Brides By Sullums of NEPA
Once arriving to Sullum's on time for our fitting appt. with my bridal party. I was told that I would have to wait. After waiting 20 minutes for the two women to stop gossiping with one another, I started looking through dresses. They waited at least 10 minutes if not more to ask if I knew what I was doing. I stated not really, but it was more then I was getting from my appointment. It was at this point we were insulted and then tempers blew. However, we left prior to being insulted any further but this establishment is far from their hay day when everyone who worked there just wanted any occasion to go off without a hitch. On a side note the dresses that were stated to be discontinued from them were noted not to be when my bridal party and myself went to HEAD TO TOE where we had a totally different experience. They had many people there for multiple reasons and yet made us feel as they wanted our business. Great news.... WE BOUGHT OUR DRESSES.
So, Sullum's has beautiful dresses at good prices. My sales associate and the women who performed my alterations were great; however, I had a negative experience with the owner of the store. I tried on a gorgeous wedding gown and I fell in love with it. I paid for the gown, in full, in cash. The owner removes the tags from all of their dresses, so it is impossible to research the gowns prior to purchasing them. Upon buying the dress, I requested the gown information (i.e. designer name and dress style) so I could print out pictures of the gown to show my family and friends. When I got home and tried to look up the dress on the designer's website, I was unable to locate it. I quickly learned that the dress had been discontinued a few weeks earlier, and that it was no longer being manufactured. As soon as the store re-opened, I returned to ask if they could still order the dress. I was told that the owner would be out for a few days and "if she has a problem ordering it, she would call me". I waited all week for a return call, and when the owner contacted me she started the conversation by saying "I think you know we have a problem with the dress". Of course, I knew...I was the one who informed them it was a problem! She informed me that she couldn't order the dress, but if I wanted the sample I could have it at a discount. I had seen on several websites that sample gowns are often discounted significantly more than what had been offered to me, so I asked for an additional discount. As I was having a conversation with the owner over the phone, I could hear a woman in the background talking about me, clear as day! I was really offended and told the owner that the woman should probably lower her voice, so that I wouldn't be able to hear her talking about me. It was a really frustrating experience. I should have known from other review of the store that it was going to be a difficult experience.
Love my dress. My consultant was great. I had some issues with the tailoring that they were able to fix but I did feel like they didn't understand my time constraints since I traveled from out of state for this.
Sullum's was a great place to get my wedding gown! I originally ordered one gown, at the urging of my mother and sister. A few days later, I decided that I wanted to order a different dress, and Sullum's was more than accomodating, allowing me to change my order with no problem. I also lost around 50 pounds in the months before the wedding, so after I lost the first 20 pounds, I called to change the size of the dress I had ordered. This was also done with no problem. When the dress came in and I was fitted, the seamstress was happy for me and happy to take in the dress. Since I planned on still losing more weight before the wedding, she held off on making the alterations so that the dress would look as good as possible. They let me come in as late as one week before the wedding for my final fitting, and the dress looked great!
The ordering and fitting process was fine for 3 out of 4 bridesmaids. One bridesmaid, my matron of honor, had lost around 50 pounds, as well, in the year before the wedding. She ordered the dress many sizes too large, and so it had to be taken in when it arrived at the dress shop. It took 4 fittings to get it right, which was extremely inconvenient. However, they did get it right and it looked great on the wedding day!
Sullum's is definitely a shop managed old-school. They have the expertise to execute what you want, BUT you have to stay on top of calling them, making sure they have things noted down correctly, etc. It seems like the management doesnt communicate effectively to the staff or vice versa or?? The lady that dresses you during your bridal appointment and the alterations lady are great! The management could certainly make some improvements in the way they run things in terms of efficiency and communication.
We selected Sullum's because they did have a large selection of dresses and beat out all other dress shops in terms of price and the free alterations deal was great for the girls, my mom and myself. I also got my bridal gown there so it was easy to have everything at one location...
The Ladies were so nice!!! Alterations were perfect!
Sullum's did a great job helping me find exactly what I wanted.
The seamstress is EXCELLENT, very attentive to what the bride's opinion and will do any alteration necessary to make sure the dress looks its best.
I did have to have a few more fittings than I thought, but in the end, it was well worth it. When I picked up my dress, it was all ready- pressed and all.
I had four bridesmaids in my wedding party, and the two who got measured at Sullums were measured improperly. The dresses were scheduled to arrive at the end of April, I called in the first week of May, and was told at that point the dresses were running late, and it would still be another week for my wedding on June 20. When the dresses finally arrived, my maid of honor's dress was too small, she had lost weight since the initial measure. One of the other girls was very much too big. Another tailor had said she was measured incorrectly by 12 inches. Sullums did do the alterations on that dress for free, but the alterations were messed up twice, and three days before the wedding another tailor had to correct the problems and the dress had to be picked up on the wedding day. The dress still did not look the way it should have. The two girls who sent their measurements to the store had dresses that fit properly. I would not recommend this store at all for any aspect of your wedding and I am thankful I did not get my gown from here.
They ordered me the gown of my dreams and it cost way less than I found it anywhere else. The service is exceptional although you have to call them to check on the status of your dress. They only charged me $35 to alter my gown, wow!!! They helped me choose everything that I needed including my veil, shoes and slip. Fantastic women with an old fashion style of their own. My mother bought her wedding dress from this same store!!
