If you're looking for a wedding photographer, BOOK TERRA. I'm telling you, she is the best. We booked Terra 15 months before our November 13, 2010, wedding because I just knew I wanted to hire her. We had our engagement session in May 2010. She was so comfortable to work with and was constantly thinking of cool angles and poses. Our session lasted about 3 hours or so, but it went by really fast. (Tip: bring props - it's fun and gives a cool touch to your photos.) She also posted all of the photos from our engagement shoot within 12 days (amazingly fast!). We ordered an engagement album to use as the guestbook at our wedding, so it does double duty and is worth every penny.
Our wedding photos looked absolutely beautiful, straight out of a magazine. The lighting and colors were perfect. All of our family and formal photos look nice and relaxed because Terra gives off such a nice vibe. She captured tons of our details and all of the important moments (her assistant, Michelle, got many awesome shots, too). I really felt like Terra truly captured the vibe of our wedding. I had several people, after watching the slideshow, tell me that our images felt "complete" and that she really took pictures of EVERYTHING from the beginning of the day until the end (which she did). We had about 8 "preview" pictures within 48 hours of our wedding, and received all of our wedding photos (about 1,000) just 3 weeks after our wedding. Our album was ordered only 1 month after our wedding. I was shocked at how fast we received everything!
To sum it up, Terra has a great personality, very artistic eye, great communication, and quick turn around time for your images - all of the things that you want in a wedding photographer. Her prices are also very reasonable too. We received an engagement session, 7 hours on the wedding day, an assistant photographer, engagement album, wedding album, and hi-res disc of all of our images for about $3,200. And it was totally worth it - I would absolutely recommend her to everyone!

Terra was referred to us by someone we know. We met with her and ended up talking for a couple of hours. She was a great listener and gave feedback on our questions and what we wanted out of our wedding. She did a fabulous job at our wedding and we couldn't be happier with the results of the pictures. We will definitely use her again in the future and highly recommend her.

Terra took some amazing engagement pictures for us in January 2009. They were breathtaking. Her professionalism and attitude was spot on. We even stayed at her cabin for the weekend. It was a blast. I was thrilled for her to be my photographer.
Then our relationship and her professionalism did a complete 180.
The six weeks leading up to the wedding was crazy, it is for any bride. Every lose end and final bill was being tied up and paid. I randomly emailed Terra on 9/4 to ask her a question about pricing for a friend. No response. I didn't think about it until 10/6 when I needed a timeline for our venue and other vendors. I attempted to contact Terra on 10/6 with no response. I called and emailed her every other day, then every day... no response.
I had to turn in my timeline without her input... which was scary considering I didn't know how much of our time Terra needed to get our requested pictures in.
I finally heard from her late afternoon 10/14... after leaving her a voicemail and email stating that I didn't know if she was still living, breathing, working and was going to have to book someone else that evening. I had an appointment set up to book another photographer that night. I was mortified that I had to come up with another $3 - $4k at the last minute and wasn't sure I'd ever see Terra or my money...
Keep in mind my wedding was 10/16. So about 48 hours before my wedding she called to cover my timeline and let me know that she still existed. The first thing she said to me "You're freaking out on me?!?" Yes, I am. Her lack of professionalism was apparent there, no sincere apology.
I've since found out that I'm not the only bride that happened to... luckily I padded my timeline enough.
Terra has a lot of excuses. Some are valid, but after you hear so many you think "my boss would have fired me if I told him or clients that excuse for not getting my work done".
On my wedding day, Terra and her assistant showed up. They looked professional and everyone was willing to be nice to them to get through the day. I was still a bit off put by recent events but I wanted my wedding to be happy and to get some quality work out of Terra since that is what I paid for.
Instead of complaining to my mom or my bridal party, Terra approached me a few minutes before the ceremony to complain about my videographer and quoting to me that her contract states that she is to be the main shooter and the videographer is messing up her shots. I told her to handle it but was upset that a dramatic situation was brought to me shortly before walking down the aisle.
Terra and her assistant disappeared a few times.
I'm missing the recessional of the ceremony. After my husband and I walked back down there are one or two pictures of my bridal party walking back... missing several members of the party.
A group photo of all our guests was taken that I never asked for... even though she kept saying we don't have time for other shots.
At one point she told me to hurry up while my bridesmaid was bustling my dress so I had to remind her that she hadn't taken any pictures of the groom by himself and to do that while we were finishing. RUDE.
I have pictures of her and the assistant in my photobooth. Okay.
I do have a handful of creative shots from the day that I'm happy with but my ceremony pictures are taken at weird angles from the sides with lots of guests heads in them. My guests have given me more touching, well framed pictures than the ones I have from Terra.
She missed the long dip at the end of our first dance even though we had two shooters. I know they can't get everything but I heard multiple accounts that the second shooter was more friendly than professional and not even taking pictures.
I was hoping that my frustration with Terra's lack of professionalism would be offset by gorgeous pictures... but it was not.
I did receive my pictures as told. Only 10 weeks after the wedding vs. the 4 - 5 month wait other clients of hers were dealing with.
The last straw was being quoted a fee for extra spreads for the album on 12/3 then on 1/1 being quoted a price 4 times the price quoted a month earlier. I sent a response email the same day... today is about 17 days later with no response. She did send me an email saying she would get back to me in a few days but did not address my concerns.
I opted not to upgrade my album due to not wanting to give her any more money when I already feel like I've been duped.
Vendor response to review
I am very sorry that there was any mis-communication on the day of Ruthie's wedding. At the time of Ruthie's wedding my mother was going through chemo, and was undergoing surgery as well. I had a full calendar of weddings, and although it was my hope that my clients would not be affected in any way by my personal life, I'm sorry to say that it did affect my response time. I instruct all of my assistants and second shooters to keep in mind that a wedding day is a beautiful happy day, and that should be reflected in all that we do. To that end my main goal (other than taking amazing pictures) is to be a center of calm for the bride, and yet, at the same time, to keep in mind the timeline for the days events so that we proceed on schedule. If we ever get too behind I will let the bride know, and if it's not possible to catch up I always say, 'the wedding can't start without the bride, so no worries!'. I did attempt to speak with Ruthie to clear up any misunderstandings from the day of the wedding, and in addition to apologize for anything that may have occurred that was inappropriate. For example, the group image she mentions was actually announced by their officiant by mistake. Immediately after my taking the portrait he apologized to me for the mix up as he had realized right after announcing it that she had not requested it. She had not let me know many of the things she lists in this review, and from her initial emails and comments on her pictures, I had the impression that she was very happy with the service that I had performed. When this review was posted I contacted her to ask that we speak to go over her concerns, and I'm sad to say that she declined.
I do wish I had been able to speak to Ruthie, as we spent a lovely time together at my cabin in Lake Tahoe when taking her engagement images, and always had a very friendly working relationship. I do not want to go into too many details, as this is a public forum, but I would invite anyone to take a look at her engagement and wedding images, as they are truly lovely and very representative of my work.

Terra is absolutely fabulous. She photographed our wedding in May and the we just LOVE our photos. She captured our day so well -- all the emotions. Just looking at the photos she took makes me so happy and brings me back to that oh-so-special day. We've gotten a lot of compliments about them from our friends and family.
Terra's rates are also really reasonable. She's very flexible and would customize her packages for you.
Finally, she was great to work with throughout the year in preparation for the wedding. And so laid back at the actual wedding.
Again, Terra is awesome!

Terra is a wonderful photographer. She really takes excellent, easy, relaxed, casual photographs. I love her style. It is very natural and beautiful. She has a great eye for great backgrounds, and she knows how to turn any shot amazing. She knows how to make you relax, and the photo shoots are enjoyable. She's laid-back and relaxed herself, which is a godsend on the day of. A great deal, too! Her biggest package (which I got) had an engagement session and TWO photographers for 10 hours at my wedding. One caveat: when she's busy, things can get a bit slow.
I heartily recommend Terra. Check out her website; her photos are gorgeous.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Terra is a hidden gem among wedding photographers! She has a great personality and an amazing knack for putting even the most camera-shy people at ease. She is wonderful to work with and very talented!! And on top of it all, her rates for wedding packages are very inexpensive for the amazing quality of the photos! Check out her portfolio on her website, you won't be disappointed!
We've only had our engagement session with Terra, so far, but the photos were so fantastic that now I CAN'T WAIT to see what she does with our wedding photos!!
Terra photographed our Labor Day weekend wedding and she did a mini shoot a week before so that my husband would hopefully be a little more comfortable in front of the camera on the day of the wedding.
1) Our photos came out great - the lighting and the colors were beautiful. Also, Terra scoped out the Presidio to find us a couple camera worthy sites which were unique and which I never would have thought of on my own.
2) Terra's rates for a wedding are also very reasonable, especially given the high quality of the images we received.
3) Most importantly for us though, was the fact that Terra was so easy to work with. She is very responsive by phone and by email - I had tons of questions for her, which she very patiently answered and in great detail. Secondly, Terra worked with us to create a package that we were comfortable with given scheduling and what we wanted to take away from the day. Finally, my husband HATES posing for photos. He was pretty impatient about that portion of the day. He was also super opposed to any photos that involved anything even the slightest bit "cheesy". Terra was super understanding about it and worked with him in a way that made him comfortable. She chose poses he could stand and moved very quickly through all the posed shots without skimping on quality or missing any of the important ones that we wanted.
We're very happy we chose to work with Terra. Weddings are stressful times...it's just so much easier when you find reliable and talented people.
Terra was warm and eager from our very first meeting. She made me feel extremely comfortable and happy to work with her. She took awesome pictures, and there's over 1,100 to choose from. She definitely captured the emotions of my wedding day, pictures that i will cherish forever!
Terra did an amazing job photographing our wedding. Alex and I were so happy with the beautiful artistic photos she took. She was very professional and not obtrusive and an all around sweet heart. She has a wonderful eye for detail which allowed me to see many things I would have missed on my wedding day!
Terra was an amazing photographer and artist. She was very patient and personable. The pictures were beautiful. She really balanced the artsy and traditional aspects that we wanted. Even though I generally hate pictures of myself, I felt like our pictures came out just as beautiful as the photos in her website.
