Reviews for Sweet Lady Jane
I have never been treated so rudely in all my life. When my husband and I went in for our tasting appointment, we were forced to wait for almost an hour while the owner chatted on the phone right in front of us (and trust me, she knew we were there waiting for her). When she finally decided to grace us with her presence, we were informed that they only had 3 of their many flavor combos available for our tasting. What we were able to taste was dry, flavorless and uninspired. The owner was very pushy, telling us to order an overpriced cake that day or else there was little chance they'd be able to accommodate us. At the same time, she acted like she could care less if we ever came back. Needless to say, we ran out of that place and never looked back.
As many others have said, the cakes are delicious. The ones we tried were really good.
But it sorta ends there. The lady in charge of their wedding cakes is a little quirky which is fine. What is off putting is how when you are talking to her it would that isn't really paying attention. She is always looking off into space or seemingly pre-occupied with something else. As I mentioned before the cakes we tried were great...the very few they actually had to try. A lot of the more interesting flavors were made to order only. Whats the point if you have this incredibly long list of flavors and you only really have 3-4 in the store to try. The other place we went to gave us a sample of ALL their flavors.
Needless to say their snooty reputation very much precedes them. Amazing cake, but for the price and the social interaction we went with someone else.
I am a huge cake person, i love it like nothing else, so I enjoy frequenting sweet lady jane for a quick fix! The cake is phenomenal.
On one such visit I thought to ask to see their book to get an idea of wedding cakes. I was thrown a book. About 20 minutes later, a woman plopped down next to us, realized we were eating the regular cake they sell and without a word, TOOK OUR CAKE... THAT WE HAD PAID FOR AS REGULAR CUSTOMERS!!! There was a muttering about "this is not what you will get" and was gone for 5 minutes. The customer next to us was as astounded as we were and said "did she just take your cake". The woman came back with a sampling of other frostings, quite nice actually as a wedding cake requires different frosting to hold for hours. She didn't listen to what I was trying to say. We want a simple design (I don't like frouf) and she kept recommending dots. I hate dots.
Love their cake... will never EVER consider for a specialty cake.
