at one of their live shows and I dare you not to book them. Such a fabulous band!

While my husband and I were dating, we went out one night and came across live music. Being lovers of a live band, we stopped in, and it was PFA. They were so much fun, we decided that if we got married, we wanted them to play at our wedding. A couple of years later, we got engaged, found the band online, and booked them. They were easy to work with, put on a great show, and brought lots of energy to the night. We've been married over 5 years, and people still remember our band. There are only a few things that are really important to a great party, and music is definitely top of the list - these guys really were awesome.

After a frustrating search of overpriced underperforming bands, we were very excited when we received a recommendation to check out Philadelphia Funk Authority. It didn't take long for us to realize that not only was this group very talented musically, but they also had tremendous experience with weddings and event planning. From the initial conversations over the phone, the wedding started to really take shape as to how it would look, feel, and sound, and much of the planning nerves and headaches went out the window. One thing that stands out is the level of flexibility we were given: timing, size, space, instruments, song selection, ect...they gave us the options, let us know what work well in the past, and ultimately left the decisions up to us. We took their advice for the most part which turned out to be a wise decision. I have been to alot of weddings, I have never seen a band generate the kind of energy PFA does. The dance floor was packed and people were truly enjoying themselves and the music. The vocals were awesome, and the balance of slow and fast songs was perfect. They also did a great job MCing and keeping the reception on schedule. We asked them to perform a song not listed in their catalog for our first dance and they nailed it...better than the original. The things that stand out the most was the willingness and dedication to work with us, the high quality music, and the fact that every person at the reception made a point to tell me how much they loved this band. I can’t say enough.

My husband and I knew we wanted a band vs. a DJ for our wedding, and we had seen the Philly Funk Authority play at a friend's wedding. After the performance they put on, which was upbeat and had guests of all ages dancing, we didn't even bother researching other bands. We simply called Philly Funk to see if they were available--and they were! Since we got married over 3 years ago, friends and family still mention how incredible our band was. One of my most vivid memories of the day was looking out on the dance floor to watch the mass of people getting down. It made me so happy to see all these people I loved having such an amazing time. As you can see, I have nothing but positive things to say about this band. The planning process was also quite seamless in terms of choosing a package, ceremony instruments and details, etc. Gary was easygoing but responsive to our needs. He made the pre-wedding decisions manageable. For those of you wondering about their repetoire, they have a huge list of songs, but will learn something special for your event as well. They learned the song for our first dance together, which they played without a hitch! All in all, I know of about 5 couples that have used this band at their wedding, several of which I have attended. We all share the same view, which is that Philly Funk Authority is the only way to go if you want your day to be a true celebration.

I would like to say with confidence that what people enjoyed most about our wedding was seeing my husband and I get married and begin our lives together. However it's quite possible that our guests might say what they enjoyed the most was the band. Philadelphia Funk Authority (PFA) helped to make our wedding fun! Everyone was dancing the last couple of hours. And not because the band told them to (nobody likes the band dictating people's actions), but because the band played excellent music. The horns were outstanding and the vocals quite impressive. PFA learned two songs for our wedding without hesitating. Gary's rendition of Josh Groban's "You Lift Me Up" was simply stunning. I won't be getting married again but if someone asked me for recommendations from our wedding there would be two...our cake, and the Philadelphia Funk Authority! In fact friends of ours married 12 months later and chose PFA for their wedding. We really looked forward to their wedding!

We LOVED this band. They were extrenely flexible and fabulous to work with. They made our wedding reception a Huge success. Our guests commented throughout the night how great they were and really enjoyed the music!

Great band, and very thoughful to respect other ethnic cultures that we encorporated into our wedding. We had a Indian drummer- and the band worked with them in a professional manner. Woudl suggest to give the exact names of songs you want...you know the people you invited better than anyone...Gary and his team were great. gary was not able to be there- but without a gliche the rest of the crew took care of everything....would recommend them to my own family !!!
