Reviews for The Allan House
GUEST

We just had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Allan House this October (2011) and it was absolutely perfect. Natalie and the entire staff was extremely helpful from beginning preparation to the wedding completion. Our guests were blown away by the elegance and comfort that they felt while enjoying a wedding, in the city. If you live in Austin, or plan to wed in Austin, then the Allan House is one of the best and a must see. Thanks again for everything - it was a perfect weekend!

I highly recommend having an event at The Allan House. The trees and lighting outside are so beautiful alone, that extra flowers and decorations are not needed. The work staff is very professional and knowledgeable. I am so glad that we had our wedding here.

The moment we saw The Allan House we just knew it was right. Working with Whitney and then Natalie were both delightful. The transition between the two was seamless and we couldn't have been happier with the responsiveness and communication. They were so helpful and accommodating with everything. I don't think much can beat having your wedding at such a gorgeous setting, yet still in downtown Austin. Everyone was in awe. It was absolutely perfect!

This venue is AMAZING. It's a beautiful, old historic home with a coziness that just can't be described. We were married in the courtyard under the trees with the breeze blowing all around us. There are twinkle lights around the trees and white lanterns hanging from the trees, very romantic. We got so many compliments on how lovely the venue was. You must check it out!! The staff was professional and prompt in responding to questions.

The Allan House was the ideal venue for my husband and me, however, I could see how it might not be for other brides who want to be less involved in the details of their reception. The venue is beautiful and is essentially a blank slate, which was great, because I wanted to design the decor. My one slight criticism is that The Allan House is really intimately tied to their preferred vendor list and in one particular case, was a source of frustration. We were the first spring wedding without the "winter tent", but the weather was still chilly in Austin. We were at the mercy of Marquee Rentals, the owners of the tent, who are expensive and a bit snippy over e-mail. They wanted to charge us $1K NOT to take their tent down, another $250 to replace the walls of the tent they had removed and $500 to take down the tent after our Saturday night wedding, since there was a Sunday wedding at Allan House. It left a bad taste in our mouth. We made the decision to forego the tent and pray for sunshine and we got really lucky. We saved $1750 and we had really beautiful weather. On the other hand, the preferred vendor list included our awesome DJ and our bartending service, who was completely buttoned up and true professionals.I would highly recommend The Allan House to any bride that wants a beautiful, simple venue (with a great downtown location) and the ability to put her own touches on it.

I highly recommend the Allan House to any couple looking for the feel of an outdoor wedding with the convenience of being in the heart of the city. It was the ideal compromise for our reception. I wanted a warm, elegant, yet unpretentious outdoor site. My husband didn't want our guests to have a long drive back to their hotel and wanted them to have the option of catching a cab.The beautiful Victorian style home is extremely well maintained with a beautiful courtyard space. Ours was a winter wedding (January 29) with a 120 guests. It was the perfect sized space; the courtyard easily fit enought tables and chairs for all of our guests while stilling leaving room for a large dance floor. Plus as it was winter the price included a custom heated tent. I do agree with my fellow reviewer that for the rental price Allan House should have included rental of an adjacent parking lot (which we had to do ourselves, but they did provide information to facilitate the process). Nevertheless it was a great deal for a 7hr block of time, which I found to be much longer than many comparable reception sites.Lastly, the staff at the Allan House was exceptional. Whitney was very prompt to respond to phone calls and emails. She made sure I didn't forget any details as I was considering the space and flow within it. As there were no other events that weekend, they were flexible with us on delivery times so that we wouldn't be charged higher fees. And while we went with almost all recommended vendors (their list of suggestions was great by the way), when we wanted Salt Lick catering they were very accomodating and helpful. We loved having our reception at the Allan House and we think you will too!

the Allan House was wonderful. It fit perfectly with the romantic vintage them I wanted for my wedding, and Whitney and the staff at the Allan House were so accommodating and helpful all throughout the wedding planning process. They went above and beyond with advice and helpful tips and vendor suggestions. Plus, the historical home is a beautiful oasis right here in the heart of Downtown Austin, so your guests can easily get back to their hotels are carry the party to 6th street!

Gorgeous venue, perfect for the garden party vibe we were going through. Whitney and her crew could not have been more professional, helpful and kind. I had lots of compliments on the space and everything just worked perfectly. They have a nice bridal suite and good space for presents, cake, bars, catering, dancing... very intimate and beautiful space.

The most absolute perfect place for a wedding reception. Our whole theme was organic, and this place fit the bill perfectly. It was so natural and elegant. Whitney is so helpful, and it was worth every penny in the end. You must look into the Allan House if you are considering getting married in Austin.

I had my wedding here on 02/20/2010. Let me just say- I LOVED everything about The Allan House. Whitney was an amazing help. From the time we first came to visit to after the wedding. I emailed her with several questions and she always responded promptly and was so understanding. The house was beautiful. The ambiance was just what I wanted for our evening sophisticated yet simple wedding with a bit of southern flair. The courtyard is beautiful with the twinkle lights around- so romantic. Whitney was there the day of the wedding and contributed to how smoothly everything ran. I liked that I wasn't tied down to a certain caterer, florist or bakery- I could choose whomever I wanted. I was given a list of suggested vendors but was free to choose from that list or anywhere else. We had about 150 people and I was worried it might be tight but it was perfect!! I HIGHLY suggest checking this place out- plus the location is great. Downtown-perfect for out of towners.

We cannot Thank the Allan House enough for saving us! We planned our wedding in about 3 months because of a horrible misunderstanding with our previous venue, leaving us in a lurch. I was panicked and unsure of how to begin a new search for a wedding site and the Allan House made it so very easy! They invited us to an open house, which happened to be that evening, where we could see what the venue might look like, it was magical! The staff is more than just friendly, they make you feel like they are actually your friends and look out for your every need! They listen to your ideas and helped to make them happen! They offer a gorgeous clear heated tent during some of the winter months (our wedding was Dec. 18) so that you are still able to dance in the moonlights, and tables and chairs are included (which in this economy was a huge bonus)! The venue is absolutely beautiful with its classic elegance, yet they embrace the natural beauty of the property! My husband was born and raised in Nashville, TN and I was born in San Antonio, it was the perfect match for our styles! They added extra lighting in the tent and the twinkle lights on the trees made such a romantic setting. They know what they are doing, they help you know what to expect, they know how to help, and most importantly they know how to put you at ease during such a busy planning period!

I was an out of town bride looking for a venue to host the ceremony and reception in one unique place. Allan House fit the bill perfectly. It is larger enough for all to be comfortable, charming, accomodating and affordable. Whitney is great to work with and she helped make our big day special. We had planned on a outdoor wedding, but when rain struck and continued the entire evening the Allan House was flexible and accomodating. It's enough to stress about the rain as a bride, helps a lot to have a venue and manager that you can count on. If you are seeking a unique and charming venue, check out the Allan House. All of guests fell in love with it.

I know there are not a lot of reviews out there for the Allan House, and I admit, I searched desperately for them since we planned our wedding from out-of-state. I can tell you all honestly, the Allan House was the perfect venue for our wedding. We had only visited the venue twice before the big day, so we were just as impressed as our guests at how beautiful everything looked! The ceremony was held in the last few hours of October daylight, and the sun shone beautifully through the tree branches. At night, the lights in the trees added such a nice atmosphere to the reception. Our 75 guests had plenty of room to celebrate, between the outdoor area, the porches, and the charming interior. We will be forever grateful for the courteous and accommodating staff, and for their help making our wedding absolutely perfect!

We'll never be able to thank you enough for hosting our wedding. The Allan House was perfect! We were able to have a truly intimate and personal day under the backdrop of nearly breathtaking natural beauty. The lighting at sunset was amazing. Our guests couldn't say enough. The staff were impeccible, prompt, and friendly through the entire planning process and ready to help our personally chosen vendors. Without a doubt we achieved our "dream wedding" and will be forever grateful!

I didn't really feel like they had much interest in me at all. I guess they are a popular enough spot so that they don't really need to seek out clients. It was pretty from what I saw. I had emailed the event coordinator and she promptly sent me information, however when I emailed her to set up a time to come see the facility, she failed to tell me that the date I was interested had already been booked, also she told me to come to the "open house" instead of making an appointment, and when I got there, she had left the open house 45 minutes early... It was just frusterating because I'm living an hour away from where the wedding will be so I really would have appreciated her letting me know that my date was taken, or at least be there when you told me that you would be... I guess I should have been booking earlier, oh well I found a great place where I feel like they are truly interested in my day instead of just my wallet.

We're sorry you had a bad experience with The Allan House event coordinator last year. We are now under new management. We can assure you we value our prospective clients' time and want to make sure they find the best venue to fit their needs. Thank you for your feedback and congratulations! We are sure your wedding will be beautiful.

The Allan House is a beautiful wedding venue! The courtyard is decorated with white lights and white japanese lanterns, so all we needed to add were candles and flowers to make it the perfect place for our wedding! My only complaint was that for the money, I didn't expect to have to rent a parking lot, but rent a parking lot, I did.
"My nephew and his wife were married in the garden on April 13th and it was the most beautiful event I have ever attended. The flow was great inside or outdoors with the band, tables, and lovely decorations. Justin and Marie picked a great spot to share their vows w/family and friends. The slide show in the LBJ room was also and neat idea!"
"The Allan House was the perfect place for our wedding! The atmosphere was open, friendly, welcoming to all of our guests, and the grounds offered spectacular backdrops for our pictures. The indoor space itself was perfect for our small, intimate wedding, and conveyed the feeling of elegance and home that I wanted. The staff went above and beyond to help us in all aspects of arranging our wedding, from suggesting vendors to meeting the flowers at the site when I was held up to making sure the last chair was in place. I didn't worry about anything, because The Allan House staff were consummate professionals, especially since this was an out of town wedding for us. Getting married at the Allan House made my wedding special, and uniquely mine."
"The Allan House was the perfect setting for what was truly the most amazing day of my life. Andrew and I looked at wedding venues for what seemed like forever. Nothing seemed quite right... Nothing fit the spirit of our relationship or the style we pictured. When I first walked into The Allan House, I knew I'd found the place for us. Its classic simplicity fit us just right. We loved the hardwood floors and all of the period features that added so much character to the house. It wasn't full of old, stuffy furniture and I could easily picture a wedding occurring there. The huge oak trees and the beautiful courtyard were exactly what I'd imagined. Plus, I loved the fact that it was downtown, close to everything. Looking at pictures now, reliving those few hours, I am so happy I found The Allan House. I know my wedding would not have been the one of my dreams had it been anywhere else. It was just too perfect!"
"The Allan House was the perfect venue for our wedding. On our wedding day the beautiful courtyard was filled with the scent of the flowers that had just begun blooming the week before. It was a picture perfect day with gorgeous weather, and our ceremony, lit by the setting sun, was like a fairy tale. The grounds and the house gave our ceremony and reception the feel of being married at the home of a dear friend. It was like coming home. As the sun set; the twinkle lights and the lanterns in the trees created a wonderful ambiance for dinner and dancing. We couldn't have asked for anything better."
What a fun venue with lots of character. This is a place we love to go! Give us a call. Flora Fetish

I love the Allan House! They have the most picture perfect backdrops for your wedding day. From the gorgeous white veranda columns, to the lush & twinkle lit patio, this location also has an intimacy that is quite striking. Not to mention you can't beat a downtown location - super convenient for all your guests!
I have attended many events at the Allan House and worked with their team on the Coursey~Fraizer wedding. Their beautiful historic venue is easy to locate, and their courtyard makes the perfect backdrop for photos.
