Tim and crew were nothing short of fantastic. They had the crowd on the floor all night long and learned a new song for our first dance that was absolutely perfect. Tim was always quick to respond to our emails (and there were many) and was very detail-oriented in ensuring that the day went off without a hitch. Our day would not have been the same without them!

Music was probably the most important thing to me for the wedding. I researched bands the most.From beginning to end they was fantastic. They were quick to answer any and all questions. Negotiated with the band to get all of our music included. The band was phenomonal. They kept everyone dancing ALL night.They were AMAZING! Everyone loved their performance and they were very willing to work with me in planning the reception playlist.Offer great bands and their agents are willing to talk to you and give you advice on what band will most likely fit your wedding and reception style and personal tastes! We booked this band through our wedding coordinator and were quite pleased. Their range is really wonderful. Our only complaint was a miscommunication in playing of our special requests for bride/groom and bride/father dance. We ended up having to provide our own music for this and it was a real headache but they did a fantastic job and we would highly reccommend them to anyone.
They even recorded the speeches and emailed them to us afterward!! What a wonderful surprise! Thank you!!

As always, we love great feedback like this with positive recommendations! I do recall the miscommunication issue and it was not the fault of the bride (or the band). We're always happy to learn a new song for brides. We include the statement on all our our literature that we need at least an 8 week notice so that we have time to write charts and rehearse the song. The wedding coordinator didn't make rmarieblunt aware of this until two weeks before the wedding. So, we ended up using a CD instead.
This is an example when using a booking agent or an event planner to coordinate with a band or DJ can be an issue. Almost all of our clients book the band directly and that eliminates any chances of miscommunication since in our case, I work hard to be very organized. It's also less expensive to book a band directly since you will avoid the booking agent fee that is typically included in the cost. Thought this might be helpful to those that are currently in the planning stages of their wedding. Have fun!

Tim and the band were amazing! Our guests screamed for an ENCORE at the end of the night. I used to book and promote bands in college and the service Tim provided exceeded all of my experience with professional agents/routers/managers (I booked Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, Bill Cosby...etc). I would highly recommend this band to any of my friends, especially those with as discerning musical tastes as my husband and I have.

Spectrum Band made finding a wedding band so simple and easy. My husband and I were debating back and forth with my parents over getting a band or a DJ. My parents won in the end and I have to admit they were right. The band made our wedding more elegant and kept the party going. The dance floor was full the entire evening. Awesome band! Lots of fun and got everyone out on the dance floor! We are so glad that we decided to use live music for our reception. They were so organized and easy to work with. If I had to do it all over again, the first thing I would do is book the Spectrum Band!! Oh my gosh they MADE the night!! I really would be rich if I had a dollar for all the compliments Ive gotten. I truly cant begin to explain how great Tim, the band manager, was to work with. They had everything planned and scheduled perfectly. The music was SO much fun, and so great for all ages! They even let one of my bridesmaids play on stage with them during one of the songs (she asked them if she could play the cowbell!)! It was hilarious!! The female singer came out on the dance floor a few times and had all the guests sing along it was great! The band played a variety of music styles, which was very important to us. We were really happy with the overall performance. One disappointment in that instead of wearing the formal attire as was planned, the female vocalist wore her cap and gown from her graduation that day. Very unprofessional and inappropriate in that aspect.

The female vocalist had agreed to perform at this wedding even though it was her graduation day at Washington University where she completed her doctoral program in pharmacy. Prior to the performance, the vocalist asked the mother of the bride if it was acceptable to wear the cap and gown and was told "certainly" and that it would be fun for everyone.
"I had the distinct pleasure last night of photographing the Spectrum Band during their performance at the Coronado Ballroom in St. Louis, Mo. The music was absolutely superb, the atmosphere electric, and I had a front row seat! Spectrum Band is a professional 9-piece variety dance band that specializes in wedding receptions, corporate parties and public events in the St. Louis, Mo area; and, they have been doing it for over 20 years. I have to say; when I say they are good, I mean they are good! - As in REALLY REALLY GOOD! I could not recommend them highly enough for any event, especially weddings. Tim Callihan, the band leader, drummer and one of the original members, and I had been corresponding for several weeks on the subject of weddings and receptions. During the course of those conversations, Tim mentioned that they were needing some updated images for the website, and wanted to know if I was interested in shooting them. As it turned out, we had the time available and I have a policy to never turn down the opportunity to work with the best; and that is exactly what Spectrum Band is, the best. Spectrum is an award winning 9-piece dance band that is one of the most requested and entertaining professional bands in St. Louis for private events as you can see from the band's web site schedule. Planning a wedding is a major undertaking for anyone and there are myriad details that need to be addressed. You quickly learn that it’s never too soon to begin thinking about the details and planning for the music is a significant part of the process. Most individuals have never coordinated music for a large event such as a wedding reception and aren’t familiar with all of the features that an experienced band can provide. Some of these details also apply to a DJ service if you are opting for pre-recorded music.
When you provide specific details, the entertainers you hire can be much more than simply a source of music. They can perform all of the emcee functions such as:
* Introduce the wedding party
* Announce toasts
* Present the person to deliver the marriage blessing
* Coordinate with the caterer regarding instructions for the serving of meals
* Synchronize with photographers and videographers to ensure great pictures of the reception
* Announce special events such as the Bride & Groom first dance and all other special dances
* Cutting of the cake
* Tossing of the garter and/or bouquet
* The newlywed's departure to begin their new life together
Having experienced musicians is like having an on site wedding coordinator to make sure all of your details are addressed during the reception.
The list below addresses topics that will help eliminate confusion and misunderstandings for all involved. It may also bring attention to areas you have not considered at this point. Providing the following information to the band will go a long way toward making your wedding day as organized as possible.
1. Reception Location: Provide directions to the band for difficult locations
2. Reception facility coordinator’s name: Provide this name and a phone number
3. Band issues:
- Stage or performance area should ideally be approximately 20’ wide X 12’ deep depending on the size of your band with access to 110 volt, 20 amp outlets.
- What time will guests arrive? Will the band be set up prior to the arrival of guests?
- Would you like to have piano or light instrumental music performed during dinner?
- Would you like a vocalist and/or pianist at your ceremony? If so, approval is often required from the minister and/or regular organist.
4. Introductions? If so, provide wedding party names (paired up and in order).
5. Toast: Who and when (in most cases it’s best right after the announcements)
6. Blessing: Who? (Usually precedes the toast)
7. First dance: What song? Will the parents cut in? Will the rest of the wedding party cut in?
8. Will the bride dance with her father? What song?
9. Will the groom dance with his mother? What song?
10.Tossing of the garter and bouquet? Both, one, none?
11. Special requests: Any ethnic traditions the band should know about?
12. Any particular songs or style of music you would like performed (or avoided)?
There are a variety of ways to handle the details associated with the dinner. Here are some questions to consider: Are there any special meal instructions? Would you like the emcee of the band to ask guests to pour their own toasts? Is it buffet style? If so, will the country club or banquet hall host or hostess direct guests to the serving table? Do you want to encourage dancing before dinner and prior to the first dance of the bride and groom?
Let’s talk about receiving lines. They work best at the church where the people are more or less “forced” to keep their trip through the line brief and their conversation short. At the reception where the atmosphere is relaxed and casual, people take too long to pass through. The lines last at least an hour with 125 guests or more and that forces the band to play two sets of atmosphere music leaving you with only two sets of dance music (for a typical four hour performance).
Please give some careful thought as to where you will seat your older guests. They usually do not prefer to be seated near the speaker system. An experienced band will adjust the volume to the mood of the audience on the dance floor, but some older guests no longer dance and would enjoy being able to talk during the reception. Placing these guests away from the main speakers, or off to one of the sides, will help facilitate easy conversation.
