That cake was delicious and beautiful! It looked so pretty we didn't want to mess it up by cutting it but we did and wore some of it on our noses!

Melanie was phenominal. She patiently worked with us through all of our changes to create a wonderful cake and beautiful flowers for our wedding. She worked with our budget to make our dream wedding a reality. She provided beautiful flowers at an affordable price without sacrifing the quality of the product. We received several complinents on our cake and our flowers. We opted for fake flowers but they looked amazingly real. I would work with Melanie again anytime.

I am so glad I decided to have a coordinator. Melanie and the team made my wedding day run smoothly and stress free. I am so glad I found her and once I did it was no question I was going to hire her. The flowers were amazing and she works with your budget if you have one. I also have referred some friends to Melanie because I was that pleased.

We loved Melanie!! We hired her for day-of coordination and we couldn't have pulled off the wedding day without her and her team. Melanie met with us twice before the wedding, attended the rehearsal, and received countless emails and phone calls from me regarding vendors and logistics. She always got back to me right away. On the day of the wedding she made the trains run on time. She was calm and on the ball and her team was so helpful...always offering to do something or get something. I would recommend Melanie to anyone and highly recommend if you're thinking about saving a little money by doing the coordinating yourself the day of the wedding - DON'T - you'll be glad she was there so you can relax and enjoy your wedding day.

Where to start with this wonderful company… I had my wedding in April of 2011 and I first starting working with STBO in Oct of 2010. I found the company through Wedding Wire. When I had my first interaction with STBO a lady named Melanie picked up the phone & I had asked if she can design a cake for my wedding, she said "Ok, When would you like to meet?" At that time, my schedule was pretty crazy so, Melanie met me late the next evening. When my husband & I met with Melanie that night she had blown us out of the water with her smile, amazing personality, professionalism and her amazing pricing. As time as gone by, I explained to Melanie that I am shopping around… Everywhere I went, I just kept thinking about the amazing customer service that Melanie had provided along with her smile. After about 10 different cake tastings I called Melanie and told her I wanted to go with STBO. After a few more meetings not only did Melanie design my wedding cake but she made all the wedding favors, designed the wedding location with decor, and the most important part, her coordination the day of the wedding - She insured that there was no negative impact on my husband & I and Melanie and her team made the day run smoothly. I just wanted to send a BIG Thanks to Melanie and all of her team members at STBO for making our day as special as I could ever have imagined it.

Melanie from Sweet Thing Black Orchid was absolutely wonderful. She provided my husband's groom's cake for our wedding. From start to finish, she was professional, friendly, and easy to work with. From the moment we met her, we knew that she was the perfect person to make our groom's cake. She offered to come into the city we live in to set up our initial meeting. She came fully prepared with a sketchpad and samples of her delicious cakes. As we told her what we envisioned, she listened to us and made very helpful suggestions (ex: I would have never thought about having a decorative cake board). One of the things that I really liked about her was that she didn't push us to sign a contract with her on the spot. After we decided to go with her company, Melanie was quick to send us all the information we needed and she was always easy to get in touch with. She made us a stunning cake which everybody oohed and ahhed about at the reception. We went with a milk chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting and it was beyond delicious. I would refer anyone who needs a cake to Sweet Thing Black Orchid. It was a great experience from start to finish.

I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about Sweet Thing Black Orchid. We hired them for day-of wedding coordination and they did all of our bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. From the second we met Melanie, we knew we were in great hands. She worked with us to come up with flower arrangements that not only fit within our tight budget, but that were exactly what we had pictured for the big day. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Melanie sat down with us to get every single detail in order, provided much needed advice and referrals, and was able to keep us calm when all the details of the wedding day were becoming overwhelming. On the day of the wedding, Melanie and her team seemed to be everywhere at once, getting everything set up (absolutely perfectly!) at both the ceremony and reception locations, and helping to get the bridal party ready and keep everyone on track with our time table. The entire wedding day went off without a hitch, we didn't have to worry about a single thing and were able to completely enjoy our wedding day, and we have Melanie and STBO to thank for it. I think my husband put it best when at the end of the night he told her that we felt like we were robbing her because of all STBO did for us at such an amazingly reasonable price. :) Many thanks to Melanie and her team for making our special day absolutely perfect!

Sweet Black Orchid, under the guidance of Melanie Nwosu, were supremely organized, efficient and personable. Ms. Nwosu managed our wedding party of 20 and handled every imaginable detail on the day of the day of the wedding. Her personal care and attention made us feel relaxed and able to enjoy our special day

Melanie and her team were wonderful to work with!!! They delivered the most tasty and moist red velvet cake my family has ever tasted, and my dad knows red velvet! :) She was very detailed oriented and it showed in her work. At our initial meeting, she was sweet and professional and her cake was displayed beautifully, even for small samples of cake! My family was very impressed. I would work with Melanie again and again for future special ocassions!

I absolutely LOVE Melanie. We are horribly disorganized and after each meeting we would sigh of relief, because she made the planning process so much easier. She's a true professional and made sure that the wedding went smoothly and would notify us ahead of time for the first song and cake cutting. Her staff decorated the reception area beautifully and exactly as we wanted and I will never forget that she made sure that the ceremony area was set up at the correct location, when it wasn't in the beginning.

She also did our wedding and grooms cake and when we asked for an unusal cake shape (a pyramid and a sphinx), she got all excited and worked with us on the design. The cakes turned out absolutely gorgeous and I wasn't even able to taste all three flavours we selected, because the guests devoured them in minutes...it was that tasty. We are still being asked if we have any left over cake and after well over a week it being in and out of the fridge it's still soft and moist and yummy.
I can't thank Melanie and her team enough for making our day wonderful.

Sweet Thing Black Orchid helped ease our wedding day woes! They did a fabulous job helping us plan everything. After having a disaster meeting with another wedding planner, we met with Melanie and she was so understanding and reassuring that everything would go smoothly. It did! I have never felt more relaxed than I did on my wedding day. I thought for sure that I would be worried about this and that and not enjoy my special day (like so many of my friends), but everything came together perfectly and I got to have a great time on the most important day of my life!
Sweet Thing Black Orchid made our wedding cake and it was delicious and so beautiful. I never thought I would be able to afford a cake like the one I had, but their prices were very reasonable. The candy favors that were made for the guests were out of this world! The planning of the wedding in particular was impressive. I'm sooooo glad that I spent the money to have a wedding planner. Had I done this on my own I would have wound up either with a headache or not getting married at all!!!

Actually "stumbled" upon Melanie Nowsu and her Sweet Thing Black Orchid brand... and I am so glad I did. Her presentation/tasting was exceptional. I gave her some basic ideas, she saw my theme and on the spot came up with marvelous ideas which she executed wonderfully. The cake was beautiful. In addition, she delivered during the BLIZZARD of 2009! Who could ask for anything more? Well, more is that the cake was incredibly delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend Sweet Thing Black Orchid!

AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING! Melanie and her girls literally made our day. My new husband and I were a bit nervous about using a wedding planner because of all of the crazy stuff you see oon TV, but Melanie and her team put us at ease from the start....
They literally did everthing almost for us (even some things we were supposed to do ourselves).
It was really cool too because they were all wire up and in black at the reception (like a movie or something). The team was so professional and very accomodating.

i am so grateful that all my vendors made it to the venue despite the effects of hurricane irene. though she had no power, melanie was there with all my bouquets, petals for the tables, and flowers for the guys and moms. she was always super professional whenever we emailed or spoke over the phone. my bouquet was GORGEOUS and exactly what i wanted. the silk flowers that i ordered looked exactly like their real counterparts.

i also received invaluable advice about cake ordering from melanie. i can't thank her enough.

Sweet Thing Black Orchid was my second favorite that I had tasted, but my first favorite vendor missed an appointment, so we went with our close second. Melanie met us at a location near our house and brought some requested cake flavors. She then sat with us and got a feel for how we wanted our cake to look. She then sent us a computer image mock-up, and then quickly adapted when I decided I wanted something completely different. Also, they were kind enough to work with us about a month and a half out from the event, and they even gave us a discount when we expressed budget concerns. We were very happy with the experience.
The only negative thing that I have to say involves what must have been a miscommunication between us. Our original specified design had one layer of chocolate, one layer of red velvet, and one layer of butter flavor, but when I contacted her with some changes it went to four layers. We never discussed what flavor the additional layer would be, so they filled in with an additional red velvet flavor. I would have preferred it to have been chocolate, but again, I never told them what I wanted, so it was definitely partially my fault. The other issue was that I told them that I wanted buttercream icing, but the actual cake had fondant on it. I later found out that they were worried about the way that the design I wanted would look in buttercream, so a last minute change was made. I wasn’t overcharged, and their fondant was actually very delicious, but it wasn’t what I wanted. Guests were telling me that they loved the cake, but some also said that they just peeled off the fondant. Again, delicious and not extra money, but not what I expected.
In the end, the cake was yummy, beautiful, and inexpensive. We were happy!

This company was terrific. Professionalism was amazing and the quality and decor of my cake, flowers and candles were amazing. I will greatly recommend this business to anyone and everyone.

I cannot glorify this bakery enough!! People are still talking about the look and taste of the wedding cake!! It was a big hit!! I completely recommend Cake Studio for all brides, you will not be disappointed. From initial consultation to delivery, Sonia is all professional and competent, not to mention extremely talented. After having met Melanie (owner of the company) and tasting the samples she brought, for our consultation, I've got to tell you I could not wait to have the real thing! I was not disappointed! Though upon second thought I think I would have preferred frosting better than fondant. But it was still delicious. I shamefully ordered enough for 140 but only expected 115 guest (I never called to change the number of people I was expecting) so I could have extra because the cake was so delightful to myself and my daughter. lol *sigh now I want more. lol

The cake looked beautiful and tasted even better. The flowers were fresh and beautiful. We were happy with both the wedding cake and flowers for the ceremony.Great job Sweet Thing-Black Orchid.

As soon as we met Melanie, we knew she was the one for us! She is so easy to work with, she immediately feels like one of your best friends. We ran SOOO many ideas past her & changed things up a few times, but she never failed to find what we liked! Even though we didn't get the beautiful outdoor ceremony we had planned for 1 1/2 yrs, she still made everything gorgeous--THANK YOU MELANIE!!!!

The cake and flowers that Sweet Thing - Black Orchid did for a wedding I played for in September were just AMAZING... stunning, really. I'm not in the habit of noticing these things because I play so many weddings, but her work really stood out at me as someone who really knows what she is doing! I highly recommend Sweet Thing Black Orchid.

The women of Sweet Thing Black Orchid are so wonderful; they are kind and really take time and listen to the bride. The cakes I have seen are beautiful!
