Seasons Distinctive Catering
The important stuff first: on our wedding day, this caterer NAILED IT. The food was delicious and came out hot, and everyone raved about the hors d'oeuvres. The waitstaff was AWESOME -- they were professional but warm, and everyone felt incredibly well taken care of. It could not have been more perfect.
Working with Marc beforehand was usually fantastic. The only thing is that it seems like he's spread pretty thin and his responsiveness wasn't always great -- he always got back to me but sometimes it would be a few days. I'm an email corresponder, and he is probably more responsive over the phone, so I'm allowing for that in my rating. In person he was great -- calm, informed, reassuring.
We wanted very simple linens, chairs, etc., so we were fine with the rental stuff that they had and very happy with how everything looked. I can kind of see how a previous reviewer had a bad experience, though; the book he showed us didn't have a lot of variety. I'm sure they would be fine with you planning to do your own rentals through the company or through a florist, though, if you didn't like their selection.
Everything else was fine, and we felt like we definitely got value for our costs. It was mainly the responsiveness that I would say was my biggest problem with this caterer, and it never was a real issue -- I think if I had called him with anything urgent he would have called me back quickly. The food and the feel they gave my wedding far outweighed any nervousness I felt though; I would definitely recommend these guys.
This caterer underestimated the cost of rentals for our 100 person wedding by $1,500. I do understand that sometimes certain rentals can be more expensive than standard ones, but I was always up front with the caterer about the fact that I wanted the ballroom chairs and pin-tucked linens (the only non-standard items we wanted). This sudden additional charge was made more insulting by the fact that they were very unhelpful in finding the correct linens for us. We eventually had to order our linen rentals through our florist at the last minute because the caterer was being unresponsive to my requests about the linens. So, in addition to the extra $1,500 I had to pay to the caterers to make up for their underestimate (which didn't even include the price of the linen rentals), I had to pay additional money for the linen rentals to my florist. This put the grand total of the caterer's mistake at over $2,000. In the grand scheme of wedding costs in NYC, $2K may not seem like much, but when you have a budget and you think you have everything covered a sudden $2K charge can really cause a lot of stress and extra financial burden. I was mostly disappointed because, whether or not it was dishonest, it made them seem dishonest since I was always upfront with them about the upgraded rentals we wanted. There was no excuse for the caterer to not know the costs since I easily obtained it from the rental companies in NYC once this dispute over the rental estimate began.
On the day of the wedding, the wait staff was excellent - we received many compliments on the food and the service. Unfortunately, the sour taste of the increased rental charge over powers any compliments I can provide to the office staff we dealt with.
The catering was absolutely perfect. Everyone raved about the food. The staff made me feel so well taken care of.
