Publick House Historic Inn
Our wedding at the Publick House was wonderful. The Publick House is a beautiful rustic setting, and the staff is incredibly organized and really know how to make a wedding great. The fact that it is also an inn is wonderful if you have guests coming from a distance. I think having the inn there really made my wedding wonderful becuase no one had to leave - we rented out a small cabin by the motor lodge and the party continued there. The food is delicious, but sadly our photo session lasted so long we didn't get to sample any of the appetizers. Once the wedding got started I didn't have to think about anything - the publick house staff and my DJ kept things running smoothly.
My room and everyones' rooms i visited were beautiful, spacious, and clean. The reception hall was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the staff along with my florist set up the room to look spectacular.
That being said I have only two complaints - My husband and his groomsmen were taking pictures around the inn and when they went to the library, the photographer pulled out a chair and found a dirty diaper - They were a little grossed out.
My second complaint is that we chose the publick house becuase they quote very reasonable rates, but when we finally sat down and talked to the sales staff, we felt like we were being nickled and dimed for everything. All in all i feel like my wedding cost 150% of what we expected, and all those extra expenses were becuase of the publick house. We had to pay a rental fee for black napkins when other colors such as white, red, green, blue, and brown would have been free. We also had to pay a rental fee and an installation fee for chair covers and sashes.
All in all i would recommend the publick house - but be prepared to pay well over the base price that is quoted.
P.S my husband made me say all the mean things - I loved you...
Cake was delicious and exactly what I asked for rustic frosting with sugared cranberries for my winter wedding !
The Publick House was amazing, our wedding was everything we could have asked for and so much more. The staff was amazing from day one all the way through the wedding. Honestly, I never expected planning a wedding from AZ to have in MA would be so easy, they were flexible and were there every step of the way!!!!
We had our reception at The Publick House. It was wonderful! The food was great, service was great, ambience is wonderful there too. We were in Paige Hall & it looked beautiful!! It is very affordable compared to most wedding facilities! All the girls you work with are wonderful as well.
Publick House offered an affordable package that includes many services, which saved us time in our planning process. We chose to have both our ceremony and reception in Paige Hall with the cocktail hour in the Barn. We loved the venue’s rustic feel and had great opportunities for pictures outside. We received many compliments about the food and decor. We were also happy to have a wedding coordinator for the wedding day. Charlene did a great job, very helpful and attentive.
A few blips in the planning process were that our contract wasn’t always updated with the agreed upon details after each appointment. Being out of state, we needed to know that we’re all on the same page so this was important to us. Also, the current policy for discussing cake designs doesn’t allow clients to visit with actual bakers. This made it hard for us because when we were looking for feedback on what’s possible and to brainstorm cake design ideas, meeting with PH managing staff for these decisions was not very productive.
Overall, everything came together on the wedding day and we had a great time celebrating at Publick House with our family and friends. We were very happy we chose Publick...
We are so glad we had our wedding at the outdoor tent at the Publick House. They were very professional and took care of all of the details of the day so that we could just sit back and enjoy!
The Publick House was the perfect venue for our reception. The staff was extremely professional, responsive & pleasant to deal with. If there is one thing that the Publick House knows how to do, it is throw a wedding. We held our reception in the garden tent. The beautiful weather helped, but this was such a pretty setting for our relaxed, country/garden theme. Having the outdoor cocktail hour was key.
We were able to fit about 200 hundred guests along with a band and DJ under the tent (with an extension). The tent did not feel cramped at all. The food was fantastic (definitely recommend the traditional turkey dinner).
We also loved how our guests had the option to stay at the Inn. We held an after party in the cottage up on the hill, which was a blast. We ordered pizza from Sal's and used the fridge for our own beer. The singing and dancing lasted until almost 3am. Last but not least, we hosted a breakfast for our guests in Paige Hall the morning after the wedding, which was fabulous.
I would highly recommend the Publick House! They took care of every last detail, from the perfectly-pressed linens to making sure our gifts were delivered to our room at the end of the reception.
Everyone at the Publick House made planning my wedding a breeze! The staff is wonderful to work with and knowledgeable! I would definitely recommend them to everyone I know! My wedding was beautiful!
The publick house was amazing everything was perfect. They were so helpful and made sure it was as amazing as i visioned it to be. I could not have asked for anything more from them truly everything i hoped for and more! Thank you so much
Shauna & Gary
We chose the Publick House because we knew they would be able to take care of everything no matter what happened. And they did! We live about 3 hours away from them so it's hard to do everything in person, but they were more than flexible to schedule meetings around our schedule, or doing things through email/phone. I have an allergy to dairy and they wend above and beyond by making a separate cake just for me (and few family members who also needed it), but still being able to give the guests at the wedding a delicious butter cream frosting (my husband didn't want to miss that!). The food was amazing! My husband and I both had a salmon dish, and it was cooked perfectly. Other guests tell me that the food was really good too. I had my two nephews in the wedding party (4 and 6), and the Publick House was great at dealing with them. They can be a handful!
It truly was a perfect setting for our perfect day. I wouldn't have wanted my wedding at any other...
The staff at the Publick House, particularly Catherine, Lisa, Josh & Jenna, made planning and executing our wedding day SO EASY! They have the level of expertise that comes from planning hundreds of weddings, without the casualness that makes you feel like just another bride. They thought of things before I even had a chance to ask, and I was able to just relax and enjoy my new husband on our wedding day without a single worry!
I was incredibly pleased with my experience at the PH. Communication was typically quick and professional, and the entire staff (before, during, and after) were a joy to work with. Our guests were treated well, the food was of exceedingly high quality, and I was especially impressed with their flexibility.
Best of all, the PH handles the details and overall organization of a wedding at a standard not typically seen outside of the high-end city venues. With three events and 90 guests, the feat of coordination was truly impressive.
I would recommend the Publick House to anyone planning a...
I wish I could give more than 5 stars for the Publick House! Our wedding was the morning after a record October snowstorm. Power lines were out and the Publick House pulled through for my husband and I. Not only did the run our reception off generators (with only 2 ovens and minimal lighting!), they were willing to host our ceremony if the church wasn't able to hold it! I honestly don't know how many venues would go above and beyond like that. We still had a beautiful reception and our friend and family were amazed at the service we had at the Publick House. The food was even just as delicious as if they had full power! I recommend the Publick House to anyone.
Excellent venue and great food! Very helpful and friendly staff!
This was the perfect venue for my fall new england wedding. The staff was amazing and so attentive. The food was perfect and the service was perfect! Love Cathy & Lisa!!!!
My experience working with the people at The Publick House went above and beyond my expectations. The sales team there, especially Lisa, was so quick to respond to any question I had throughout the entire planning process. Catherine and all the catering folks were awesome and the food there is out of this world. The day of, I had 2 fantastic people working right with me - Josh, our event coordinator (great sense of humor!) and Karlene, our wedding assistant. They both made the day run so smoothly and took care of everything, including hunting down scissors when I realized the tags were still on my wedding gown! If I were to ever have another special event, I would not hesitate to call The Publick House. I can't say enough good things about them!
From the moment we pulled up to the Publick House I knew I had found the place! From the gorgeous grounds at the Hillside Gazebo, the the rustic ambiance of Paige Hall, the FANTASTIC staff, great food/drink, plenty of lodging and a pretty inclusive wedding package, what more could a bride to be ask for?!?!? I personally worked with Catherine and her assistant Lisa, but everyone in the sales office was patient, courteous, and a pleasure to work with when planning out all the fine details of my big day.
Would highly recommend the Publick House to any bride to be, you will not be disappointed!
Absolutely amazing, the staff and venue were priceless.!!!
Everyone was so great! Cathy and Josh both worked very hard to make our day wonderful. The food was amazing. The setting was beautiful! I can't say enough! The only problem I had was I had asked for the tables to be sent with the burgundy dishes and they weren't until my mom asked about it. Then they didnt have enough for all the tables. But to be honest I didnt even notice until I saw pictures!
The Publick House staff were fantastic from start to finish... In our first meeting we were given all of our options and shown around the beautiful facilities. At the tasting, we sampled every single dish we could choose for our wedding, we were shown examples of table settings and even got to tour the honeymoon suites. In our detail appointments, the staff were accommodating, professional and very easy to work with. They happily accommodated our changes to the menu and worked with us to get a hosted bar option we felt comfortable with. On the day, the staff were absolutely amazing, taking care of every detail - all we had to do was enjoy ourselves... and we did. Any food we didn't eat was delivered to our room; our gifts and decorations also were taken to our room for us. My dress was carried around the grounds by the bridal assistant Karen who also kept us supplied with champagne! The grounds were beautiful for photographs and both the Barn (ceremony) and Paige Hall (reception) looked beautiful. I can not recommend them highly enough. Oh, and the food was phenomenal.
We got married 3 weeks ago at the Publick House in the Garden Tent and we couldn't be happier with how everything went! We had excellent service right up the date, being assisted by Cathy O'Brien. She was extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. She worked with us to be sure that all of our expectations for our big day were met. The day of the wedding, everything went smoothly. The tent was absolutely gorgeous, they executed our plans wonderfully. The landscaping was beautiful, providing a fantastic backdrop for photos. The gazebo was a perfect place to capture picture of our day. The food was excellent. We love love love the cinnamon rolls, which are part of the bread basket. We also thought our salad and entrees were delicious as well! We had attendants with us the entire evening, bringing us drinks, appetizers, helping to bustle my dress, etc. All in all, they day went exactly as we had hoped and there is not a thing that we would change! Thank you to all at the Publick House for helping us to have the perfect day!
They were so helpful ! my wedding was amazing! i would recommed them to anyone looking for a beautiful outdoor wedding and tent reception!!!
I would love to have given this venue a perfect 5 but the Event Manager assigned to our wedding was not easy to get ahold of and that was the only thing that we weren't completely happy with. The price was great and the food was DELICIOUS. Our families loved the decor and the fact that they could stay in the Inn and not have to travel to and from another venue! We loved it too, everything in one place............Ceremony, Reception, Bakery for the cake, accomodations for the guests..........So much less stress this way!
My wedding reception at the Publick House was extraordinary. From the first moment that I met with Catherine O'Brien of the Publick House she provide excellent service to me and my wedding planner.
The Banquet Manager, Josh, met with us twice prior to the reception to discuss all our request and The Publick House supported my every request. They went over and above by providing special food for my severe food allergy grandson. The baker even made special cupcakes with special frosting for the children so that my grandson would not feel left out by having something different. By the way, I got to sample the cupcakes and they were to die for.... very, very delicious.
Another request that was out of the ordinary was a special table/children play area be set up. The table was set up low to the floor (allowing the children to sit on the floor while they played), covered with a cloth and all the stuff that I provided for the kids was set out.... The thoughtfulness of the height of the table allowed even the smallest guests to enjoy themselves.
The food was excellent, many options to choose from. The service staff was excellent. We were treated like royalty... Nothing left out and nothing overlooked.
We, on short notice, asked if there was a room available to assemble the centerpieces, they provided this.... we asked to be allowed to tie the napkins, they provided us with all that we needed to do this. We asked for a room where our guests to meet in the evening after the reception, they provided this. MY EVERY REQUEST WAS TAKEN CARE OF....
The Publick House provided my wedding cake... I gave them a picture of what I wanted and they did exactly what I requested. The cake was excellent in appearance and taste.
The Barn (where our cocktail hour was held), Paige Hall (where our reception was held) and the guest rooms at the Publick House are all great!
The Publick House gave me a list of recommended vendors and of the several that I chose to use, they all lived up or exceeded the recommendation.
The staff at The Publick House is exceptional, from the wait staff, to the Banquet Manager to Catherine O'Brien. Even though there were other events taking place before, after and during our reception, I never felt it. I feel that we were treated like we were the only people in the entire place.
I would HIGHLY recommend The Publick House for any event.
The Publick House made it so stress free to plan my wedding with them and even helped me talk to other vendors if I had issues. I would recommend to anyone to plan their wedding with the Publick House! I was able to enjoy my entire day and night and every single guest RAVED about the food, especially because we subsituted the cake for apple crisp! My vendors found it easy to work with them as well which made it equally stress free for me!
We were very pleased with the Publick House for our May 2009 wedding reception. We were looking for a location that had a casual, New England country Inn feel where our guests could also stay over at a reasonable rate and which would accommodate approximately 180 guests. We were living out of state prior to our wedding and did not have too much communication throughout the planning period and we weren't too sure what to expect on the wedding day but we couldn't have been more pleased with everything. From the moment we arrived there was someone unobtrusively by our side to take care of everything -even putting a bandaid on my foot after I scraped it! Two servers followed the bridal party during picture taking, bringing us drinks and appetizers and holding things as needed. The banquet manager made sure to check in with us and was very responsive to any requests. Our guests loved the food, the location, the proximity of the rooms and everything else about the venue.
The catering staff, food managers were exceptional!!!! The wedding planner always returned my calls/e-mails within 24 hours.
The main issue we had was with the onsite wedding coordinator. Every time we decided on something, a new contract was sent out. It took several revisions each time to get correct. It was the same items each time.
On our wedding day, the manager never came to get the bride, a water station that was supposed to be outside was not, a podium was not at the gazebo for our readers, and our cake and ice cream were served in bowls.
All in all, our wedding was gorgeous, despite their short-comings. The food was marvelous.
Amazing food, the guests couldn't stop talking about the freshness and the immense portions. The service was impecable. As bride and groom you feel like royalty. I would highly recommend the Publick House for a wedding, a romantic getaway, or just date night. What a beautiful place!
“Horrific pre-event organization, but on the day, it was perfect.”
It’s quite difficult to know whether to recommend this venue or not. The setting is beautiful – both inside and out. On the day, everything was perfect – the banquet manager took care of everything we requested, and the staff acted discreetly & professionally – the food (including the cake, baked on-site) was delicious & plentiful – we couldn’t have hoped for a better day, and it was all at a very reasonable cost.
Now, the reason we aren’t giving this venue a glowing review is because to get to this point was nothing short of a nightmare. The venue has a wedding coordinator, whose job it is to ease the process of organizing events such as these, however, this person caused us more sleepless nights and lost time than we could have possibly anticipated. Before you strike the venue out completely, we might add that the position changed hands during the preparation of our contract which led to complications that others may not face.
The worst shock came two weeks before the event, when we were informed by the wedding coordinator that our event had been shortened by two hours, and we would need to pay a fee if we wanted them to honor the original duration! And it didn’t stop there… They requested we pay additional surcharges for items that were already included in the contract – all in all, they wanted to charge us 50% more than the price to which we had originally agreed! Four phone calls and ten days later, the venue reluctantly agreed to comply with the terms of the contract that they had signed several months earlier, and the events of the two weeks leading up to the wedding boiled down to nothing more than an infringement of sleep and sanity on the part of the bride and groom to-be.
As we mentioned at the start, the day itself was perfect. If you have no qualms with one of their existing packages and don’t plan to customize it to your personal taste, then you will probably love this venue. Our one piece of advice would be to make sure you receive a signed copy of whatever you agree to in writing. Just in case.

We had a fantastic wedding at the Publick House. I really don't think I could have found a better place for the type of wedding we wanted. We were able to make the wedding last the entire weekend from Friday night rehearsal, brunch on Saturday, Ceremony and Reception on Saturday night and Buffet Breakfast on Sunday.
They were very accomodating and gave us excellent pricing and customized items for us without charging extra fees.
The Barn however really didn't accomodate our guests comfortably for the ceremony. We had about 150 guests. Our ceremony was quick, and no one complained. We did like having everything done at one location, so it did work out for the best.
The reception area had plenty of room including room for a 10 piece band. The food was fantastic.
The staff was outstanding.
We had some confusion on what the wedding coordinator's responsibilities were. A friend of mine was a wedding planner, so she took over and made everything run smoothly. Perhaps it was out misunderstanding and that there really is a difference between a wedding planner and coordinator.
I would highly recommend having a wedding or any type of function at the Publick House. The wait staff and managers are very warm and welcoming and really try to make your event special.
The Publick House did an excellent job with our wedding. We had a pretty tough list of requirements: old New England feel for a fall wedding that would hold up to 250 people and flexible to allow a reception immediately following a 1pm Catholic mass. And of course, easy to work with and wonderful food! The Publick House fit the bill in every way. The planning process went so smoothly, from meetings to the tasting to the actual day of. The food was excellent (the bread baskets were amazing!), the service was efficient and unobtrusive, and the coordination of events was so well done. The packages they offer cover everything from catering to rentals to event coordination to overnight accommodations, even the wedding cake! I highly recommend the Publick House for anyone's wedding.
We had a small wedding (55 guests) so we had the ceremony in the Barn room and the reception in Paige Hall. they set up 1/2 the room with couches & coffee tables so people could relax and it filled up the space so it didn't appear empty. All my guests raved about the food. Squash bisque is Yummy!
