I thought that Sam did an excellent job. I was extremely satisfied with his pictures and his professionalism. He was able to get a feel of what we needed and went from there. My bride had talked to him beforehand and he was able to work closely with her. Given that we met briefly when we came back to Connecticut in June from Phoenix we had a great feeling after meeting him. We were not disappointed in the least and his great pictures are a testament to his talent. His ability to work with our family and friends and with the great videographer Joseph Minasi were highly noteable. Again Sam thanks for capturing a very important moment in our lives and I would highly recommend anyone looking for a wedding photographer to hire him.

Sam did such an amazing job capturing the emotions of our day and we are so pleased with the images we got back. Sam's work really speaks to hiring a professional photographer as well. Because we were having such an intimate ceremony and reception (fewer than 40 people) we went back and forth over hiring a professional from the start. While we got some great pictures and a lot of similar shots from friends, the end quality of these don't compare to the end result of the images we received from Sam, and really makes us happy with our decision. The quality for the price also couldn't be beat (a lot of similarly priced photographers whose portfolios we viewed lacked the character and professionalism that Sam's had).

Several people commented to us regarding Sam's professionalism and friendliness during the day. He really disappeared into the background and only popped in to keep things moving or make sure we were getting the shots we wanted. Hiring Sam was a great decision that we would make again!

My wedding was delayed by 4 hours, and Sam was very flexible in staying late, and sort of going with the flow.
The pictures came out nicely, and Sam's prices were a good value.

It was an absolute pleasure to work along side Sam at Richel & Allyn's wedding at the Union League Cafe in New Haven, CT. Not only does he produce unique, beautiful, and professional work but his cool, calm demeanor and positive attitude made it easy to work with while providing an easy environment for the bride and groom to be photographed in. I think choosing the right person as your photographer is one of the most important decisions when planning your wedding, for the simple fact that you are with your photographer for the entire day- before and during the reception. If your photographer has a great personality, chances are you are going to enjoy spending your wedding day with them- this is not a factor to over look! If you are looking for that combination of great personality and excellent photography- Sam is definitely your choice!

Hello. My name is Sam Chyung and I'm a wedding photographer specializing in documentary style wedding coverage and contemporary portraits. I began my photography career working with a modeling agency where I learned to perfect my skills in lighting, composition, posing, and retouching.

My goal for each wedding is to understand the unique needs of my clients so I can create images and albums that fit their personality. Some clients want strictly documentary while other clients want fun contemporary portraits. Most clients want a mixture of both. I take the time to find out what my clients want and work with them to deliver images that will help them to relive their wedding day 10 year...20 years...even 50 years from now.

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?

I have experience shooting in direct sunlight and dimly lit interiors - the two most extreme environmental conditions for weddings.

Is your media preference film or digital?

I shoot in digital with two camera bodies.

How many photographers do you work with?

When you hire me, I will be the only one who photographs your wedding. I take pride in my work and I wouldnâ€™t want anyone else shooting or editing my photos.

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?

Yes.

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?

I have never missed a shoot or event but if an emergency does occur, I do have photographers I can contact to replace me.

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?

My main camera is a Canon 5D Mark II and my second camera is a Canon 5D Mark I. My two primary weddings lenses are the 85L f/1.2 and 35L f/1.4. Those two lenses allow me to shoot in very low light conditions without using a flash. The 85L is considered the best wedding and portrait lens that Canon makes. For detail shots, I use the 100 f/2.8 Macro and occasionally, when I need the extra reach, Iâ€™ll use my 70-200L IS f/2.8 Zoom.

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?

I always have backup equipment, including two camera bodies and multiple lenses and flashes.

Do you charge for travel?

Yes. I charge $1 for each additional mile over 60 miles roundtrip from Hartford. So, if the location is 70 miles roundtrip, my travel fee would be $10.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?

30 days after the wedding, you'll receive a link to view and download your retouched 8x10 digital images. Why wait for proofs when you can get all the images a month after the wedding?

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?

Yes. I retain the copyright to all images, however, I offer a very generous personal print license with the digital images. You can have your wedding images printed anywhere with no limits on the number of reproductions.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?

I always ask permission before using wedding photos for marketing and competitions. It's the right thing to do.

Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?

Yes. My packages include 8x10 digital jpegs.

Will images be available for viewing online?

The online gallery will remain active until your 1st Wedding Anniversary. You are free to share the link with family and friends.

What kind of albums do you offer?

I offer 8x8, 10x10, and 12x12 Leather Albums. Ask to see a sample when you visit the studio.

When will the client get the final album?

Once the design is approved by the wedding client, it can take the album company up to 2 months to ship the album. They do a wonderful job communicating with me and I pass along the information to my wedding clients.
