Publix is always consistent which is why I was convinced by all the family to get our wedding cake here, so we did. We had it all planned and they had a copy of the design and things were all set. Apparently, while I was taking pictures the cake came in and was put on a cart by the venue and either publix or the venue because no one is saying who actually did, dropped the cake. I give them some credit for going back and remaking part of it because there are pictures of the cake being dropped and it had to be refrosted and decorated and a new top layer was made. The thing is it looked nothing liek the cake I asked for when the new cake came in the room during the reception. The other issue was that the top layer was set out and apparently had not thawed all the way and just feel apart. I do not have a top layer now which made me sad but they did say they will re make it. We are still waiting to see if they will honor a partial refund. This is not the level of satisfaction we are used to from publix.
Quick note: This is for the Publix bakery in DeLand, FL off of International Speedway.
They were very helpful and the cake was DELICIOUS. We didn't want fondant, and they used buttercream like we requested. Delivery was timely and they placed the cake topper there for us. My only qualm was the piping detail could have been a little better. I am also a perfectionist though, so who knows. We got the "Celebrate with Style" design.
I had used Publix many times in the past for cakes, and had minimal problems that were fixed immediately. The wedding cake, however, was a nightmare when I picked it the morning of the wedding. Do not order the mini-wedding cake!!!!! The cake is miniscule (they said 6", but it's a single layer 6", not a double layer), with an incredible amount of icing to make it appear larger. And, unfortunately, the icing was done badly. I ordered gold metallic leaves which were piped yellow, and the decorator argued with me about the difference between gold and yellow (she states, they're the same color). I had also ordered an additional cake, and although I had brought in the topper and made sure with the decorator that the cake would support it, I double checked it when I picked it up. The decorator said "no way", and finally (with more hesitation), gave me some columns and suggested I could figure something out with them. We ended up buying a third cake to ensure everyone would have some. The staff was slow, unapologetic, and literally, made me late for my own wedding. I submitted a written complaint to Publix, and was called by the bakery manager. She apologized and told me to contact her on my first anniversary and she would "make it right". So, I guess I'll be waiting a year to get another cake......
