Terri provided creative ideas, assisted in the planning, advised us on protocols, coordinated the vendors and managed the details. When obstacles arose, she handled them with great determination and tact. The result was a wedding weekend that was virtually flawless from the Friday rehearsal dinner through the Saturday wedding and the Sunday family brunch. We could not have done it without her. My wife and I give Terri and her staff our highest recommendation.

Terri and Janice were the best planners. We did all by email and phone calls and Terri knew exactly what we were looking for. I did flew in Terri to attend our wedding in Cancun Mexico and she took care of everything. Takes to Terri and Janice to make our day the best day ever.

I don't even know where to begin when reviewing Terri because we honestly could not have done it without her (and Nikki and Janice!)
On our modest budget (which kept changing) she helped us put together an amazing wedding. I was worried I wouldn't be able to afford a wedding planner but after talking with Terri at a Bridal show and then sitting down with her and my then fiance to discuss what we needed, she assured us she could take care of everything at a price we could handle.
She was ALWAYS available to answer our many questions about the planning process and did so in a very timely manner. She helped us find almost all of our vendors and everyone she recommended did an amazing job as well. Since we were planning an out of town wedding, about an hour 1/2 from where we currently live, she would contact vendors and set up appointments for us all in the same day to reduce our travel time. She also helped keep us on schedule and was always conscious of our budget.
The minor bumps that did occur in our planning process were quickly smoothed over...like tornadoes that are not indigenous to our area hitting one of our hotels a week before the wedding.
On the day of the wedding if anything rocky behind the scenes happened, the groom and I never knew about it. The professionalism of Janice, Nikki, and Terri on that day was unparalleled. Everything went to smoothly and it was a perfect (though very rainy) day.
We highly recommend Something Borrowed Something New to anyone planning a wedding big or small, you won't be disappointed.
PS did I mention she also helped plan our honeymoon??? Oh, and that was amazing too :)

Thank you Glenn and Kasey for this lovely review. Wedding Planning is truly a partnership between the Planner and the couple. When everyone is engaged, dreams are fulfilled, but that couldn't have happened if you hadn't been so involved. You two were a wedding planner's dream and it was such a pleasure to be with you on your big day. Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of this with you. Wishing you and Glenn a lifetime of happiness except for perhaps when the Bears play the Pats. I'd like to be the one that gloats this season. :)

Aww Sweetie, thank you so much for these lovely words. You became like my daughter through this and I know your Mom would have been so proud of you. She was definitely looking down from heaven that day and gave us the wonderful weather even though the forecast was for thunderstorms. You and John will be lifelong friends and I can't wait until you're back in the U.S. or we're in Ireland so that we can spend some time together. Maybe we'll be planning a baby shower next? It seems to be a trend with our brides. :) Much love, Terri

I really wanted a candy bar to serve as a favor at our wedding, but needed help figuring out exactly what to do. My hotel's wedding coordinator recommended asking Terri, and what she came up with was beautiful. She put everything together in less than 3 weeks, and she also helped us find our ceremony music and gave us ideas about other things. I can only imagine if they planned a wedding it would be out of this world!

We worked with Terri and she was awesome. She went out of her way to work with all the vendors who were more than 10hrs away from us. She had put together a wonderful timeline that the party was able to successfuly execute. She was instrumental to our weddind day!!!

Terri and Janice were fabulous! Terri saved the day by checking in with the Church and realizing they had misplaced all of our information. Everything worked out well and we have a wonderful wedding.

Terri and Janice are amazing women! We hired them for day of wedding services. When everything was said and done, we had them the whole day of the wedding, the night before, and at least three other meetings with them, not counting an endless chain of emails and phone calls. They really took the time to make sure that everything was right for our day and that we would have the best wedding possible. They helped to solve problems, smooth over snags, and help us to enjoy our wedding day virtually stress free. We absolutely could not have pulled of such a terrific wedding without them, and everyone that we invited who spoke to Terri and Janice agreed that their services were invaluable.

Something Borrowed, Something New Events saved my wedding! I only had 8 months to plan the wedding, and SBSN made the planning so much easier. It is so hard to find vendors who do the best work, not charge you extra, and will be dedicated to the job. Having a planner as great as SBSN makes the process a lot less scary because you know that you are in great hands and that you are getting the very best with everything. Janice, with SBSN, helped me with EVERYTHING! She was the ideal person to have with you during the planning process and on the big day. She helped me stay on track with my budget, find vendors, negotiate prices, and make sure I had everything that I needed and more. I must admit that I went into this process thinking I didn't need a planner. I was dead wrong. Not having a professional help you makes the process 100 times more stressful. There are a million things that go into a wedding, and you don't want the weight of all of that on your shoulders. You want to think about your special day, not worry about all the details that go into that day. You want peace of mind that all those things are covered and you can enjoy the one day in your life that goes by way too fast already. Janice is not only professional, but one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. She is the person you want by your side on the big day. I was living in San Diego planning a wedding in Vail with my wedding planner in Boston. Destination weddings are SO hard to plan and everything would have fallen apart on my wedding day if it wasn't for her. Everything went off seamlessly in Vail and I had the best wedding. Friends and family still tell me how amazing the wedding was, and I tell them it was Janice! And, with SBSN you aren't just another bride, you are a friend. They give you the best quality attention and care. And, you can change your mind 100 times and they are patient, understanding, and kind. Just ask Terrie! I changed my honeymoon plans 100 times on her, and she never got irritated, she just continued to deliver. They both have the best inside information and deals, and you really do save money with a wedding planner. This is one day in your whole life. Do it right and go with the best - Something Borrowed, Something New Events!

From the first meeting Terri asked all the right questions and honed right in on what my daughter and her fiance wanted for their wedding. To say that the wedding had an ecclectic theme and not your run of the mill traditional wedding would be an understaement. The best way to describe their day. Terri and Janice, her associate, embraced all their ideas and desires and guided them along the way to their wonderful wedding day.
The wedding was a destination wedding in a rural setting in Amherst. The venue, The Red Barn on the campus of Hampshire college was beautifully decorated as was the site of thier outdoor wedding.
My daughter, her husband and I all work full time and we were confident that Terri would create the right atmosphere for them. Terri and Janice's work met their expectations and more.
In addition, we used a number of Something borrowed and Something New's preferred Vendors, Fee Bain, Nicki Davis and Molly Shea. Molly made beautiful peacock feather bouguets, a cake topper of peacock feathers that stood out from a more traditional bouquet of flowers. Nicki Davis made 3 beautiful baskets for me, 2 for the restrooms and 1 for my daughter. She even included walking tour cards San Francisco where the couple will be honeymooning.
I can't say enough about Fee Bain, who was a master at creating and making all the groomsmen's outfits and my daughter's wedding gown. It was fascinating to watch as she worked with my son-in-law to make the outfit that he was wearing and had all the elements and colors that made him shine on his wedding day. My daughter sparkled and floated through her wedding day and I was so pleased to see how Fee took her vision of a dress and made it a reality. Thank you Fee.
I would highly recommend Terri and Janice to anyone who is planning a wedding. I got to enjoy every minute of my time leading up to the the day of wedding and the day itself. That time was a priceless gift that I will forever appreciate.

This was the second time that I used something borrowed, something new. The first time was for my daughters wedding, which they did an excellent job with. We were not disappointed using them again!! I found SBSN extremely helpful in planning my daughter's wedding. Terri and Janice were kind, patient, creative, and caring. They really knew how to deal with a nervous bride and her mom. SBSN came ready to do whatever we needed and wanted. Communication was continuous and prompt -- I never had to wait long for a response to one of my questions. As a client, I feel the service provided was of the highest quality. Terrific vendors were recommended to us and they were all excellent, as well. I feel it was the best investment I made in planning my daughter's wedding. Would I recommend SBSN to another bride-to-be? Absolutely!

Terri Altergott of Something Borrowed, Something New, took our limited budget and planned ceremony/reception site and transformed it into an amazing wedding venue. She transformed Day Pond State park in Colchester CT into a eloquent, beautiful, wedding venue. Her expertise. professionalism, and ability to create took a hill side by the pond and created an equsist ceremony cite. Then using these same characteristics she transformed an outdoor pavilion into a gorgeous reception venue. Incorporating all the colors and wishes we had she made our day one we will never forget, she even went above and beyond our expectations doing more than we could have asked or wished. A very, very special thanks to Terri Altergott and her assistants in taking our vision to a new and exciting level allowing for our day to be extra special.

As the mother of the bride, trying to plan a weekend-long destination wedding I knew that I needed some help. From the moment I met Janice and Terri at Something Borrowed Something New, I knew my prayers were answered! They were so much fun to work with - one step ahead with the planning all the way! My daughter had a story-book wedding and I was able to enjoy every single moment - thanks to Something Borrowed Something New. Their commitment to the end result is phenomenal - and they dot every "I" and cross every "T" along the way. They are professional and have access to everything you ever need in the planning process. What stands out for me is their ability to so quickly get a feel for what the bride is envisioning - what details would make her day one she will never forget. Then they take it and run with it in every direction! So creative and resourceful.
My daughter's wedding was at 3 pm on a scorching hot day in August - and with so many details to attend to at home the morning of her wedding (wedding party, hair, make-up, pictures, etc.) I never arrived to the ceremony and reception location until minutes before the ceremony started. And guess what? I never once worried that something would be wrong - I knew Janice and Terri were there taking care of it all! Peace of mind. . . it's priceless!!!
In the planning process, there were several perfect places at the wedding location for my daughter's ceremony. The waterfront was the least perfect - but my daughter's dream was to arrive to her ceremony by boat. Well - Janice and Terri were determined to transform this ugly waterfront area into something beautiful. It was breathtaking! Everywhere I looked there was another small detail that they thought of. Buckets of water for thirsty guests on a hot afternoon, taking care of the needs of our elderly guests, amazing decorations on the boat. . . where did they find the time to get all this done?! Then when the ceremony was over and we walked up to the cocktail hour -- I couldn't believe how breathtaking everything was. The transformation was incredible.
What happened next? My husband and I enjoyed every minute of my daughter's big day. Terri and Jancie had things running so smoothly and kept everything on track - from the introductions, speeches, first dance - right to the last dance!
Hiring Something Borrowed Something New Events was the single best decision I made - out of literally hundreds of decisions that were made.

Janice Ockerby surpassed all expectations and the help she gave the day of
the event was tremendous. She first started by asking what my vision was on
the event and then an email with needed items was created immediately. This
kept me focused and relaxed that I wasn't going to miss a thing with
Janice's Guidence. Janice was right with me decorating the room to
organizing the flow. I couldn't have done it without her ingenuity and
creativity and most of all, her attention to detail made the event the hottest
party of the year! Looking forward to hiring Janice/Terri's expertise on my next event!

Something borrowed, something new events made my dream a reality. My husband and I got married a few weeks ago and our day was exceptional. Terri and Janice helped me through all the struggles and obstacles that we faced with our wedding. They took care of everything form our fifteen day destination wedding in cancun to the reception here in the states. We faced many obstacles with the swine flu and almost anything you can possibly imagine and they were there every step of the way to straighten it out so that our day could be everything we wanted and more! They could not have been more helpful. Everytime I called with a question, comment, or concern my call was returned promptly. They have great ideas and can work within a budget with no sacrifice on what you want. They took care of a lot of the leg work so that I could concentrate on things like finding a dress. They helped to make phone calls and confirm dates and times and whats needed from the vendors. Thanks so much Terri and Janice for making my day a day to remember! If your looking for a wedding planner look no further they are the best, let them make your day as special and perfect as ours was. ~Lindsay and Bryan

I could not have asked for better service from Terri. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. Having a destination wedding certainly provided unique challenges but Terri was able to make everything incredibly easy for me. Terri had custom made centerpieces, favors and more all sent to Mexico for us. When we arrived at the reception the tables were gorgeous. I didn't have to lift a finger and she some how managed to have everything taken care of. I would highly recommend Something Borrowed, Something New Events. I wish I could get married all over again every year and this is all thanks to Terri.
Terri Altergott does an amazing job on every level! As a Wedding Officiant, I work with many planners. What sets the good ones apart from the exceptional ones is the relationships they are able to establish with their clients and the other professionals they utilize.
Terri & Janice are phenomenal at this. Not only do they make you feel as if you are the most important person they are working with, they do it with great warmth and eloquence. They understand that their job is to make your experience fun, special and stress free...I highly recommend them!
Something Borrowed, Something New Events was amazing to work with, this from a fellow vendor's perspective as the photographer. I shoot lots of weddings every single week all year long through New England and I must say I have not seen planners (yes, there were two!) attend so articulately to every last detail. The bottom line for me is that this particular wedding was the smoothest running large scale wedding I ever been involved in... and I now know that it was in no small part to the efforts extended by Terri and Janice on behalf of the equally wonderful clients that hired them. If you want your dream day to go according to plan, want someone there to help with every single large, as well as tiny detail, along the way, then there is but one choice; to call Terri at Something Borrowed, Something New Events.
Sincerely, Russell Caron, Russell Caron Wedding Photography, Portland ME www.wed-pix.com
Flawless planning, an eye for detail, truly a pleasure to work with!
I had the distinct pleasure to work with Terri and Janice from Something Borrowed, Something New Events during a wedding I photogaphed in Poland, ME in August of 2009. Communication is key to ensuring a successful event. Terri, Janice and I had several occasions to do just that. I attribute their organizational skills and hands on approach to the event's success. The event went off without a hitch. Great Planning. Thank you.
I highly recommend Terri and Janice. I look forward to working with them again.

FAQ for Something Borrowed, Something New Events
The first thing you need to do is decide on a location and then you need to research the laws surrounding a non-resident marriage in that locale. Some locations require you to be in residence for a specified number of days prior to the wedding itself and it's not unusual for Saturday and Sunday not to count when figuring that detail out.
Some countries have better email systems than others, so if you've written to a specific resort and they haven't responded, it may very well be that they never received the initial email that you sent. This is just one reason, you really need to pick up the phone and give them a call. You will need an International calling package (if you don't have one already) that you can add to your local phone service in order to place a phone call out of the country. While email is wonderful, it really is nice to connect with your resort's wedding planner over the phone to discuss the details of your upcoming wedding, especially if you've never visited this resort previously.
Airlines are now limiting the weight and number of luggage pieces you can take with you. Added charges and size requirements are now pretty much the norm. If you need to ship items down to your destination prior to your wedding, please check that country's laws surrounding shipments. You don't want to ship something and have it get hung up in customs. Further, only ship your packages with a company that allows you to track that package as it makes it's way to it's final destination.
These are just a few of the details you may not have considered thus far, but they are important considerations if you're to truly have the wedding of your dreams. Another important component to consider is wedding or travel insurance. With the service that I use to handle destination weddings, they have a "no questions asked" insurance policy that's included in destination wedding travel packages. That means you can cancel your trip at anytime as long as your plane hasn't left the gate for any reason. You're going to be spending a lot of time and money on this wedding, and having this kind of insurance in place goes a long way to providing you with peace of mind.
As you can see, the devil truly is in the details. If all of these details are starting to overwhelm you, perhaps it's time to hand the responsibility over to a Professional. We're here to help you find the perfect destination in a price range you can afford, and through the end of 2009, we offer that assistance free of charge.
Please give us a call at (508) 277-6597 or feel free to email us at SBSNevents@aol.com. We're very happy to discuss your wedding dreams with you and identify how we can help those dreams become a reality. One other thing, you don't have to be in the New England area to work with us on your destination wedding. While that's ideal, we can get the job done at a distance too. We wish you both all the happiness in the world and look forward to getting to know you better.
Best Regards,
Terri Altergott and Janice Ockerby
