Elizabeth Chang of Skyla Arts is a very professional makeup artist. Not only was fun and kind, she made me very comfortable when being made up. I was a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding and she did an excellent job doing my makeup. And yes, I did receive many compliments! I will definitely have her to do my bridal make up in the future. I highly recommend Skyla Arts for any one who wants to look gorgeous and stunning on her big day! :)

Liz did my makeup for our wedding and she made me look my best on our special day. The products that she used were ALL great quality and the makeup stayed on for more than 10 hours. I didn't even need to do a retouch! It probably would've stayed longer if I didn't decide to remove it before going to bed! I never got that "cake" look on my face. I loved what she did with my eyes... I wish I could have that stay on forever!
Being Asian, it's hard to find somebody who knows how to work on Asian features.. Especially the eyes. When I saw Liz's website, I felt that she was the one... So I e-mailed her and asked if she could do a last minute trial makeup. The following day, I came to her place and it didn't take me long to feel comfortable with her. She's very friendly and easy-going.
While we were finishing up and I was admiring what she did with my eyes, a crazy incident happened... The building right next to her apartment caught on fire and there was black smoke everywhere! We panicked but I realized one of us had to stay calm so I did. Plus, I had a pre-wedding photo shoot in about an hour and I didn't want to ruin my makeup! Hehe! We ran outside and stayed at the manager's unit, trying to calm each other down. The firefighters came and contained the fire. When it was safe to come down, she took me back to her place and did a retouch on me. Despite that very scary event, she managed to collect herself and finish off with a makeup that made me look like that incident didn't stress me out. She was very professional and she kept apologizing to me... I told her it was definitely not her fault and that she was doing a wonderful job... I remember telling her "Well, at least this is very memorable for both of us" and we just laughed it off. I felt bad leaving her right away but I had a photo shoot to catch. The pre-wedding pictures turned out really great, you couldn't tell that I was scared for my life few hours prior to the photo shoot!
During the wedding day, I had a few minor problems that morning and was running late for my hair and makeup session. Liz was very nice and patient... She waited for me at the hotel and I felt so bad for making her wait. When we got to the hotel, she immediately went straight to doing her stuff and as expected, she did an amazing job on my makeup. She did my stepmom and my mother-in-law but because we were running late on schedule, they rushed her into getting the makeup done. I had to leave and I didn't know about this until my friends told me few days later. I felt so bad. They didn't really have to do that because I wasn't going to start with the wedding without the mothers. Anyway, she made the moms look young and pretty! I loved their makeup too, even though she had to do it in a rush. Sorry Liz.
Overall, I would say she has all the great qualities to be a successful makeup artist. She deserves the 5.0 star rating that I gave her. Trust me. She does. I wish she didn't have to move up North, I wouldn't have mind if I had to pay a few extra bucks to get my makeup done with her for any other special occasions.

It was an absolute pleasure working with Liz. She is very charismatic and I felt extremely comfortable shooting with her.
I had a clear idea of the types of moods and poses I wanted her to capture, and Liz found my best angles and captured everything artistically.
She is also a very skilled makeup artist, and used exclusive products purchased from Japan. She was patient and responsive to my makeup requests, and gave me better advice about my acne-prone skin than my dermatologist. She was punctual and never complained.
I loved the finished product! Her touch ups and color schemes made me look like a character from a fairytale.

Liz did an amazing job on my make-up. I have mild to moderate acne and acne scars, and she was able to make my skin look flawless without it looking cakey. She was also very responsive to my concerns about the type of make up I wanted. I was also very pleased with the pictures she took at our "engagement shoot". She's very easy going and let us choose what kinds of pictures we wanted to take. She also did a great job with editing the photos. I would highly recommend her services!

Best make-up artist I've ever had! She listens to your preferences and adapts her make-up to your comfort level, dress colors, and event type. The results were amazing, the make up was extremely comfortable and lasted all day, and I looked great in all the photos the photographers took! In addition I received so many compliments for the make up alone (I think even more so than my dress!). Definitely highly recommended!

Expert make-up artist, very professional, courteous, and best of all, listens to the customer's wishes and matches makeup to skin & accessory tones to perfection! My husband thought that was the best make-up he's ever seen on me!
We've always admired the work that Liz has done, regardless if it is her bridal or commercial work. We were excited to finally work with her this year. As expected, it was a great experience. We got to see Liz in full force action - this girl sets the bar high! She has the ability to identify and bring out each girl's uniqueness with her magical touch. She pays a lot of attention to all the details because she genuinely cares about her clients. On top of being very skilled, her soft voice and warm personality makes the experience stress-free and extra enjoyable. We would recommend Liz to any brides looking for an amazing makeup and hair artist that will make you look and feel like a princess on your most important day!
Elizabeth does fabulous work! Our bride from Los Angeles specifically requested Elizabeth, who's all the way up in the Bay Area to come down to LA to do the make up. It was totally worth it too. Elizabeth knows how to bring out the best in her brides and that is extremely important to us; as wedding photographers we know that if the brides are not happy with their makeup.... the rest of the day is all downhill. Elizabeth provided us a super happy bride to work with and we can't thank her enough! We highly recommend Elizabeth Chang!
About Skyla Arts | Makeup & Hair
My style is more natural to glamorous. My philosophy regarding beauty is that as long as the client feels comfortable with how they look, then they ARE beautiful. Whatever works for them!
I am also a photographer; I understand that you might feel hesitant to go to a vendor that does more than one specialty. However, I wanted to boost your confidence in me by sharing that while I don't do all kinds of photography, I understand
what kind of makeup is needed to show up beautifully on camera and film.

FAQ for Skyla Arts | Makeup & Hair
My husband and I had a budget, and it was important for us to stay within our wedding budget. My advice is to reserve the bulk of your budget to what matters to you most and save on the things that may matter to you less. With inspiration images and bridal magazines, some of those weddings may have a $100,000 budget for the day - you need to do your research to make sure your budget meets your expectations.
I could not have survived my wedding without my wedding coordinator/wedding planner - he or she will tell you what to expect and what you can get with your money. For me my coordinators were worth every cent - they were amazing and I was able to enjoy my day, and it was relatively stress-free!!! All of my other vendors minus one (the only weaklink!) were amazing - but again, I go back to the quote above - I got what I paid for, but not more than what I paid for.
Another analogy I love from a fashion photographer I've had the pleasure to know - wedding vendors come from all shapes and forms and different price ranges - "Is it Dior or Old Navy? Is it a Alexander Mcqueen handbag, or a Forever 21 handbag?" Of course these are a bit extreme, but shopping for vendors is pretty much the same concept: which end of the spectrum does the vendor belong? is it in the middle? do their prices reflect that? If you pay for an Old Navy shirt, expecting Dior quality is simply unrealistic.
