Reviews for Pravda Studios

Reading these other reviews its obvious that Pravda has changed a lot within the last year or so. I did not experience any of the issues these previous reviewers did. Planning a wedding is stressful— sure— but I have to say that my wedding was one of the most pleasant (dare I say fun?) experiences I have ever had. Pravda is a huge reason for that. We fell in love with the space because it’s so not cookie cutter. We were looking for something with personality— something that felt “Seattle” for our out of town guests. With a wide open floor plan, tall ceilings, giant windows along 2 walls, beautiful old, rustic floor— what you can do with the space is full of possibilities. Plus one wall of windows has western exposure so depending on your ceremony start time, you’ll have the skyline and a beautiful sunset as your backdrop. We were assigned to Andy, one of the event coordinators who has all the creative vision, fantastic ideas and professionalism of Martha Stewart, only without the condensation and uptightness. Andy was a dream to work with. My emails never went more than 24 hours without a response and she even gave us her cell phone number if we had trouble reaching her (we didn’t.) She walked us through every step of the wedding. I admit— I was clueless. I had no idea when the best man should do his toast or what the best music to play during dinner would be. Andy helped us with all of the details— not just the ones specific to the venue. She’s extremely talented and clearly loves planning parties. The rental fee includes tables and chairs (basic chairs— if you want the fancy ones you pay extra) plus soft seating (loungey furniture and ottomans). You also get lighting and the coordinator’s time. Compared to the other venues around Seattle I thought it was a good deal— especially because the space is so unique and we had access to a coordinator to help with all those “day off” details. That alone is worth the rental fee. Andy worked with all of the vendors to coordinate deliveries, rentals, etc. Believe me, these are not details you’ll want to deal with. The day of the wedding, I held it together the whole day. I didn’t cry when I saw my now husband for the first time, when I put on my dress, when my mom gave me a beautiful necklace to wear. But when I walked into Pravda before the guests arrived and saw what they did to that place— how our vision for the past 9 months had come to life— I lost it. bawled my expensively placed make up right off. It was absolutely stunning. And every detail, right down to the votive candles in the window sills were right where they should have been. I honestly feel like everyone there worked harder on our wedding than they did for their own weddings. Our guests were blown away. My family is from the east coast so they’re used to weddings that take place in banquet halls and country clubs. I loved the idea of our wedding taking place right in the heart of Capitol Hill. It’s a little rough around the outside (but if you have a good photographer— and we did thankfully— you’ll get some amazing wedding photos out it) but that just makes the inside stand out even more. Every single person commented on how beautiful the space was and how wonderful and professional the Pravda staff was. One thing the guests absolutely loved was seeing our personal photos displayed on 8 computer monitors in the “lobby” area. There was always a crowd gathered around there watching them. There is also a wonderful freight elevator that you can set up as a lounge (as we did.) Some people use it as a second bar or photo booth. There’s tons of little nooks and crannies that you can creative special spaces in.All of our vendors also loved working with Pravda which is hugely importantly. Several had already worked with them and the rest can’t wait to again. One small drawback, it gets warm in there. Normally this isn’t a problem in Seattle but our wedding happened to be on the hottest day of the year (in the 90’s) and even with AC, it was still pretty toasty. They do have 2 industrial sized fans that help quite a bit though. The heat didn’t stop anyone from enjoying themselves. Just something to consider if you’re planning a wedding in the summer. Definitely get the curtains to block out a bit of the sun. That helped a lot.I can not recommend Pravda enough. I feel lucky to have had our wedding here. It would not have been the same wonderful experience had it been anywhere else. If you’re looking for a turnkey, modern, totally unique wedding, then you should definitely consider Pravda.

We booked this space because of the open floor plan, beautiful daylight and our favorite caterer (ravishing radish) uses this space. The large open room was great for dancing and the blank slate/white room had a lot of potential for decorations. The event staff at Pravda were very unresponsive to phone calls and e-mails, you practically have to hold their had to get anything done. A week before the wedding, they suddenly were responsive, but to the other extreme. They bombarded me with stupid details like, where should we rent the lanterns from? Isn't that what I paid you to do? In addition to that, they charge for everything, even turning on the lights. The lantern clusters that we paid for looked really pathetic and weren't in the colors we asked for. They also screwed up the already tinny bit of parking and also our table numbers. The camera in the wireless photo package never made it into the hands of our guests and all of the vertical photos in the slide show were cut off. This room was beautiful on the day of, but all of the headache and lack professionalism by the Pravda staff and management is not worth it. Book somewhere else.

We were really excited to have our wedding reception at Pravda - we had been to an event there and the space was exactly what we were looking for (high ceilings, industrial NY loft), and the original employees we met with were very responsive and professional. We booked Pravda over a year in advance, and in the 1+ year they had so many personnel changes and a high rate of employee turnover that it became incredibly frustrating with work with them.We found that we had to repeat ourselves numerous times to get our vision across, and that each successor had not been brought up-to-speed on our reception plans. The last event coordinator that we ended up with, Liz Kanyer (no longer with Pravda), was totally unresponsive to our emails and didn't show up to two of our scheduled and planned meetings. Finally, the studio manager, Roland Morgan, stepped in literally a week before our wedding reception to facilitate our planning. Even with that, it was a very rocky ride to the finish. Our reception was on a Saturday and since they did not have the space booked Friday, they promised to set up our reception for us Friday afternoon so we could do a walk-through the day before. When we showed up, not only was the space not set up, but Pravda was unapologetic as to why (rental service ended up being late) and did not offer any other solutions. To give Pravda some credit, they did pull through the day of the reception. Everything was set up beautifully and the night went pretty smoothly (a couple of things to fix here and there). Roland Morgan was on-site for part of the evening to make sure everything was going ok.While we appreciated the final push from Roland and the Pravda folks, it was really frustrating and stressful for us to work with Pravda. We were highly disappointed in the quality and level of service that was provided, after we had heard good things about Pravda and were so excited to have our reception there. Unless there are significant changes in structure and ability to retain personnel, I would NOT recommend Pravda to other couples. It was just too stressful and unpredictable to work with them.

I picked this venue because it reminded me of a New York style loft. It has beautiful open windows, hardwood floors and great lighting. Overall I had a positive experience with my event planner at Pravda. She answered all of our questions in a timely manner, was very clear on everything and made our experience a positive one. Drawbacks: they charge for everything...and everything is pricey. For the price we paid to rent the space, I wish they would have let us come in earlier to set up free of charge. Each additional hour is $100. This made things a little hectic but luckily we had plenty of people to help. Also, I wish there would have been a larger bridal suite available. The room is a bit tiny and there are no mirrors, so it was more like a waiting area rather than a bridal suite.

Pravda was my choice because it was a modern, more contemporary venue than most in Seattle. Unfortunately, the customer service was average at best - I had to ask for clarification to questions constantly and did not always get a prompt response. They seemed to be VERY strict on what you could and could not do in the space, chair rental etc...but then when I got their, I quickly realized that was just all a front. They could have cared less that we were there and certainly didn't count the chairs we used. I was a fairly laid-back bride so I didn't sweat it too much, but a very particular bride may find that frustrating. Also, they really nickle and dime you for every little thing you want to use. (i.e. $100+ for a projector) and use of their tables and chairs is extra. The biggest problem - set up. You have to find your own staff to handle all set up. Many caterers will do it, but it's kind of a pain when comparing to a hotel where they do it as part of the cost. Benefit though is that you can really create your own look & feel. Overall, I loved the way the place looked when it was all set up. Things to consider:1. The curtains along the windows all had stains on them and they refused to clean them before wedding season. Definitely a late afternoon/evening venue when there is not a ton of natural light. That brings me to my next point - 2. Really bad lighting (big flourescents.) You really need to bring your own. The one row of party lights across the beam are not enough for night time. 3. No matter what they tell you, IKEA (nor any other place) sells affordable curtains that you can hang from the inner wires to create smaller rooms or drapping. Nor do they carry the right length. They are all too short. Only staging companies could pull it off and they are VERY pricey. If you can do a lot of your own work and don't mind that - it's a great place for pulling off a modern look. But you really have to take the space at face value and not try anything too extravagant or it becomes a pain. No one had trouble finding it though, the parking was nice bonus.

Pravda is a big open space...which meant we could do anything with it. It also means you have to do EVERything with it! They have rentals onsite for tables/chairs. They had tons of staff turnover while we were planning the wedding. The day of the two staff workers told us one area was not available...that was news to us and made it a little hectic as there really wasn't a space for the bride to wait. Also...bathrooms and parking are not suited for larger crowds. The space looked amazing on the day and we were generally really happy with it. Would definitely recommend to others

This was the site that we looked at from the very beginning to have our reception. We were looking for a venue that allowed open catering. We knew that we didn't want your typical reception at a restaurant or fancy hotel. We wanted out guests to feel comfortable.I have to admit we had some problems with Pravda with the weeks coming up to the wedding. The problem was that they had kept changing studio managers during the time frame of when we first put down our deposit to secure our date up to the week of our wedding. So there was a lot of miscommunication. You do though, have to pay extra to rent their tables and chairs. But, you do get your security deposit back right away. We actually received our's back the week while we were still on our honeymoon. All in all, I'd only recommend this place if you're wanting open catering.

Pravda is a beautiful, unique spot for a wedding. We held our ceremony and reception there, which was great for us and our guests. There were a few minor frustrations (don’t expect them to steam the dirty, wrinkly curtains), but overall I’m so happy that I had my wedding there. (Just a note - we were able to bring in any vendors that we wanted, but I’ve heard that now there are only a couple of caterers that you can use.)
Great venue and great staff!
