After our initial discussion and charter quote price, they decided to add a "wedding fee" which I thought was unprofessional. I asked what it was for and basically got the answer that it was for the extra work they went through dealing with brides and decorations. We had no decorations and I didn't request anything extra, but still had the fee. Oh well, that's what happens when you say it's for a wedding, I guess.
The flexibility rating is due to the fact that you can only charter them during the times they have set for their normal sails. We chose the afternoon sail, which kind of left about an hour on the back end of our time before the reception cocktail hour for us to wait. We ended up just taking more pictures and hanging out with the bridal party, but it would be nice if you could adjust the times for your sail to fit your schedule.
The sailing itself was awesome. Our Captain was Jen and she is great! I would definitely recommend her for your wedding charter. We had an amazing day!
We got married about the 74-foot racing schooner Woodwind. It is a stunning shiny white boat accented with mahogany and chrome. It can hold 48 people maximum, not including the crew. We kept our total (including us) to 40 and the boat felt like it had plenty of space. Schooner Woodwind does about six weddings a year, so they set up and take down things like a total pro. We enjoyed supporting this local family company. Captain Jen is great.
You are required to use their partner caterer, Palate Pleasers, if you want food, but this was a positive experience -- please see my review of them. Palate Pleasers also does wedding cakes and ours was delicious. Water and soft drinks come included in your charter package, as does 18% gratuity. You return your contract with 50% deposit, then email final headcount two weeks before your charter, and submit final payment ten days before. Catering had $25 flat food delivery fee, not taxed. Beth was easy to work with on the contract.
Even though it rained on the day, we still had a great time. A canopy can over center deck, and the crew hands out clear rain ponchos. So we just mellowed out and all pulled together to enjoy ourselves! Great time, and nobody will ever forget it.
