Reverend Joe was absolutely the right choice to officiate at our wedding. After contact him to officiate he was extremely helpful and responded to my requests very quickly. I appreciated that he had several ceremonies that we could choose from.. we also could "mix and match" ceremonies. Reverend Joe was a very calming influence on our wedding day, and did a wonderful ceremony. Many of my guests commented about how beautiful our vows were. I highly recommend Reverend Joe!

Hooray, we're getting married! Once my husband and I decided we were going to do a small, intimate wedding in New Orleans, the hunt for an officiant began. I didn't have to look long; I found Rev. Joe Pitzer and the search was over. Joe was responsive and courteous when I contacted him through email and with a $50.00 deposit our date was booked.
Through every step of the way, Joe was wonderful--giving us sample ceremonies to act as springboards for our own personalized experience, sending us advice on getting married in Orleans Parish, and even providing us some gentle pressure to finalize our ceremony when my husband and I were agonizing over the decisions. On our wedding day, Joe provided a calming presence as I tried not to weep all over my soon-to-be husband, and when the material for a reading was left in the car, Joe handled the potentially awkward situation with humor and aplomb. Even our guests remarked on how warm and professional he was. On Monday morning he sent us a scanned copy of our marriage certificate, which has made getting my husband on my insurance and jump-starting the name change process infinitely easier.
I was so glad I found Joe to preside over our wedding, and no matter what kind of ceremony you have planned--religious, non-religious, interfaith, same sex, whatever--Joe is ready to help. I would wholeheartedly reccomend him to any other couple, no matter their walks of life!

Rev. Pitzer was a wonderful choice as the officiant for our out-of-town ceremony. My husband and I were nervous about finding an officiant from two hours away, and were so lucky to find Rev. Pitzer for our big day! Rev. Pitzer was very warm and accomodating to our needs. He provided lots of helpful information on how to go about getting our marriage license and gave us a variety of ceremony options to choose from to tailor our wedding to our personalities. Rev. Pitzer even went out of his way to meet with us about a month before our wedding so we could feel a little more comfortable with him before our special day. Although we had not known Rev. Pitzer previously, we felt as if we had known him for a long time! He's a great choice for your wedding officiant!

Reverend Joe did a wonderful job officiating our March 2013 wedding. We live out of town and I was a little nervous about having someone we had never met perform the ceremony, but Joe has such a warm, kind manner, that it felt very personal and meaningful. He also has a great voice and overall presentation, looked sharp, and was super responsive leading up to the wedding. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. Highly recommended!

Rev. Joe Pitzer was absolutely perfect! He did such a beautiful ceremony for us. He was very helpful with choosing the ceremony and would do any revisions I needed to make it my own. He was very good at getting back with any questions I had. Even though we only met a few times and talked by email he really made it feel as if he was part of the family. His emotion during our ceremony really made everything very special. I would recommend him to anyone!

The experience with Rev Joe Pitzer was fantastic! He was wonderful with communication, had a phone chat set up with me since I live out of state, always quick to respond to emails and was incredibly helpful when putting together the vows for the ceremony. The vows expressed our preference for what we wanted included in the marriage vows while also including the laws set by LA. Rev Pitzer was incredibly kind, patient (we were all late on the day of the wedding!) and very fun . He was also quite dapper in his outfit! I HIGHLY recommend him!!!!!

His words are really meaningful and straight from the heart. We loved Rev. Joe Pitzer. My hubby and I had a simple service (small destination wedding) at the House of Blues on 09.10.11. Joe was on time, had everything prepared and ready. Plus he looked so handsome in this black on black suit. It really was a great fit for our stylish and fun wedding. Additionally, he was super responsive to follow up emails and sent a copy of our license to us in a PDF and everything.

Obtaining a Wedding License in New Orleans or Orleans Parish
Getting married in New Orleans is easy and can be done as a on a weekday, weekend, or before an excursion or cruise leaving from New Orleans.
In New Orleans one can obtain a marriage license and be married on the same day if certain requirements (including that both the bride and groom-to-be are non-Louisiana residents) are met and the license is obtained during weekday office hours.
The closest vital record offices to the French Quarter is 1450 Poydras Street, Benson Towers next to the Superdome, Downtown New Orleans, phone (504) 593-5100, (map) and the Algiers Court House, 225 Morgan St, Algiers, LA 70114, (504)368-4099.
For those who wish to obtain a marriage license elsewhere in Louisiana
A marriage license obtained in any Louisiana parish (county) Clerk of Court office is valid for any wedding ceremony conducted anywhere in Louisiana. Information including locations and phone numbers for Parish Clerk of Court Offices can be found at http://laclerksofcourt.org/clerksofcourt.htm; one should call the office for office hours.
Requirements for obtaining a Louisiana marriage license
You must take with you to the issuing office your identifications and certified copies of both persons birth certificates and all applicable divorce judgments.
No medical tests are necessary.
The license is valid for 30 days. You must present the license to Rev. Pitzer in advance of the ceremony as Rev. Pitzer must complete some portions and return the license to the issuing office.
When you obtain your marriage license you can also order certified copies. You should order at least three certified copies.
Post Ceremony
A wedding ceremony must be conducted before 2 adult witnesses who must also sign the document, as well as Rev. Pitzer, the bride and the groom.
After the ceremony, you will get a complimentary certificate and instructions from Rev. Pitzer on how to order a certified copy after the original is recorded. You must order a certified copy from the Office you obtained the License.
After your wedding the signed marriage license is scanned by Rev. Pitzer and emailed to you. Rev. Pitzer will then mail the signed marriage license to the Parish license that issued the license for processing and recording in the Louisiana State Vital Records system.
Louisiana Vital Records indicates it takes 30 to 40 days to record your marriage. Once Vital Records has recorded your marriage, then you will be able to obtain a Certified Copy, which is required for name changes on Passports, driving licenses, and social security; and for insurance and other reasons.
Obtaining a Certified Copy of Marriage Record
The cost of a certified copy of an executed marriage license is $30.00 payable to the State of Louisiana. You may order the certified copy when you obtain your marriage license. In the case that you do not get a certified copy after 45 days, you should contact the office that issued you the license.
Name Changes
There is a tradition in western culture that brides take the last names of their husbands although it is not a requirement to do so.
You will need to order several certified copies of your marriage certificate from the office you received your license. Usually this is done when you apply for your marriage license by prepaying for certified copies to be mailed to you.
Who You Should Notify that you have Changed your Name
1. A new driver’s license should be obtained by going to your local motor vehicle office with a certified copy of the marriage certificate. They may charge a fee, so you should call before going to get particulars. You may also need to change name on any auto title and auto insurance.
2. A new Social Security Card should be obtained by getting the necessary forms off the web at: http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.html. You can mail-in the completed form, or visit your local SS Office in-person and remember you need to take a certified copy of your marriage license to present to them. You can telephone them for details.
3. A revised Passport can be obtained by going in person to a local office or following the directions on the State Department page at http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri/amend/amend_851.html.
>
4. You will also need to change your name with banks, credit card companies, property owners, and any other agency that has your name on record. Generally by getting the first three above changed, the remaining is easier.
5. Be sure the IRS, Voter Registration, Vehicle Registrations, State Tax Identifications, your insurance agents, and CPA also knows of the name change so that they make the necessary charges to their records too.
