Reviews for Sylvia's Flowers

Rich, the floral designer, is extremely friendly, outgoing, passionate, and knowledgeable. He seems to love weddings and has an eye for knowing what will work without being a pushy sales person. He was considerate about our allergies to scents and to our budget. For example, he made us the perfect affordable throw bouquet and the shop went above and beyond when they prepared vases we provided when they received them a few weeks before the wedding, even going the extra mile by taking off the price stickers and filling them with marbles. We weren’t too picky about the specific flowers; we allowed Rich to choose flowers that had no scent, were reasonably priced, and matched our color scheme. They bouquets were beautiful! My bouquet was huge and required my husband’s help holding it during all of the photos. I did think that of all of the bouquets, my bouquet was the only one that had brown edges on some of the roses, but it didn’t show in pictures. I was probably the only one to notice. Our center pieces, three hydrangea each in their own vase, were as simple as can be and it worked out just perfectly. The hydrangea lasted for days as long as they were kept in water. At Rich’s suggestion because I didn’t want the men to wear pink or purple, the men received blue hyacinth boutonnieres. By the end of the night, none of their hyacinth were intact because the little blossoms fell off after hugging family and friends all night. Overall, Sylvia’s was a good choice because Rich is an artist and he’s willing to work with his customers to make them happy.

Upon the original consultation, I was in heaven. Over the course of time between first consultation and wedding day, I started to worry a little. I then went in for my final consultation where I requested a mock up of my floral arrangements. The designer, Rich, made a beautiful arrangement at the cost of $125. The flowers died 2 days later.
Move to the wedding day. The driver from Sylvia's was late showing up to the church; thus, my own family was making the arrangements and setting up vases WHILE MY GUESTS WERE ARRIVING! My 85 year old grandmother was helping to set up!! Unacceptable!
Move to after the ceremony - again, no driver to be found to transfer vases and flowers from the church to the reception hall. Finally, my family, ONCE AGAIN, made the transfer for me and helped to set up the vases and centerpieces. Once again, my guests were present at the reception hall because the florist did not do their job by the time the 5:00 cocktail hour started. Very disappointing!!
All in all, if you want your wedding day to go smoothly, DO NOT use this vendor. I asked for a $355 credit to my credit card to cover the amount charged to me for set up and transfers and was denied it. Instead, they offered me a $150 credit to their floral shop.
Totally disappointed in this vendor. I informed them I would not recommend them and they were not phased at all. Too bad that a local business can't be honorable enough to either fulfill a contract or make it right without ruining their word-of-mouth reputation.

Great Flowers at the rehearsal diner of a friend. The flowers looked and smelled great. Wish I had them for my wedding

I had a fall wedding and worked with Beth at Sylvia’s flowers. Let me just say that she was GREAT to work with. She ended up creating the exact type of arrangements that I was trying to explain and worked exactly within my budget, without sacrificing the integrity of any of the designs. At our consultations I showed her a large variety of pictures I found as well as named a bunch of different flower types I liked. I also provided a few items I wanted included in the arrangements such as feathers and plastic grapes. She managed to incorporate everything I was talking about into exactly the picture I had in my head. The flowers were one of my most favourite part of the whole wedding, especially my bouquet. It was exactly what I had in mind. When I saw the flowers for the first time I was totally blown away by how awesome and creative they were. Before I even saw the flowers, my now husband kept telling me “wait until you see these flowers, you are going to love them. What we got for what we paid is unbelievable.” Also, they all lasted well into the next few days after the wedding, and played a huge part in the overall look and feel of the whole beautiful day. I would recommend Beth and her creative mind to ANYONE.

One of the most important part of our wedding was of course the floral arrangements. Sylvia's Flowers in Arlington Hts did a fabulous job, 5 stars all the way. Throughout the evening my husband and I received so many compliments on our table centerpieces, and our bouquets. Our centerpieces were unique and bright, large 3 ft tall bullet vases filled with green apples, and a wonderful arrangement of calla lillies on top! I will never forget how the room took my breath away the first time I peeked in, it's a memory my husband and I will have forever. Not only were the all the flowers fresh and beautiful, one of the most important parts is being punctual with planning a wedding. Our bouquets arrived early, our church was decorated perfectly, and our ballroom was complete hours before we arrived. With Sylvia's you get a local personal touch, a staff that is willing to help no matter what, and of course a day of bliss you'll never forget! Thank you Sylvia's for making our day so special!
Sincerely,
Michelle & Rick Piek

I was so happy with the flowers for our wedding. The centerpieces were beautiful!! They were so helpful with giving me ideas and incorporating what I wanted for the wedding.

I thought that everything looked GREAT! It was worth every penny. Although the only thing that I was disappointed in was my bouquet. It was much smaller than my bridesmaids. I thought that they would at least accommodated that much. Other than that, Rich, did a beautiful job bringing our vision to life!

When I first met with Rich at Sylvia's I was very excited. He listened to what I had envisioned then also offered his professional opinion. He seemed very confident and talented. When the flowers arrived, they were absolutely beautiful but I was a little disappointed for one reason: I specifically told him I wanted hot pink flowers, he suggested addiding a HINT of orange to make them really pop so I agreed. When the flowers came they were pink, orange, and lime green...not at all what I envisioned. Still beautiful none the less but I feel like he took what I had said and did what he thought would be nice, not what I wanted. The mens were also Orange so I was not too happy about that. I will be calling them this week to complain...bottom line..if your looking for someone to be artistic and surprise you then Sylvia's is the place for you but if you are a bride and have specific wants and needs you may want to look elsewhere.

My wedding has not happened yet, but I have decided to go with Sylvia's Flowers. I went to 3 florists in the area and after my appointments I noticed that Sylvia's wedding consultation was the most elborate/informative. One of the other places did a really quick run through(wrote a scribbly) write up of what I wanted and the other place didnt really write anything down and just pointed at pictures. Sylvia's sat down with us for about one hour and went down the list detail by detail of what we need and how it would look. Then we received a neat write up that broke each item down with price and explanation of look. They seem very organized which makes me feel like I can trust them on the day of the wedding. I also have been driving by their shop since a little kid. They are still in business so they must be doing something right! I will review the flowers after my wedding day!

Sylvia's Flowers was an absolutely wonderful vendor to work with for my wedding. The florist we worked with was Beth, and I would definitely recommend her to brides trying to find the perfect florist. She was friendly, down-to-earth and paid meticulous attention to detail. Out of all the details at my wedding, we got the most compliments on the floral arrangements. I have a friend who is getting married next April; she has incredibly picky "champagne tastes," and she said she wished she hadn't already booked her florist because she would've definitely chosen Sylvia's after seeing our arrangements. My dj, who has worked at lavish wedding venues in Chicago, such as the Field Museum and Grand Union Station, said that our centerpieces were honestly the best she had ever seen. Our wedding had a black-and-white Old Hollywood theme, and Beth came up with so many ways to illustrate that theme through the flowers. During the planning process, she had so many wonderful ideas to make our wedding unique and was willing to work within our budget. Her ideas were so good that I even started asking her for ideas on other elements of the wedding. In short, Sylvia's Flowers went completely above and beyond my expectations! If you want to see pictures of my floral arrangements, they are on my blog, www.almostlikeaudrey.blogspot.com (scroll all the way to the bottom).

Sylvia's Flowers has an incredibly talented and creative staff. They worked with us to develop a concept, explore options, refine the budget, and handle every detail. Top quality flowers, exquisite design, and creative presentation--guests commented on the ceremony decorations, dramatic table centerpieces, and bouquets. I highly recommend Sylvia's Flowers for your wedding or special event!

Great place for flowers. I am getting supplemental flowers from Sylvia's for my cake table. They have been great about making sure that I am happy with the flowers. I was offered a lot of suggestions of options.

I worked with Jean and Judy to design my flowers. Initially, I had only a very vague idea of my “look”, they pulled fresh flowers from the refrigerator and made mock up bouquets. Judy also helped me make some last minute changes over the phone. On the day of the wedding, everything arrived to the correct locations and the flowers were fresh and beautiful. Everything stood up to the July heat, my husband’s calla lily even looked great the next day. They could improve their service by responding to emails although they were always excellent over the phone.

I LOVED working with them and their prices were so reasonable.
They were the only florist I found that showed me examples of what things would look like when I was starting the process, and let me know different price options.
I was called about a week before the wedding to schedule a follow up visit (when I was chasing down most others!).
The flowers were all delivered to the correct places on time (in fact, they were EARLY!) and were so fresh that dew was still on some of the petals!
They bouquets all held up through out the day, the corsages and the boutonnieres all were very sturdy and fresh as well.
I got many compliments on how pretty they all looked and I was quite happy.
I was a tad bit disappointed in how small they were- but looking back on my notes, that is what I described (so when you are talking to your vendors- BE SPECIFIC) so that was my fault.
I would recommend them highly.
