Reviews for Ballroom Dance Chicago

We loved the dance lessons that we took with Szewai. At first we were a little bit nervous, having to show our lack of skills in front of someone else, but she put us right at ease. She helped us pick the song that we would dance best to, and worked within our level to teach us the steps. Only once we were comfortable with a certain series of steps would she move on to another series of steps – making the dance more exciting. What made lessons with her so great was the way she provided feedback. Never did we feel silly or ashamed – Szewai has a talent for providing feedback in a non-accusatory way – almost as if she just wants to try something new. I think this is important when dealing with men ☺
At the wedding our dance was a hit! We have received so many compliments on it. We did a slow dance, we learned the foxy, and she threw in some extra steps that wowed the crowd. She also helped us with our entrance and presentation. Nothing was neglected, and it made our first dance really special.

My fiance and I took 5 one-hour dance lessons from Szewai and learned a beautiful first dance routine from start to finish. Neither of us have a knack for dancing, but Szewai was extremely patient and great at building our confidence. The routine she choreographed included multiple turns that we would never have imagined being able to do before the lessons. Plus, she was so fun to work with that we loved going to our lesson each week!

Szewai was a lucky find! I happened to come across her ad on Craigslist, and I am so glad I did! Being in Tulsa myself, with my family and wedding in Chicago, Szewai was able to meet with my dad and I for 2 very helpful, life-saving crash courses in the "foxy", as she called it. We danced to "I Hope You Dance" by LeeAnn Womack and Szewai showed up to our first lesson with a plan and she executed perfectly. We were never rushed and felt like she used the two sessions perfectly. I had told her ahead of time that my dad was very rhythmically challenged and that she was in for a ride, but she never showed a lack of patience whatsoever. Her patience was abundant and this put my dad at such ease and made things much easier for me, the bride. I can't say enough great things about Szewai, she is truly a wonderfully blessed dance instructor and we highly recommend her!

I didn't want to dance, but my fiance really wanted us to have a beautiful first dance. So I agreed to take lessons. My fiance found Szewai on craigslist.org. I wasn't happy to find that we hand arranged to take lessons with a female; I thought that I would have a hard time relating to her and that she would have a difficult time communicating with me (I am decidedly macho, as my fiance criticizes). With all this said, after the first lesson with Szewai, my opinion changed. Szewai was very patient and actually took time to ask me about my "movement history" (football and track in high school; track in college; still a runner) and she related the dance movements to what I was familiar with. This made me comfortable and confident that I could learn. We took ten lessons before the wedding and ended up learning a lot. My now wife was very happy with the results of our first dance. The one thing I wish I could change is the number of lessons we took before the wedding. We unfortunately delayed until a month before the day. I would like to go back and start at least six months in advance so we could have been even better. We do plan to take more lessons with Szewai in the near future.
We had such a wonderful time learning to dance with Matthew. His energy and love for dance made attending lessons the best part of the week, and it was a great way to de-stress from a long work day. As we prepared for our first dance, Matthew helped us to perfect our moves as well as establish the confidence we needed to get through the big day.
My husband and I had the pleasure of taking lessons from Matthew to learn how to dance for our wedding. We didn’t want to do anything choreographed...we just wanted to dance together and not look silly. Matthew is a patient teacher, which we needed since neither of us knew even the basics. Matthew put us at ease by teaching at our level. We progressed enough in twelve lessons to dance without any reservations for our wedding. We danced the whole night, danced during our honeymoon and plan to keep dancing as long as we can!
We are so happy we found Szewai to help us prepare for our wedding. She made us feel comfortable from the start and we looked forward to the lessons every week. The result: we were able to dance confidently at our wedding and we got tons of compliments on how great we looked dancing together!
