Choosing a wedding DJ was an important decision for us. Choosing Dave Wilkins of Star Productions was the best choice and would easily recommend him to anyone else needing a DJ. We talked with many DJs in the Bend area, and Dave by far was the most charismatic and energetic. This was something we wanted in a DJ and as it carried over into his services on our wedding day. Dave took the time to get to know us and learn what was important to us on our wedding day and how his services could contribute to an even greater experience. Dave is just not a DJ that hits play at the start of the night and then relaxes. He was engaging with the guests, understood the mood and modified what music should be played, making the experience fun for all. Dave worked very well with the other vendors to coordinate the various events that needed sound or music, which made the timeline for the day flow with ease. Dave has a great online planning tool allowing clients to provide all the necessary information for the event including play and do not play lists which can be created from a very expansive music listing. Guests were impressed by the DJ, as were we, as a result, choosing Dave for your event will not only provide you great value, but service that you will not be disappointed by. Thanks for making our wedding day as special as we envisioned!

WOW! Dave is FANTASTIC!!!! he played our wedding and was there for us every step of the way during the planning process. he took the time to meet with us prior to the wedding and get to know us. We live in Portland so Dave worked with our schedule to make sure he could meet with us so he understood our needs. With Dave's experience he was an incredible resource providing us with ideas to make our wedding even better.

he helped plan and coordinate all the wedding details. he had invaluable recommendations and was the ONLY reason I got to eat at my wedding. You will be surprised on your wedding day how fast time flies and how crucial it is to have a DJ that's got your back. Dave's professionalism, commitment to get to know us and listen to the details meant the day of my wedding I didn't have to worry about anything.

The music he played was fantastic, my family loved him and he kept the party going all night long. We originally thought about saving money and having an ipod wedding but Dave not only took the role of a DJ but coordinated and ensured the wedding went perfectly!!!

FYI: I read the subpar review prior to hiring Dave that's located further down the page and was initially hesitant but this was NOT my experience at ALL. Rather, I felt like it was the opposite. Dave was easy to get in touch with and even took the time to meet a couple of days before the wedding to make sure he had the details perfect and made excellent suggestions to ensure I had the wedding experience I wanted to have.

Dave was wonderful! He made our wedding run so smoothly. He had everything we needed to make our ceremony and reception perfect. It was so nice not to have to worry about anything.

DJ Dave was our Dj at our Wedding. He was absolutely amazing. Days after the wedding guests were telling us how great he was and how much fun they had at our wedding. Dave was very easy to talk to and very grateful to be with us on our wedding day. We couldn't imagine anyone else.

I wanted to take a minute to respond to comments made in regards to a review written regarding my services....since this review will still show up on searches about my company, Star Productions DJ's of Bend Oregon. The reviewers notes are in quotes....

"I was a little nervous when I had a hard time getting a response from Dave as we drew nearer and nearer to the wedding, but I remained optimistic based on his website comments and the reviews posted here."

We make a commitment to communicate to our clients...in several ways, either contact us on our web site, instant answers, texting, direct email and a phone call...this bride, was from California, 8 hours away from us here...but still had every opportunity to contact us at anytime...she chose to wait til the last minute however...as many brides get stressed prior to their event, we totally understand this and make every effort to contact them in advance of their event....when a bride has a lot of questions, we take the time to answer... there were things we was uncertain about, we were there to help, she waited til the last minute on several important items....which we generally have handled weeks, if not months in advance.


"He finally did call two days before the event while we were in the middle of errands, and I was very distracted. Many questions slipped my mind. He never went over the Event Planning Guide with us. BIG mistake, in hindsight".

She does not mention here the number of attempts we made to get a hold of her long before this time. The mistake was...she failed to complete her form in advance and waited til the last minute...we offered her ideas to help complete her planner. My suggestion is to communicate with your vendors at least 2 weeks before the event...not just days...that would make everyone more relaxed.


"Literally, about five to ten minutes before I walked down the aisle he came into my dressing room to introduce himself and asked if I had the iPod with our dinner music. Umm...no. We requested specific songs of sentimental importance and put "Dinner Hour" in the notes. He kept repeating that I "must not have pressed Save", although, I knew I had. (He ended up playing these songs during the reception, so -- unless he's psychic -- he clearly just didn't check the notes beforehand.) I started to tear up on the verge of a cry, and he was apologetic; it definitely wasn't a visit I wanted so shortly before the ceremony."

The music selected in advance as far as when she wanted it played, was not clearly listed...unfortunately...which is why we had last minute questions...again...communication before the event is so important. don't assume that he'll figure it out...i try not to assume anything.


"He then went and talked to my (now) husband while he waited at the end of the aisle. (Yikes! Cutting it a little close, there.) The last thing he told Dave was: If anyone requests a specific song...go ahead and play it. We'd also indicated this on our planning guide -- we wanted everyone to have a good time. A few different guests indicated that Dave said he wouldn't play their songs because we didn't want that type of music. Sure, we did say we didn't want country or disco, but we meant not to randomly play either if there was a lull in the action or no one was making requests. I believe (hope!) in all cases he did end up playing the songs, but I felt bad that our guests had to haggle to hear what they wanted."

We don't have guests haggle for their requests... there were songs we did play as requested....no problem. There were do not play songs that were requested as well...that we did not play. Our goal is to play the right mix of music that our clients, friends and family request...and always has been our goal...


"In our phone conversation I asked if he needed to know the order the bridal party would enter the reception, and he said no, as long as they walked in the same order as they did for the ceremony. Right before our entrance, I had a family member go up to double check if he knew everyone's names, and I ended up having to write everything down again as we were waiting to get started. He then introduced us to "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)." Not only wasn't it the song we'd requested, it in no way reflects the style of music we like. (Our first dance was to the Ramones, so that should have been an indicator that Natalie Cole wasn't high on our play list.) "

The list of the bridal party members was not delivered to us on the planner...as requested in advance...and originally the only ones that were to be introduced were the bride and groom...right before the introduction that changed and was why i needed the names...written in the order they'd like to be introduced...NOW, this was changed several times.... while i can usually make things happen at the last minute...this needed more time...the photographer kept the bridal party away from me and let me know just moments ahead that i would be introducing the entire bridal party instead of just the bride and groom...it's these type of changes that really don't make things easy to coordinate.


There were some other little issues, but the ultimate reasons I'm writing this review (after going back and forth about it):


1) He handled a special dedication in what I consider to be very poor taste. We'd requested a song for a family member who passed away, and he took a lot of liberties with this dedication. He called everyone up on the dance floor, as if we were going to do the Electric Slide or something...then he dropped the downer bomb on us. Panning across the guests' faces was awful -- expressions ranged from shocked to horrified to devastated to "what the...?" A couple of people were sobbing. It was a train wreck. But the worst part is when he raised the mic heavenward and said, "Can you see this __________? This is for you!"

Special dedications like this are not easy to handle..especially when there is a lot of emotion tied to the death of a family member...the couple really wanted everyone to know that this was a dedication to a recently deceased member of the family, and wanted everyone to share this moment...which we handled the best way we could...again... a little more time spent on an introduction from the bride and groom could have made this element more special... we now ask about special dedications to past family members... and make sure we coordinate this with dignity and respect to everyone.


"Bottom line: He should have ran something of such a sensitive nature by us first."

AGAIN...We tried to communicate with the client...this was another thing we just couldn't get together on in advance...


"2) When he asked about ceremony music I told him we had it covered, but we might need a microphone for the musician. He said he'd check with the venue. He never did, which isn't a huge deal...I should have followed up myself. However, I eventually did let him know it was already provided, and asked him to refund our money. It's been over three weeks and we're still waiting."

This is unreasonable...as a matter of fact the staff at the facility was confused as well...since this wasn't communicated to them either...i did check...and we had extra gear on site just in case this changed too...i know the staff on site and have worked with them many times...they do their best based on the communication they receive from the client. By the way the money was refunded, even though i still provided some of the services needed...even at the last minute.


"All in all, he turned it around, and I think most people ended up having fun. But I highly, highly, highly recommend that you go over specific details with him and don't assume he's got things covered. My husband and I are both pretty computer savvy, but the planning guide isn't super-straightforward, and lends itself to miscommunication if you don't go over it verbally."

We did turn this around...BUT...Never leave communicating the important details with your MC til the last minute.... we have worked with hundreds of happy clients..they appreciate our commitment to the success of their event...we make every effort to make sure details are clearly stated on planners...music is selected, wether they are must plays and or do not play selections...and that execution of these elements is taken with care and consideration of family, friends and guests. I appreciate the time she spent on this feed back, but think that if she would have spent the time in the beginning getting details to me, none of this would have been an issue nor a need for improvement... you can see what others are saying about us on our facebook page, our web site at www.starproductionsdjs.com. dozens of our clients would share with you that we have a solid customer service commitment to our clients and have for the past 15 years here in Bend Oregon. Dave (owner of Star Productions) exceeded our expectations. He was very dependable, appropriate, and could've changed his demeanor depending on what we requested. He was an expert at everything he did: he was punctual, personable, outgoing, very easy to work with, and what he offered for his price was outstanding. I would re-hire David for another event in a heartbeat. I would highly (HIGHLY) recommend David to ANYONE looking for a Great DJ for ANY event! Dave, thank you again, for making our day PERFECT!!

Dave is a phenomenal DJ. He was very intuitive and played what my husband and I liked while keeping our guests completely entertained. I've enjoyed Daves DJ skills at other events also, like the 4th of July Festival. No matter the size of the crowd, Dave seems right at home and is great at getting everyone involved. Fun, laid back
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
on the average 25 songs an hour...we make sure its the right mix for you and your guests...most importantly we want to know what songs are on the DO NOT PLAY list!
What is your usual attire?
Black tie, black slacks black shirt...we ask our clients if they'd prefer something different.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
We generally get the songs our clients want.
How many other DJs do you work with?
we have a network of DJ's through ADJA partnerships...litterally thousands of qualified DJ's.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
depends on the event...the average time is between 5 and 6 hours.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely! Don't hire anyone unless you can meet them in person, via skype and facetime work too!
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
