Fantastic !!! We just had our daughters wedding at the Henry Ford Museum. I had not seen or heard the band perform prior to the wedding, so, was just a little concerned about the music because I do believe that music will make or break an event. WHAT A GREAT BAND ! They had the bridesmaids "performing" to Stop in the Name of Love, the musicians interacted with the guests on the dance floor, and the dance floor was constantly full. It was unbelieveable. Many comments from our guests about the great band. This is money well spent if you want to have a memorable event.

The DRB is AWESOME. They really know how to get the party started and keep it going. From the cocktail hour to introductions, to the dance floor they are great. Our wedding was over 6 months ago and guests still ask about the band and mention how fantastic they were! Can't wait to catch them again around town!

The Dan Rafferty Band is AWESOME! The photographer (tres jolie photography) that endorses this band is actually referring to our wedding. Once the temperature dropped late into the evening it was freezing! The band kept it alive though. They never stopped singing which kept people dancing (and warm)! It was amazing to see people having such a great time when it was so cold that you could see your breath. We're still getting phone calls from friends and family telling us how great this band is.
Derek was awesome to work with. He made sure that every detail was taken care of and made sure that we had nothing to worry about. He is also a fantastic emcee. Energetic and knows how to get the crowd going.
Stop looking around at other bands, you're just going to keep coming back to them. Trust me.. they're fantastic.

Worked with the band at Weller's Inn...loved them! It was literally 30 degrees out (outside reception) and they were able to keep the guests dancing and involved!!!! I hope to work with them more this year. They are the BEST!

The real question is, who are we NOT?
We are NOT a cheesy, corny band that has defined the term “wedding band” for so long. We are a young, dynamic, hip 8-piece group. We are in-touch with today’s styles, including hip-hop, R&B, top 40 and modern rock. We absolutely KICK out the funk and disco from the 70’s and 80’s. We JAM the Motown classics everyone loves so much. And we bring the “cool” back to big band and swing!
We are NOT a group of “hired-gun” musicians with no connection or passion for your event. You will never be stuck wondering the day before your event what to expect from The DRB. We will become friends and interact on a first name basis because it is very important for us to know what exactly it is you’re looking for, even if you’re not exactly sure. We’ll sit down face to face and walk through your whole event together. You have NO WORRIES with us. That’s how we roll baby!
The Dan Rafferty Band, proudly calling Detroit home, offers a completely new way of providing live music entertainment for weddings, corporate functions, private parties, bars/clubs, casinos, bar & bat mitzvahs or any other type of event where dynamic live entertainment is needed. And while we’re based here in the Motorcity, we’ll travel wherever you need us. Chicago, Traverse City, Cleveland, Hawaii. Hey, were here for YOU, people! We often travel to Grand Rapids, Bay Harbor, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Toledo, and many more locations. We’re always looking for an opportunity to play someplace new!
We’ve shared the stage with Kid Rock, and we’ve opened for such bands as Foreigner, Flock of Seagulls and Loverboy. While we play weddings and corporate events every weekend, we don’t consider ourselves a wedding band. We’re passionate about our show, and about getting to know our clients personally. Our front vocalists are all young stylish entertainers who love today’s top 40 and hip hop dance music, and take great pride in performing these songs with the same energy and authenticity as the original artists!

FAQ for The Dan Rafferty Band
ABSOLUTELY! We DO NOT charge to learn new songs. We truly believe our clients deserve a unique experience, which includes songs of their choosing for their special dances and events. We will learn new songs as needed to accommodate you.
Can the band customize our Grand Intro?
YES! In fact, we expect each grand introduction to be unique and different from the last. When we get together for your pre-event planning meeting, we'll discuss an intro that is completely tailored to you and what you want to make sure it is remarkable and memorable.
How do you handle the band breaks?
All of our band packages include a LIVE DJ who will take requests, interact with the crowd, and keep the party going until the band gets back on stage. We NEVER play pre-programmed music and leave the stage area.
Will the band change out members for my event?
NO NO NO!! The band you see in the videos and pics on our site, which is the same band you will see when you check us out live, is the SAME BAND you will have at your event. We started this band to be uniquely different from the "agency" bands. Those that book the event, then figure out who is available and substitute members regularly. We are friends, we hang out and part together and of course develop our show together, and it is important for us to be a tight-knit group for every event. In the rare occasion that an emergency situation arises where a band member is unavailable (which really is RARE), we have a dedicated set of backups for each musician that are ready to step in and put out the same high quality experience you expect to have.
Selecting Entertainment
We encourage our prospective clients to check out the other entertainers in town to make an informed decision for their big day. Be sure to ask about the entire reception. If the event goes from 6pm - 12am (the most common timeframe), what time does the band actually play from? Most likely they play from 8pm - 12am. In that case, what happens from 6pm - 8pm? Probably nothing, unless you hire additional entertainers driving your cost up. We include 6 full hours in our package, which includes a Jazz Group for cocktail hour and a live DJ for dinner and band breaks. That way, from the moment the doors open until the second the lights come up at the end of the night, we have you covered with great entertainment.
Think about the experience you want!
Having live entertainment, especially in today's environment, does not mean you must settle for the cliché "wedding band". If you had a DJ, he/she could play EVERY song you want to hear, including all of today's current hits. Most bands cannot do this, or if they say they can, you will want to see them performing these songs. Having the ability to play the REAL dance music you want, today's top hits from the Top 40, Hip Hop, Modern Rock, etc genre's is very important!! And even more so, not looking "cheesy" when performed. Our front line is composed of a young, hip, trendy group of entertainers who can pull off not only the old-school Motown, disco, funk, etc, but also EVERYTHING from today including Kanye, Beyoncé, Ne-Yo, Black Eyed Peas, etc etc. We love this music, and are very passionate about our ability to play them in a way you will truly enjoy!!
What exactly will you be charged for?
Does the entertainer you're considering have an all-inclusive package? Or do they charge for extras? We are seeing more and more companies charge for things like Lights, Learning Songs, and even for extra Meetings!! We really don't understand this philosophy, as we believe the cost on the contract for the event should cover any of the items mentioned above. There should be a fair cost negotiated for the services of the entertainer you choose, and you shouldn't have to worry about being "nickel-and-dimed" leading up to your event. Our package cost includes EVERYTHING for our services. The only time you will ever see our contract price change is if you decide to change the scope of the event (more hours, more services, etc). Otherwise, you are covered!!!
Be weary of "TV Studio" promo videos!
We love the power of promo videos and pictures. Seriously, we LOVE having them on our site! But, most local-Detroit band "promo videos" are in some studio somewhere. They all look like the same place. You know, that dark studio with the stage and lights all set up but no crowd? You've seen those videos, haven't you?!? We can't stand those things. They SCREAM "cheesy"!!! We shoot our videos live at events. The sound may not be quite as good as it is coming from the HD camera we use, but you absolutely get a great sense of our performance and how we interact with the crowd. If you want premium quality sound, check out our audio-only samples. We record these in our dRaff recording studio. We customize the arrangements of almost all of our songs, and recording them in our studio not only gives us great quality audio for you to hear, but this is where we refine our arrangements, write and practice our harmonies, and fine-tune all the songs you will hear on stage.
