My husband and I are so glad that we chose Sound in Motion. The whole group is incredibly professional and really has its act together. Our DJ worked with us to plan our music and really tried to understand the vision and atmosphere of our wedding. So many of our guests commented on how great he was! Our DJ wasn't overly involved (which we liked), but he did exactly what we needed of him and he kept people on the dance floor.

I never worried once about not having a back-up or equipment failure; SIM always has a DJ on call with extra equipment ready. Our DJ arrived 2 hours before the ceremony began and we felt really confident in him. Perhaps they are pricey (I think it was around $1000 for the whole wedding), but I don't have much to compare to.... but I really think it was worth it!

King Raffi is the one of the most professional DJs I've had the pleasure to work with. I've been in the industry for over 20 years and he is at the top of my list of Preferred Vendors. He has a smile that fills the room, a maturity to handle every situation, and the creativity to fulfill the bride and groom's musical requests. Do not plan your budget with a cut-rate DJ, hire the professional that will provide the seamless event of your dreams.

Adrian Calvin was an EXCELLENT DJ. The party did not stop thanks to his influence of music. We did not give him any list, just told him the type of music we like and did not like, and he did not veer off of that, and he had everyone on the dance floor all night long!

If you are getting married in the Santa Cruz/San Jose/San Francisco Bay area (or anywhere you can get these guys to travel), and you want the absolute best of the best, you need Sound In Motion. Adrian was our DJ and Master of Ceremonies, and I couldn't imagine a wedding going more smoothly, a more fun and perfectly coordinated reception, and an overall wonderful experience that was absolutely at Adrian's hands. This company does it right, and they should be the standard of the industry. I went to a number of weddings besides my own last summer, and a bad DJ can really ruin a nice time. The price was worth it, and surprisingly not as much as I'd have expected for the value of Adrian's professionalism, skill, and enhancement of our day. We're still waiting on our wedding video, five months later, so we'll have to reserve comment on the quality of videography for now.

Great DJ who went above and beyond his job duties to make sure everything ran smoothly. I went to a friend's wedding and she used the same company with a different DJ and he was excellent as well. Rented AV equipment from them as well for a slideshow.

Awesome DJ, made the event run smoothly and the music was great. Andrew was great to work with, not cheesy at all, very cool and professional.

From the very first phone conversation I was impressed with Sound in Motion. Professional, responsive, thoughtful, helpful, patient, courteous. We met with Kaveh (our DJ) on two occasions prior to our wedding, and communicated several times more via e-mail and phone to finalize details. The music was perfect. Kaveh put together music for our pre-ceremony cocktail party, the ceremony, dinner, and then dancing. One of the things that impressed us the most was how seamless he made it, especially for the ceremony. With our (limited) guidance, he put together music to set the mood as guests transitioned from the cocktail hour to the ceremony, then wove together the two requested songs for our processional and the songs for the recessional. Like I said, Perfect. He also astutely read our guests and the mood of the evening, from background music while guests ate and visited to the right blend of dance music. Kaveh is such a pro. He made suggestions for things we never would have thought of. He/they worked well with our other vendors. Also impressed with the company's efforts to check out the venue before the event to ensure proper and efficient set up (they also provided mics for the outdoor ceremony and for the toasts). If I could give them six stars above, I would. I highly recommend Sound in Motion and Kaveh.

Henry was our DJ for our wedding and he was wonderful. I was very particular about the versions of the songs and the part of the songs I wanted to use for the ceremony and the dances and he got them all right! He was willing to meet with us and discuss the day a few times so I was comfortable to let go of my controlling ways. By the time the wedding came I knew we were in good hands and it was nice to not have to worry about it during the wedding.

Adrian was the perfect DJ/MC for our wedding, he is friendly and has that 'announcer' voice that would be good for movie previews :-)They provided a projector and had live photos projected on to a screen it really gave the event space a great feel.I would highly recommend sound in motion for all your sound needs.

Adrian Cavlan brought our wedding to life!! Three weeks post-wedding, our guests are still commenting on how amazing he was. Meetings leading up to the wedding were both comfortable and productive - he, and Sound in Motion, create an ideal balance of professionalism and passion for what they do. Adrian took time to discover our music preferences and executed perfectly on wedding day - he truly provided the motion of the evening, and left our guests calling for hours more! Another important aspect was the correct pronunciation of names. Some of ours were fairly unique and he took time to learn them and announce them proudly and flawlessly on our big day. We couldn't have been happier with the entire experience of working with Adrian and Sound in Motion and recommend them with absolute confidence to anyone looking to throw a wedding, anniversary, holiday party, or any other celebration. I cannot say enough in praise of DJ Adrian Cavlan with Sound In Motion. I began interviewing DJs for my daughter's September 2011 wedding about 8 months out. I was planning my daughter's wedding from long-distance, and I found SIM from the referral list from the Venue where the wedding and reception was being held.. I am so glad that this was the case, as I feel this gave me a HUGE advantage. Initially, I looked around on their website, and if first impressions mean anything, I was impressed!! Still, anyone these days can pay someone to design their website, so i planned on reserving final opinion for when I called on the phone to ask some questions. Immediately, Adrian and I connected. He was a few hundred dollars more than some of the other DJs who work for SIM, but I felt so comfortable after speaking with him, that I didnt want to trivialize that by going straight for the least expensive DJ. Sometimes you get exactly what you pay for!!. I should also point out that Adrian offered a bit of a discount for a Friday wedding, so that made it easier not to cut straight to the cheapest and ask myself how well I could do for the price. Anyway,. I was never made to feel like I was being pressured into deciding on the most expensive things, or like I was being sold more than I really needed, and I appreciated that! A few weeks before the wedding, my daughter, my SIL and myself met with Adrian to go over all the details. I was impressed with the attention to detail that Adrian took in pinning down all the details of the reception, and the bridal party. My daughter had no idea there were so many things to coordinate( as this is her first wedding), and she was very impressed, as was I, at how Adrian pulled all these pieces together. Adrian did a fantastic job at getting to know the couple and suggesting music that would for their personality for their cocktail hour and beyond. we wanted to represent various types of music, but the trick was doing this seamlessly and tastefully. In addition to this, Adrian did a great job at suggesting ways to get thru the etiquette issues of a modern family wedding, and this was very appreciated, as no one wants to feel awkward. My daughter had her heart set on a song by a local santa cruz artist and friend--Chris Renee of recent XFactor fame-- for their first dance, but it was much faster of a tempo for a typical first dance song. I had no idea this was even possible, but Adrian fixed the tempo and slowed it down considerably. Suddenly, it was a perfect tempo and my daughter and her fiance were thrilled!! The wedding itself was awesome. I had a stings trio arranged to play the ceremony music for their outdoor ceremony, but Adrian provided all the PA for the ceremony as well, which was a huge relief since I knew that entrusting this detail to him was something I could feel good about.. one fewer thing for me to coordinate!!. I was very impressed with Adrian's skill at MC'ing the ceremony, it was obvious that he has a great deal of experience with this. But additionally, it takes a special person to develop a tasteful rapport with a particular crowd, and i felt like Adrian accomplished this beautifully! I very much appreciated that Adrian came to me and asked me before he promised he would play a request of a guest, since he wanted to make sure that I considered it appropriate. We hadnt planned on having a money dance, but a guest asked him about it, and before playing a song and announcing this, Adrian came to me and asked me about this too. I am glad that i wasnt caught off guard with these issues, ass Adrian had it covered. It is my opinion that nothing else sets the tone for a wedding (other than the venue itself)--the DJ services has the power to make or break the event, and I am glad that I trusted our day to Adrian. I only regret that I hadnt made the videography services that they offer a priority. It was a perfect day!! I received sooo many compliments about the music and the MC services and I will continue to HIGHLY recommend SIM to anyone who has the highest expectations for their event! NO REGRETS!!! absolutely perfect! Thanks so much ADRIAN CALVAN and Sound In Motion!!

Sound In Motion is hands down the best DJ Service in the Santa Cruz area. I had the pleasure of having Adrian Cavlan (co-owner) be my DJ (and master of ceremonies). He will do as much or as little as you want. He is truly a class act and knows his stuff! A DJ can make or break a party and it was really important for me to have someone who could relate to "all" my guests (old, young, and the fun). His online website was easy to use (to organize your thoughts, music ideas, dedications, etc...) and he was very responsive to all my emails, questions, & last minute changes. He also provided me with "mood" lighting which helped create great ambiance and back lighting. He was able to mic my officiant. Really....you cannot go wrong with Sound In Motion!! Worth every penny! In fact, I wish I could get married again and dance all night long!

Andrew Rivas was our DJ from Sound in Motion and he did an amazing job! He really read the crowd very well, and played music that everyone wanted to dance to. He kept things fun the entire night, and kept the reception flowing nicely! Since I was planning my wedding from across the country, he was very accommodating, and always welcomed my many questions :) Very professional service, and I would highly recommend this company to all brides! (Request Andrew Rivas as your DJ and you won't be disappointed) ;)

We had our wedding this past August and we are so happy that we chose Sound In Motion to provide us with our music and videography service. They are such a great company and work with you every step of the way to make sure you have the perfect music at your wedding. They provide you with an online account and you are able to log in as much as you want until a few days before your wedding to pick music for every part of your ceremony and reception. This definitely helped especially when you are finalizing all details the week of the wedding. :)Our DJ was Raffi Nalvarian and he is the BEST!!! He has such a great personality and we felt like we had known him forever. He was just a blast to be around and really made our wedding so lively and fun! He totally fit right in with our family and friends. :) He was able to read the crowd and see what type of song to play next. And his commentary in between songs was entertaining. :) But the best part was our entrance into the reception as Mr. and Mrs. We are HUGE San Jose Sharks fans so Raffi suggested we come in to the song "Seek & Destroy by Metallica, which is the same song the Sharks enter the arena to. Then Raffi through in the Sharks goal horn and the goal chant! :) It was AWESOME!!!!! :) Definitely got our guests pumped! :) It is very clear that Raffi enjoys what he does and that he is so good at it! :) He made sure everyone was having a great time and he made me feel so at ease the whole night. I never once had to worry about the music. Everything went off without a hitch! :)And Giovanni and his crew did a great job videotaping our wedding. We have not yet seen the video. We can't wait to see it! I am sure it will be amazing. They made sure to capture every moment from our special day! :)We would most definitely recommend Sound In Motion for your music and videography needs. They have amazing customer service and want to make sure the music for your wedding is everything you imagined it to be. You won't feel stressed at all and will enjoy working with them for sure, especially Raffi! :)

On of the most amazing aspect of our wedding was our DJ. He created such a beautiful music list and captured the exact vibe we wanted! He went over and beyond and we HIGHLY recommend him!!! You will not be disappointed with his services.

Adrian did a fantastic job at our wedding! He's professional and fun at the same time. He did a great job picking songs, responding to the crowd, and keeping the dance floor going, as well as incorporating our requests. And just as importantly, he's great as an announcer and MC (very important!), which I realized was a big factor in our dinner and toasts going seamlessly. I can recommend him without hesitation!

My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Raffi at our wedding last weekend. Words cannot express how much fun we had and what an awesome party it was. Sound in motion, and Adrian specifically, made our wedding reception! He went above and beyond to find any song we wanted, and play them! More importantly, he read the crowd and made sure that everyone heard something to get them onto the dance floor, with an incredibly diverse age and musical preference range! People were always on the dance floor through the last song! Thanks Adrian! I would definitely use Adrian again, we are even considering paying his expenses to have him come to Santa Barbara for a holiday party!

My groom and I didn't need to meet with anyother DJ after we met Andrew. He told him what we wanted for the wedding and he was amazing. During the wedding he was super organized and I didn't have to worry about a thing with him. He kept everyone dancing and did a great job at keeping the flow. He also stayed late to continue to play music for us past the time we had requested him. He said with a smile, "I'll stay as long as you need me to." The music was perfect and so was our DJ!

Oh, how I love these guys!! I have worked with Raffi and Adrian in the past as part of my San Jose Sharks Event Coordinating days... and I cannot say enough about them. When I got engaged, I knew one thing for sure - I wanted Raffi to DJ my wedding.Raffi was amazing. I literally got TONS of compliments about him after my wedding. One thing that most people commented on was that he kept the party going. If the crowd wasn't "feeling" a song and starting to dwindle down, he didn't wait for the song to end like your typical DJ. He faded it out and went immediately into a crowd pleaser. It was great!He also provided the music for my ceremony AND helped me with my crazy lighting requests. I wanted uplighting around the perimeter of the room and a light above the cake. It really made the room look amazing and the cake was glowing!His knowledge and expertise of events is unmatched. My husband and I had one request for him and that was to keep the dance floor packed. He said that the Bride and Groom really have a lot to do with the rhythm and flow of the night and that if we did our part, he'd do his. We took this to heart and the timing on everything and overall feeling in the room was perfect. Also, we were thinking of extending our reception time to 5 hours, but he advised us not to. And yes, he could've made more money by staying later, but he said that "people would want to end on a high note and it was best to leave them wanting more"... and he was right.Over and over again, he was right. He took great care of us throughout the process and we couldn't be happier.

Matthew is one of the DJs at SIM and he was incredibly easy to work with. We live in Oakland and so did not meet him face to face until the wedding but spoke to him on the phone a whole bunch of times. He helped us come up with our list of songs, encouraged us to get requests from our guests, was willing to accommodate our special requests and managed the flow of the event. Once the dancing started he kept folks on the dance-floor till the last song. My family is from Trinidad and, though he did not have the soca/reggae that they wanted to hear in his collection, he took their requests from their iPods etc. and had them bouncing around the dance-floor too! I highly recommend SIM, and Matt in particular! :)

Matthew did a tremendous job DJing our wedding last year, and far exceeded even our best expectations in every sense. We were a bit nervous about how the flow of our event would unfold given the fact we didn't have a wedding coordinator, but Matthew filled this void in stride, announcing us and our wedding party to a rousing ovation, introducing our speakers, and getting everybody lined up for our dances. The fact he was also coordinating all of the music (with plenty of collaborative feedback from us), from our ceremony to our final dance, made it all the more impressive. A casual observer would have thought there was an entire team involved with the production. We couldn't have been happier with how our big day turned out, and Matthew was a key part of this outcome.

Our DJ was great. We did a lot of off the wall stuff and he just rolled with it smoothly. We was willing to meet one on one, we talk by phone and e-mail.

Kevin was the DJ at my wedding and my husband and I couldn't have been happier. I met him at a bridal fair and he gave me his card to set up a meeting. We met several days later where he took the time to get a feel for our style and the type of music we wanted to hear at our wedding. My husband felt extremely comfortable with him and we decided to go with him. After that first meeting we had access to a website where we could manage our music. We got to pick songs we definitely wanted to hear, music styles we did not want to hear, specific songs we wanted to play at specific times, etc. 6 weeks before the wedding we met with Kevin again to go over details and to ask for suggestions for music for other parts of the wedding. On the day of, everything went perfectly. He paid attention to the crowd and what music they were really enjoying and he made managed to keep them dancing all night. He also did a great job as MC to announce the wedding party, first dance, cake cutting, etc. Everyone has told us how much they enjoyed our music and that they especially loved that he wasn't a "cheesy" DJ. I highly recommend Kevin and Sound in Motion!

We used Kevin O'Scanlon and can't not say enough good things about him! We met with him before the wedding, told him our thoughts and immediately knew we were in good hands. He was amazing on our wedding day! He kept the night flowing perfectly and always checked with us before moving on to the next part. We could not have gotten through that night without him! He made a huge impression on our guests and other people have been asking for his number so they can use him and their events as well!

We first met Raffi about a year prior to our wedding at a bridal faire. At the time, we really weren't focused on booking a DJ yet, but we knew that we had to choose Raffi within seconds. He was the only DJ we had to meet because Raffi is so fun you can't help but love and adore his personality. He truly puts a smile on your face and will never leave you without a good feeling inside. Raffi is a truly a gem at what he does. He will bring so much life and energy to our wedding reception. He made me feel so at ease that day because I knew that Raffi was always there pacing us throughout the night. Raffi, thank you so much for making our wedding day a day to remember.

We had Tim as our DJ and he was fantastic. There wasn't a single moment where the dance floor was empty. In fact the dance floor was packed all night long! He was able to change a few things on the fly and was absolutely great to work with! I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Sound in Motion provided the music for my nephews wedding. The DJ was able to quickly feel the pulse of the wedding guests and play music that was both appropriate for the occasion whose participants were of varying ages. The music was upbeat and very fun. The DJ also helped tremendously when it came time to introducing the wedding party, cutting the cake and having the Dad's in the wedding give their speeches. We would highly recommend Sound in Motion to anyone considering a DJ. They were terrific!

"King" Raffi was our DJ, and he was great! The process was really easy, as they have an online form that walks you through the reception and lets you indicate how you want things timed and what music you want played, as well as "must plays" and "don't plays." We also met with Raffi about a week prior to the wedding to go over our preferences. He did a good job of reading the crowd and responding with appropriate music. He was also a good emcee. Would definitely recommend. Thumbs up!

Adrian at Sound in Motion, made sure everyone had a great time at the reception. People were up dancing as soon as the music started and stayed out there until the end. He listened to what we wanted, my husband is in the music industry and is very hard to please when it comes to good mixes and music. Adrian, made him happy by playing all the songs he wanted and didn't play any on his do not play list.

WOW! All I can say is that I was given Raffi's number from another vendor. It must have been his cell because he answered ON VACATION and totally took care of me. He was extremely nice and gave me the number for his company, sound in motion. I called a little over a year early and they had my date available. You can't beat the price they gave me for an awesome DJ! He & the company also got great reviews on yelp.com. The price they quoted me also includes all set-up fees and microphones so it sounds like things will go smoothly & I won't be stressed about added set-up fees, etc.

My husband and I got married earlier this year in Carmel, CA. One thing that was really important to me was having a great DJ at our wedding. My husband, on the other hand, was very skeptical about having a DJ as opposed to a live band. We finally decided on a DJ but my husband wasn't happy about it, until he met Adrian Cavlan. I'd been conversing with Adrian via email for months but a few weeks before the wedding, my husband and I talked to Adrian on the phone (since we lived in Las Vegas at the time, we weren't able to have an in-person meeting). Adrian is a true professional and he really listened to what we wanted. By the end of the call, my husband was feeling much better about the whole situation.Fast forward to the wedding. Looking back on the day, we couldn't have done it without Adrian. Everything felt very effortless and he knew exactly what to do and when to do it. I really wanted our guests to dance and have fun at our wedding. Thanks to Adrian, the dance floor was packed the entire night. Our friends couldn't stop raving about him. Even my husband got out on the dance floor (which is truly amazing). Adrian played a nice mix of music that kept the party going the entire night. It was perfection!I highly recommend Sound in Motion and Adrian. You will not be disappointed.

Adrian and the entire Sound in Motion were excellent. They were extremely professional and their services were bullet-proof, which meant so much to me as a frazzled bride who had trouble with just about every other vendor on my wedding day. They provided the microphones for service, lighting in several widely varying and difficult situations, master of ceremonies, DJ and sound system. I can't recommend them more highly.J. Higgins

My wife April and I are so overwhelmingly happy with everything Adrian had to offer. Five months later and I still have guests that call me and rave about how amazing the DJ was. Every interaction with this wonderful person was nothing but pleasant. He was very helpful throughout the entire process from the first conversation to the magical day of our wedding. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND Adrian if you want a highly professional and truly gifted master of ceremonies. I do believe he was born to do this. A+ !!!

Kevin was our DJ and he was great! I read reviews online and decided that we wanted to go with him. He was extremely professional but fun. We had a meeting with him before the wedding to decide what kind of music we liked and what we thought would work best for different parts of the wedding. Kevin did a great job with all of the music. People danced way more than I expected and we had all ages groovin to the tunes. It was great to have the online library too choose what music we wanted. I could go in at any time and update our playlist as well as all the details for our ceremony and reception. Sound in Motion was a great compant to work with. I highly recommed Kevin O'Scanlon.

DJ Kevin was great. He actually played the songs we asked for and other songs based on our likes/dislikes (this is quite rare in the DJ world). He watched the crowd during the dancing and if a song he played wasn't received well, he kept away from that genre and played only the ones that the crowd responded to. There weren't pauses or silence between songs. He MC'ed at the right times, and didn't say too much or take the attention away from the main event. We didn't have to spend a lot of time with him before the wedding day explaining our likes/dislikes, what kind of feel we wanted for the day. He understood right away from our lists and just meeting us for 15 minutes.

We hired DJ Kevin from Sound in Motion for our wedding. When we met him for our initial consultation, we told him that we were worried that our guests wouldn't dance and what he could do about it. His reply was very different from other DJs that we'd spoken with. He opined that there's nothing more awkward at a wedding than a DJ pushing people to dance that don't want to dance (I completely agree). A DJ should be reading the crowd, not fighting it - if the guests want to talk and catch up, so be it. If they want to dance, turn it up!As it turns out, our guests were too busy catching up after our first dance and no one joined us on the dance floor. Thankfully, Kevin's advice kept us calm and he subtly mixed the music down to something more lounge-like, allowing everyone to enjoy the party without feeling pressured to dance. As the night continued (and the alcohol flowed), Kevin slowly worked the crowd back up, and everyone was on the floor for the Isley Brothers' "Shout" as the last song.We're a little sad that we didn't get to interact with Kevin very much during the wedding, but that's the way a DJ should be - out of sight and running a smooth show. If we had to do it all over again, we would definitely pick Sound In Motion and ask for Kevin again.

Adrian Cavlan from Sound in Motion was fun and polished. We had a very elegant wedding and Adrian adapted his style to reflect the music and tone to fit our exact expectations. He knew when to crank up the fun (a-la devil with the blue, dress blue dress, blue dress for danicng bridesmaids) but when to keep it to the crooners and classics (a-la dinner and mingling). He dressed well and carried a great voice as the DJ and overall MC. He nailed the names of many family and wedding participants and just did an overall lovely job for our wedding. He would come highly recommended.

We hire Raffi to DJ our wedding and he was so great to work with. He listened to what types of music we wanted, and did a great job in keeping people dancing. We would recommend him to anyone!

DJ (4 stars): Adrian really worked with the suggestions we gave him. His attention to detail and knowledge of music was wonderful. He really paid attention to our "play" and "do not play" list and really went the extra mile on some of our requests in the 12th hour.

Videographer (4 stars): We had two cameras and both videographers were professional, courteous and unobtrusive. I'm doing the editing myself, so their services only extended the day of.

DJ King Raffi (formerly from Mix 106.5) was great. He emceed as well as dee-jayed and also bought an assistant. After we made our grand entrance, we were having a couple family members make announcments but they were MIA. DJ King Raffi filled the awkward silence to help the situation while we located our missing announcers.

He didn't charge us for set-up, take-down, travel or the assistant. The only downside was that he cost a lot more than we budgeted but he was worth it.

They were good. I liked how they had everything online for you to fill out and lay out the timeline. They are very experienced and seemed organized. We did select one of the lower tier people, so that might be why the quality of service was not the best but hey you get what you pay for. I say that because there were a few things that were missed. We made some small special requests and they weren't completely fulfilled even though we were told they would be. Overall I think they were pretty good.

Sound in Motion is a very professional operation...their quality and service is AMAZING!
