On Maximizing Your Wedding Photography Experience

Have an engagement session with your photographer.
• You will get to know each other
• He/she will know how best to photograph you on your big day
• You will have great images for invitations or thank you cards,
• It’s LOTS of fun!
Find out if your venue has restrictions about photography
• Many churches, temples, synagogues may not permit flash photography, or only permit the photographer in the back or not permit photography at all! If this is the case, and time permitting, some portions of the ceremony can be re-enacted and photographed afterwards
• If you are getting married outdoors at venues where the setup is flexible, consider asking the photographer about lighting and the best spot for the canopy, chuppah, altar etc.
Makeup and other ways to look your best
• Professionally done makeup is great if you can do it. It will last all day. If you are doing it yourself, your mascara should be waterproof
• Glittery, iridescent blushes and eye shadows don’t photograph well, especially if flash has to be used. Matte types of makeup are much better
• Color from the face to the rest of body should be pretty close in tone
• Keep your makeup style close to your everyday style. Experimenting with makeup styles on your wedding day is not recommended and besides, you want to see YOU when you look at you images later on
• Translucent powder and lip gloss should be given to your maid of honor or someone else who will be with you during photo sessions so you can touch up if needed
Communicate with and then ignore your photographer
• If you have things that you are self conscious about, let your photographer know. We can try to be sensitive to these areas and either in front of the camera or in the computer minimize or enhance your photos to the best of our ability to make them more flattering
• Ignore your photographer at the reception so he/she can get lots of candid shots of you having a very wonderful time!
