We could not have been happier with Vicki and her wonderful cake! We came to her with a very unique idea/concept and she worked with us to make it a reality. Her easy going personality and talent and hard work were a great combination. Thank you! Maria and Herb Tedford

Maria & Herb were a wonderful couple to work with! They knew they wanted a different approach to the traditional cake and I am thrilled that I was able to fulfill their hopes. I will be posting the pictures of the individual pieces of their cake soon. I had hoped to receive a picture of their completed cake, but nothing as of yet. (We designed this cake for them to be able to assemble themselves at their reception).

We hired Vicki to make the cake for our wedding-- she provided references, she had impressive photos, she was confident that she could create a cake that matched our vision. It did not, not at all. Our wedding cake turned out to be a disaster.

The banquet manager wouldn't sign for the cake upon delivery, and she says this is because it wasn't in good shape at that point. The banquet staff took photos right away, and our photographers documented the state of the cake when they arrived. Based on the photos, there is no evidence that the cake was moved or touched after it was delivered.

Vicki sent a photo that she claims proves the cake was fine-- unfortunately, it only captures the front of the cake-- the problems were on the side and in the back. The photos taken by the reception hall and by our photographers were taken from all angles and show the damage on the other sides. The photos were taken shortly after the cake was delivered.

In addition to being cracked and falling apart, the decoration on the cake wasn't finished. The frosting decorations stopped on the back side of the cake-- you could see the cardboard between the layers. Our cake cutting photos show the damaged cake and the unfinished back side. Had the cake been in tact the back side wouldn't have been an issue, but our photographers had to photograph it from this angle to avoid getting the cracked portion of the cake in the photo. They were able to do some cropping and framing to hide the damage in some photos, but it could not be hidden entirely.

Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Sweet Creations by Vicki.

ADDENDUM: Vicki has followed up with us and offered a partial refund at this point.

This is an unfortunate situation with some conflicting scenarios. I did have difficulty with the icing and decorative part of their cake. However, when I left the venue, the cake was together, I did take my photo and I felt all was good....aside from the decorative part that I was disappointed in.

The coordinator did not sign, but at the same time, she did not closely inspect the cake. I was open with her about difficulties I had been having, but she did not express any concern on her part before I left. If it had been in that bad of condition when it was delivered, then I should never have been allowed to leave without repairing it. Evidently, the bottom tier began cracking from the weight of the top two tiers. All tiers were filled, and the bottom contained pudding. I am assuming that there was too much pudding, not enough dowels to support the weight of the top two tiers. This is not a problem that I have had in the past, so I was very surprised when this happened.

Unfortunately, the coordinator called me and left me a message 1 hour before the reception started. I was not at home and did not receive the message until well after the reception was over. Due to this there was nothing I could do to try and salvage the cake. I have never experienced a situation like this with any of my previous cakes and I have always been able to leave the venue confident that as far as construction goes...all was well. I felt the same way that day.

I contacted the couple the next day and they asked to wait until after their honeymoon to discuss the cake. Not a problem from my end. We started communications on 10/8/08 and have come to an agreement of a partial refund as of 10/22/08.

This is the first time this has ever happened with one of my cakes and going forward I know have a few additional pointers for anyone considering the filled/stacked cakes. Pointers that I will be applying myself in my designs in the future.

Vicki did a fabulous job on the Groom's cake. It was exactly what we had asked for. My husband raved about the delicious light and fluffy cake and not-too-sweet icing. I would highly recommend Vicki's services to anyone and everyone.

I have been decorating professionally for 11 years. I actually started 15 years ago when my daughter turned 1. I self taught myself for 6 years just so my daughter could have that special cake for her birthday. Everyone would comment on my cakes and say I should do this professionally. I decided to go through the courses and learn all the details of flower making, special designs and tiered cakes. I love making someone’s day special with a personalized cake.

I am available for weddings, birthdays, showers, school events or just because.

Besides cakes, what other types of desserts do you provide?

What additional services do you provide?

Do you provide customary cakes, such as Croquembouche?

Are you licensed by the state health department?

Do you offer private tastings or open house tastings?

If you let me know what flavors you are considering prior to our meeting, I will do my best to put together a sampling for you.

What are your tasting hours?

By appointment only.

Describe how you price, such as by slice or by tier, for your cakes?

Wedding cakes are priced per slice.

Does the price include the top tier of the cake?

There is no charge for the top tier of the cake. The top tier is not included in the serving count of your cake.

Do you offer custom cakes, or do you work with pre-designed styles?

I can customize a cake for you, or incorporate other designs. I have in the past combined 3 different cake designs into one.

On average, how far in advance of the event do you prepare the cake?

For cakes with sugar or icing flowers, preparation begins weeks in advance to ensure the flowers have dried properly. The cakes themselves are usually baked 2 days in advance of your date and frosted the day before. Final decorating touches are added the day of and at the time of delivery.

How many cakes do you schedule for a typical weekend?

I only do 1 wedding per week so you will have my undivided attention.

Will you work with the client's florist to garnish the cake?

Absolutely! I will work with the bride and her florist in any special needs for fresh flowers on her cake.

What (if any) cake accessories, such as a cake stand or cake cutter, do you rent out?

I require a deposit on any cake stand used, cake plates or plastic pillars used that will be refunded upon the return of the items in the same condition they received them. If items are not returned, the deposit is used to replace the items lost.

Do you offer delivery? If yes, how much is your average delivery fee?

Yes, I deliver all wedding cakes. There is no additional charge for a 30 mile radius of Albany, NY. Outside of Albany, there is a $1.75 per mile (one-way) delivery charge.

Don't wait until the last minute to book your cake decorator. We don't like to say no to anyone, but at the same time, if there is a lot of prep work that has to go into your cake, it may be the only answer we are able to give.
